Unfortunately, service was lacking at this Sonus Hearing in Pasadena. I had previous experience with Sonus Hearing in Whittier as well as Whittier Hearing Center so I can vouch my experience was a bit unsatisfying in Pasadena. When you receive your new hearing aids, usually the audiologists would run additional test and make adjustments. However, this office does not. You end up going through the basic usage of the hearing aids, the billing paperworks, warranty information and leave the office without any adjustments. Next thing I did was compare the sound of the new and old hearing aids to the music in the parking lot. Found out the new ones were substantially at a lower volume. Called and walked back into the office to get an adjustment. However, you don't get to go inside and have to wait in the lobby while the technician makes adjustments. As a result of the adjustment, the left hearing aid had an annoying sound feedback 90% of the time. There was a 75 day warranty period to return for a prompt refund (Song And Beverly Consumer Warranty Act). Ended up returning the hearing aids the following day. It's been over a week and still no refund from Sonus. Unfortunately, needed to open a chargeback and would not recommend this particular Sonus. Location wasn't any better; paid parking in the parking structure or side of the street. read more

This review is NOT about the Pasadena Office. I lost a hearing aid paid $500 on 8/25/25 for a replacement. I was told it typically take around 3-5 days for a replacement. Today is 9/11/25 and I still don't have them. I was told by the Pasadena office (on Del Mar) that the latest ate is Tuesday, 9/16. They were unable to find any reason for the delay. First available appointment three weeks out. Left work early and drive across DTLA to make my appointment on time only to find out they recently moved locations. Simply pathetic. Didn't even have the exam. I arrived the requested 10 minutes early, filled out the forms to the sound of the unmasked, noticeably sick and coughing receptionist, and proceeded to wait in the dark, closet sized waiting room for more than a half hour. I asked the receptionist if things were running kind of late at which time she told me the doctor wasn't even there yet and she didn't even know when she would be arriving - she was stuck in traffic. Clearly the receptionist should have made that clear to me. Because I didn't have an entire day to sit and wait and get sick, I left. And here's one more reason to never go to this place... I just called back, and the receptionist lied and lied. I asked if the doctor had ever arrived. She said no, she called in sick. While I was still in the office, she told me the doctor was stuck in traffic. I asked why she hadn't informed me when I arrived that the doctor was not there and there would be a wait and she had the nerved to tell me that she did inform me. Simply pathetic. read more

I called to make an appointment for a hearing exam. My insurance requires that I be examined by a licensed audiologist, and this company is in my network. I have a PPO that does not require a referral or authorization for services. Nonetheless, when I called to make an appointment the receptionist told me she would have to call my doctor for a referral and my insurance company for authorization before she could schedule me. I gave it a few days and called to find out if an appointment could be scheduled. I reiterated that I had a PPO that did not require pre-authorization or a referral, at which point she stated "well, I will have to talk to our business manager about how to handle this." Making a simple appointment should not be such an arduous process. I decided to go elsewhere and had an appointment in 5 minutes. read more

I was pleased with Sally and the report she prepared. The exam was completed quickly and in a friendly manner. I did get the feeling they were scheduling people too close together. I was soon to find out why. When the exam was done I was taken into another room to discuss the results. After a few minutes I got the feeling that I was about to get hussled and I was right. I'm not sure of the name of the lady that did the post exam meeting. I did not find her eloquent nor well informed. She started to go on about a "BIG EVENT" coming in a couple of weeks. She went on and on about the BIG EVENT and I asked her what it was. She explained it took place there at their site and that I would be able to try out different products. Then more big event sales pitch and they only have room for a few more persons to sign up to get the promotional discounts. 15 min later I am getting anxious and looking at the door. Finally I asked her what they were offering, whether I was being obligated to sit there and buy something, and what are the products that they sell. You guessed right it's for hearing aids ranging $5000 to 15,000 dollars. I asked again where is this taking place. Every time it was the same thing. She would say "here". Then I asked if she meant here in the building or outside in the parking lot. I imagined tents with different companies demonstrating hearing aids, cotton tips, or telephones for loss of hearing, balloons and stuff for the kids etc. I asked again where and again she said here. Then I asked do you mean here in this office? She said yes here in this office. Needless to say you can imagine the rest. If you go there expect to be placed in an office for a BIG EVENT. Katherine, Pauline, Sally and Leslie have all made my journey with hearing issues less stressful! Katherine answered the day I called to make an appointment. She had a calm and patient manner, thankfully. I appreciate that, as I have not always had people like that answer my calls. The nearest appointment was over a month a way but she put me on a cancellation list which was appreciated because I ended up getting in much sooner than expected. It was also a nice surprise to be greeted by her when I walked in on appointment day. She was answering phones for this and another office, so I wasn't expecting to see her. She was with Pauline and both greeted me warmly, got me signed in and set me up with new patient forms. The room was bright and empty which was nice and the wait time was so short I didn't even have time to fill out all my forms, but they said I could finish afterwards. I was taken to the testing room by Sally, who worked quickly but kindly. If anyone reading this has to go for a test and you are nervous because you don't know what to expect, hopefully I can set your mind at ease. I have anxiety but did rather well overall, so will be pulling for you. You will spend some time in a sound booth. It is a small space with basically a chair and some cords, but there is a window on one side, so a lot of light is coming in and you can see Sally and her office. That helped me feel less claustrophobic. You will also be wearing and headset type thing. It put some uncomfortable pressure on me but it was bearable and probably would be more so to people who are more used to headsets. It also helped that with them, I was able to communicate with her (as opposed to a test where the tech is in another room, like a CT scan). As soon as the door is closed and she is back at her desk, she will speak into the headphones. It is interesting because she can set it so she is speaking only in one ear at a time! She has a calm voice, thankfully, and will explain what she is doing before she starts that part of the test. For me it was repeating after her. She would start at normal volume, but then her voice would go lower and she still wanted me to repeat what I heard/thought I heard. Next was a series of beeps and such, she wanted me to speak up as soon as I started to hear them, even if they were very faint. The last part of the test was discerning which words I was hearing, even with intentional static going on. The whole time in the booth was probably under 20 minutes. One minor note, the booth rocks a SMALL bit, when you first get in, and when the door is opened and closed. I am sensitive to motion at times so it bothered me a bit but was mercifully short. And then one test, probably a minute or so only, where plugs were placed in each ear and I had to stay still and silent. Not sure what that did but it was only mildly uncomfortable. She found that I needed an ENT for further treatment and passed on that info to my doctor instead of me having to like I thought I would. I expected to finish my forms and leave, but amazingly, the results were already available to Pauline who went over them with me very shortly after! The news was not grand, but neither was it entirely shocking. I need a hearing aid, but the nice thing is the insurance will cover one and she helped me set that up, after telling me about another hearing aid type that was available. She tried to find the one that would be the most discreet color in case I was shy about my hearing aid showing, which I found to be thoughtful. The next day I had a few questions and Leslie was the one who answered the phone in their center that day. The Pasadena office was closed or something but she did her best to try to answer my questions and took some time trying to reach Pauline or the others, which was deeply appreciated. Like the others, she thankfully had a kind spirit. Even though Leslie was not at the Pasadena office, she along with those that were made it such a nice visit and incredibly I look forward to seeing them again when I go back for my hearing aid at some point very soon! My one issue: the bathroom. It is great that one is available, when so many places do not offer that, especially these days. It is not in the office itself, but just down the hall and only accessible with a key the office has. While it was nicely cleaned that day/time, it is very cramped, has nowhere to hang a purse or such and definitely not handicap accessible, so I wanted to provide a heads up. read more

My husband had a appointment today Jan 29,2021 @10:00 am. We drove in the rain from Orange County to Pasadena. We made it in record time. We arrived at 9:59 am As soon as we opened the door Sally Walsh,MA,CCC_A Dispensing Audiologist Starts yelling "HURRY HURRY" "I HAVE MY 10:30am patient here" . She takes my husband in the back room closes the door and miss Sally starts Yelling at my husband to hurry up. She drops the instruments on the floor. She left them on the floor she is steppingon them. My husband being a nurse asked are you going to pick those up. Sally says oh yes. She starts picking them up without gloves. Sally sticks the ear light with the plastic cover over it to check his ear, then she goes to the next ear but she left the plastic cover in his ear. He told her, you left it in my ear. Sally got really mad and told him you can go wait in the waiting room until I'm done with my 10:30am patient .. My husband says that's not fair why are you doing this?? She had know answers .I feel like Sally treated my husband rudely because he is Filipino? My husband isn't stupid he is a Nurse... We left. Thats is so unprofessional.. He decided not to finish the hearing check up because Sally was still yelling and he was afraid he wouldn't get a accurate report.. My husband left the room in a very friendly manner.. Marissa Torres at Sonus Heating Aid Professionals in Pasadena deserves a 10+ star rating. This review is long overdue. My mom was seen here over a year ago after seeing an unprofessional, unethical hearing specialist in La Cresenta who lied and overcharged and took advantage of her inability to fully understand that she was dealing with a crook. I cant remember how we came across Sonus but boy am I glad we did. Marissa was a superstar from the beginning, she took my moms hearing aids, went above and beyond call of duty, called the manufacturer, reordered the missing pair which was still under insurance and gave us all the guidance to get the pair replaced at a minimal cost, even though we initially didn't purchase the hearing aids from their office and she technically didn't have to do anything except tell us to go back to the place we bought the aids from. She was honest and transparent with all transactions and was with us each and every step during the process of getting the missing hearing aid replaced. It really is refreshing to finally get to experience true professionalism, which is becoming more rare these days. She showed care, concern and pure respect for my mom and all 3 of us who kept calling with our concerns and questions. She answered our calls, returned our calls promptly, and never turned down our request for assistance. She treated us with such kindness, something that is missing with humanity these days. My mom is trilingual and English is not her strongest language, Marissa showed patience and had no problem repeating or demonstrating things where my mom's ability to comprehend fell short. I can't say enough great things about her. She is very approachable, it shows that she truly cares through her actions and has been a pleasure to work with. Sonus is lucky to have her.
