The Italian sub on sweet bread.
    Christina H.

Five stars all day long! I came from out of town on a visit. Head West subs was a recommendation to try. Ooooooh wow it is good! The service was good. Very helpful! They have cold subs with different types of bread, they will toast it if you like, homemade soups, brownies, cookies, yes a must stop in for a taste that I almost can't describe. See for yourself, or taste it for yourself.

A ##9 Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef and Provolone

I ordered a number nine, and it was to be toasted. I received, which very much seems like a ham onion and pickle sandwich. It did have a very small amount of roast beef on a sandwich that was supposed to be ham and roast beef. It seems like this location just does not do a very good job. I have been to other locations and they are excellent however I've gotten either the wrong sandwich or a very poorly made sandwich from the Jefferson Street location multiple times.

My family of seven and I were heading on a short three day vacation to St. Louis, MO and needed a stop for lunch prior to making it to the hotel. We were told to stop here at this local favorite sandwich shop. We ordered ahead and got the food on time as we pulled into the parking lot. The ambiance of the shop is exactly what you'd want from a small sandwich place. Nothing special but also does the job! We opted for the Italian sub and the turkey sub. Both ok sweet bread. Both were stacked with meat and made well. The reason I give this place a 4/5 stars is because it's a good place. But not special. I would stop here again if I were in need of lunch or dinner but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Turkey and provolone on sweet bread! All basics + jalapeños!

Sooo I had a turkey and provolone on that delicious sweet bread with all basics and added jalapeños, what I especially enjoyed is they offer this Italian dressing that gives it a hoagie like feel! It's so hard to find hoagies! ...I went around 6pm wasn't crowded at all. They offer to toast or leave sandwiches cold and the sandwich isn't long but it's very hearty, I'm big on portions and portions were definitely filling. Their staple in beverages that distinguishes them is their sodas! The Berry Lemonade was delicious, they seem to run out of variety later in day so if you enjoy these go early... Parking is not a problem and facility was very quiet and low key if you want to grab a bite and eat in! ..I will be back I really enjoyed the sandwich! Not you typical turkey sub.

First, the negative: It is impossible for them to take a phone order correctly. I tried to do it online once, and they mixed it up. It pays to stand at the counter, look the employee in the eye, and repeat it back. On a positive note, the sandwiches are great and the bread is very fresh and tasty.

The number 8, toasted, with the basics is my go to sandwich. The sweat bread causes cravings, and the brownies are a good great on occasion.

We stopped by the store on Jefferson Street and I got a turkey and provolone for me and a pastrami and provolone for him.

She even made a point to walk around and check on each table, making sure everything was perfect--that kind of attention really stood out. I ordered the Thai pork bowl, and it was absolutely packed with flavor--perfectly balanced with a little heat, a touch of sweetness, juicy pork, and a satisfying crunch from the coleslaw. The sauces tied everything together beautifully. My wife got the chicken ranch sandwich and couldn't stop raving about it. I took a bite myself and was seriously impressed. The chicken was incredibly juicy and flavorful, the bread was outstanding, and the candied bacon took it over the top--truly next-level. This sandwich was done right. To finish things off, we tried the oatmeal cream pie cookie, and it did not disappoint. It was soft, perfectly baked, and full of rich flavor. I even had to grab a side of that candied bacon to go--it was that good. We'll definitely be back.

Get the bread - you won't need it (the bowl is huge), but they make it and grill it and it is delicious. Get a cookie to have later (I ate mine over the course of 3 days). I recommend the chocolate peanut butter. The service is friendly and efficient. Ambience is okay. It's busy and the seating is a bit uncomfortable and tight, but they did maximize the utility of the space.

Thankfully we still were able to get one cider, and they had a selection of other beers. The cider was tart and refreshing, and I really like the berry mocktail, which had ginger beer, and a mix of berries in it. As for food, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich came with a lot of heat which was great. I got the dry rub version, which is spicer than the saucy version. The horseshoe sandwich is a local favorite, which is an open faced sandwich with sliced bread topped with meat (we got the angus beef), fries, and cheese sauce. It was quite heavy and creamy because of all the sauce. Overall we enjoyed our meal and our server was very friendly, although service was on the slower side.

The building is beautiful, the location is perfect, and we thought, "Hey, maybe those bad reviews were just people having a bad day." Spoiler alert: they were not. Service started strong. We were seated right away, and they even brought coloring pages for our kids -- a nice touch that gave us false hope. Then the food arrived, and it was like watching a plot twist in a bad movie. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Pony Shoe. It came out looking like someone microwaved a bag of frozen chicken tenders and tossed them in buffalo sauce for moral support. The cheese sauce might have been homemade -- it was grainy enough to make me believe someone whisked it themselves -- but there was barely any. Also, who hides the cheese under the fries? That's the star of the show! I had to beg for more, and even then it arrived lukewarm, much like my excitement for the meal. My wife ordered the Pork Schnitzel with "spaetzle." Except it wasn't schnitzel; it was a pork cutlet that had clearly seen the inside of a freezer longer than most people's leftovers. And the "spaetzle"? Nope. Straight-up spaghetti noodles. The mushroom sauce tasted like it came straight from a can labeled Cream of Disappointment. Two of the kids got cheese pizza -- or as I like to call it, "Frozen Circle of Regret." My son's "chips" were somehow both soggy and chewy, a texture I didn't even know existed. Frying them until they're crunchy shouldn't be rocket science, but here we are. Everything was bland, flavorless, and missing any sign of seasoning. The best dish of the entire meal? My daughter's burger on her Pony Shoe -- mostly because it resembled real food. And just to add a little flair, nearly every plate was dusted with dried parsley. Because, of course, nothing says fine dining like sprinkling dried parsley on frozen food. This place has serious potential -- it's got the space, the charm, and the perfect downtown vibe. But if your secret ingredient is "frozen," no amount of parsley is going to save you.
