While visiting my son in Springfield this weekend, He asked if I had ever had a sandwich from Head West. When I said no, he said, "Mom, you have to try one, they are the best subs in Springfield. We stopped by the store on Jefferson Street and I got a turkey and provolone for me and a pastrami and provolone for him. For desert, we ordered a pint of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia. I loved the atmosphere of the place, the employees are fun, friendly and very helpful. When we got back to my son's house, I could not believe how delicious and packed with turkey and pastrami our sandwiches were. These sandwiches are awesome and the Cherry Garcia ice cream was a great follow to the sandwiches. Can't wait to have another sandwich from them. I looked up the locations, and they are opening one in Jacksonville, IL where I live. I am patiently awaiting the arrival of the Jacksonville store and will never get a sandwich anywhere else once they are open! Thank you, Son, for a great day and delicious food. read more

I am a laid back fellow and have a big heart for folks in the service industry. Head West has just never impressed (I'm a poet and don't even know it)! It appears to be a pretty simple process to order here: start at one end of counter and go to register end of the counter. The carnival of folly between those two points is often incredible verging on Kafkaesque. My sub maker is baffled by my order everytime. I order whatever number on wheat with everything. After extended explanation and false starts (often had the worker go in back for something... composure, bong hit, say hi to friends) my sub is completed and passed on to the next person confused by my presence. I know it would be difficult to write down the number of my on the sub paper but it could speed the process unless I ordered a #6 or #9. I am assuming this happened at some point in the past in their experimental phase of sub design and the mental strain was simply too great. read more

Love the subs, service could be much better... I run a call center and while I understand being busy even if you put someone on hold you must go back and let them know you are still alive... I called back because I thought we got disconnected and they didnt even say anything. Too bad since we love to support locally owned places, but there has to be a better system for one of the "best sub" places in town. I do agree the subs rock though! read more

I got the roast beef and cheddar sub and it was by far the best sandwich that I have ever had! The sweet bread takes it from a really good sandwich to an amazing one. I will definitely go back! read more

Sandwiches are delicious. We regularly get their veggie turkey (meatless) sandwich which is fabulous. I also absolutely love the BLT and sometimes get extra bacon! It's so good. Their soups are fantastic and change daily. I love that I can order & customize & pay for sandwiches online quickly and easily, then just run in to pick up the order. Staff is super friendly and helpful! There is always a mix of clientele here, too. Love this location! read more

Just spent $9 for a sub and bag of chips. Sub was made completely wrong. Last time I went to Head West, I got half a sub that was all of 3 bites. Not sure what the problem is but some time needs to be spent on bettering service at this restaurant. Customers should get what they paid for! Probably won't be returning for a while. read more

The number 8, toasted, with the basics is my go to sandwich. The sweat bread causes cravings, and the brownies are a good great on occasion.

I LOVE Head West subs, but I HATE the customer service. Been eating at Head West since they opened and have always loved their subs. Sadly, anytime I have placed an order for delivery 8 out of 10 times the person on the other line is extremely rude! They always seem like they don't have the time to be taking your order. I hope someday I can call this place an actually be treated with respect that a paying customer deserves. read more

Best sandwiches I have had in the midwest. Sweet bread is great, and the basics (which include an italian dressing and mayo, among other things) on sandwiches such as turkey, veg turkey, ham etc. are awesome. Their take on the reuben which includes pastrami instead of cornbeef is amazing. One of my two top choices in Springfield for any kind of food. read more

Food is good but not in reasonable price range. Good atmosphere, but a few of the workers have attitudes and half step sandwiches. All I ask is for money my give me what I pay for. They never get my sandwich right and told me they can't deliver to me anymore because they can never get it right. I don't feel appreciated as a customer and they are very rude as I said before. If you want OK over priced food with bad customer service that's the place for you. read more

This place is a bit over-rated. Regular old lunch meat on doughnut dough white bread. Yes, the "sweet bread" is doughnut dough, ick. Vegetarians seem to like the variety, so give it a try if you're not into meat. They do have other breads too. read more

I have to admit that Head West makes very good subs, if you eat at the restaurant. This rating is to reflect their level of service and how poorly the restaurant is run. I work at a local hospital and we ordered $80 of food tonight. We placed our order at 5pm and didn't get our food until 7:30pm. On top of that, half our sandwiches were made incorrectly and all of them were cold. This has happened the last few times we have ordered from there. We called to complain when our food was not here after 2 hours because they told us the sandwiches would be here before 7pm when the person paying for them left, and of course he did not get his food. I asked about a discount for taking so long, and an employee informed me that they do not do that or guarantee delivery times. I have never had such horrible service, and our department which makes large orders often has agreed to never order from Head West again. read more
