My wife and I were headed back home to TN from the Peoria area and stopped at an Springfield exit off I-55 for a Subway. When we located the building I noticed this Head West Sub Stop about 100 feet from Subway so I said to my wife, What the heck, we know what Subway has, let's look to see what this place has for vegetarian subs. I went inside to look at the menu and was pleasantly surprised to see not only a veggie sub BUT ALSO a vegetarian turkey and vegetarian ham sub. I chose the vegetarian ham sub for my wife and I to split, plus two drinks. The sub turned out to be perfect. I've been Lied too, found uncooperative staff. I ordered a BLT, I waited an hour for the delivery. When I got the order after waiting, it was incorrect. I called to see if they could give me a credit, as I didn't want to wait another hour for the correct order. The young lady on the other line said she would have to ask the manager, who wasn't in the store. A short while later, I received a call from the supposed manager, the young lady on the other line said they didn't do credit. After calling the third time, the gentleman who answered asked the young lady if she had just made a call saying she was the manager, she said yes. He then proceeded to tell her to never do it again. The gentleman said no credit. As a regular customer, we will no longer be a customer. Between lying, and not working with customer, buyer BEWARE. read more

I used to love Head West. However, my last two experiences were just horrible. The second to last experience the order was just minorly wrong so I figured it was an isolated incident. However, the second time, it was majorly wrong. The store had closed when I got my order so I called the day and talked to Justin. He said he was a manager and said "nothing he could do since I called the next day." So I asked to talk to the owner, he said he would leave a message. Called back a few days after no return and still no response. Looked up owner online and sent him a Facebook message, no response. Whoa. Wanted to check this place out but should have thought twice after reading the customer service reviews. The guy answering the phone for orders CLEARLY doesn't want to be working there. Head West is one of the few things I miss about living in Springfield (horseshoes being one of the others!) Their sweet bread is amazing, and the sandwiches are so big I can usually get two meals out of one. In high school I would make the 20 min. drive from my parents house to the Jefferson store (at that point it was the only one) almost every Saturday. Since moving from springfield I've lived in Peoria, St. Louis and now florida, and have yet to come close to finding sandwiches as good as they have here. I love Head West subs! The sweet bread is always worth a trip. What I really love is that the subs are huge!!! They give a really great portion. My advice is to make sure to add sauce or condiments to your sandwich because it can be kind of dry without it. The only thing I have to complain about is their service. Sandwiches are very good, but avoid this place like the plague if it's busy. When I've gone in and it's slow, everything is fine.. but when it's crowded, the place is so inefficiently run, there's really no telling what you're going to get. Place isn't well managed and the workers all seem to have an incredibly short attention span, so the orders are normally screwed up and the place is pure chaos if they're dealing with a rush. While visiting my son in Springfield this weekend, He asked if I had ever had a sandwich from Head West. When I said no, he said, "Mom, you have to try one, they are the best subs in Springfield. We stopped by the store on Jefferson Street and I got a turkey and provolone for me and a pastrami and provolone for him. For desert, we ordered a pint of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia. I loved the atmosphere of the place, the employees are fun, friendly and very helpful. When we got back to my son's house, I could not believe how delicious and packed with turkey and pastrami our sandwiches were. These sandwiches are awesome and the Cherry Garcia ice cream was a great follow to the sandwiches. Can't wait to have another sandwich from them. I looked up the locations, and they are opening one in Jacksonville, IL where I live.
