I really like Hazel's Kitchen. Good food and good staff. I really enjoy getting to eat outside.

I came up to visit my aunt, and the first place she took me was Hazel's Kitchen for lunch. She said it was a must for my visit. Food We both had salads. My aunt ordered the 'Chicken Salad' salad and I ordered the Chef Salad (topped with thinly shaved turkey and ham, and bite sized cheese). Both were generous portions, made with super fresh greens and veggies (asked if they were locally grown, but they weren't sure). The chicken salad was amazing, with apple slices large enough to see, but not a giant cube like some people serve-- had just the right amount of mayo, not to dry, not too mushy. The homemade dressings are amazing and full of flavor. Service The service was quick-- our server was an older woman with a big smile and a great attitude. She made us feel like we were at home Atmosphere I love the decor and atmosphere of this place. Feels like you're at home or having lunch at your grandma's house. Adorable little cafe that takes up residence in the bottom floor of a house from the early 1900's. The sandwiches are amazing - try the teriyaki chicken on the portuguese roll. These rolls are made fresh daily and delivered from a bakery nearby. read more

Such a cute local eatery. The menu is small, but contains delicious and fresh choices. My favorite is the Chicken Teriyaki sandwich on the Portuguese sweet roll. Their potato salad is so good, very light flavor, no tang. They have the best iced fruit tea as well. read more

This is the best place in Tulare and one of only a handful of local eateries worth your while. It is locally owned, pleasant to be at, a friendly old lady is usually your server, and the food is really good. The only downside is that they are only open for lunch, but that is simply part of their identity. read more

Never have anything negative to say about Hazels! Such amazing warm fresh food and great customer service. The employees are so sweet and so welcoming. The food is some of the best I ever had, and the iced tea is amazing, with an orange hint of flavor making it so unique ! Such a Tulare only go-to that everyone should try at least once. read more

Tasty sandwiches served in a charming old home. It looks more like a bed and breakfast. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

We found ourselves on the south side of Tulare not close to any known eatery. Yelp led us to Hazel's Kitchen ... a unique lunch place transformed from an old haunted house ... so the legend goes. Mary is the name of the wonderful woman who served us a delicious lunch. My wife and I shared the red pepper chicken sandwich on rye. Potatoe salad was fresh, good texture, mild. Yelp, you did it again! I am so glad that I stopped here at Hazel's for lunch before heading back to Bakersfield. This will be my forever lunch spot every time I work in Tulare. The atmosphere was wonderful. Eat on the porch! The waterfall and music totally overshadowed the amount of work that I had going on. I threw a baby shower for my sister on a Saturday afternoon. They were happy to open for the private party. I'm living in San Francisco so I had to coordinate everything long distance which was handled smoothly. The food was delish!!!! I couldn't get enough of the chicken salad sandwich and their angel hair pasta! To top things off we had a choice of red velvet cupcake, birthday cake cupcake, and chocolate cupcake to choose from! My fave was birthday cake cupcake but everyone else loved red velvet. Excellent service from Denise! She served a bunch of hungry women and was so good! She was really attentive and sweet! She was also very accommodating and professional. But where was the guy I spoke to on the phone? Can't even remember his name? Would have been nice to see the person I sent my money to. We had lunch here today and both had the pastrami, one hot and one cold. Great lean pastrami and the potato salad was like homemade, if not homemade. Everything was fresh and delicious. 2nd visit and soo pleased! Perfect potato salad! Nothing bizarre or extreme, just a traditional potato salad, like my mom use to make! Perfectly cooked potatoes matched with quality ingredients. Just had lunch there with 2 friends. We had various sandwiches, soup and salads. All 3 orders were fresh and tasty. The cobb salad looked the best but my Pastrami was also very good. we stopped in for a quick lunch on our way up to the sequoia national park. this little restaurant is interesting. not sure where to start. it's a home decor store for sure, but it also has a b&b feel about it (it's located in the historic hoyt house) ...but ultimately, it's a restaurant. they have a sandwich selection with your choice of bread and sides, which may include soup, angel hair pasta, salad, or potato salad. it's two stories and upstairs there are a couple of rooms with different themes and most everything interior design related is marked for sale. i had the ham and swiss club on sourdough with a side of baked potato soup, it was nice and hearty. their ice tea is something to note -- very refreshing and seem to be pretty popular with the locals. over all, the service was friendly and there's definitely a good amount to take in if you're into antiques or home decor. read more

My ham & turkey sandwich was pretty good. my friends chicken salad sandwich did not have enough chicken salad mix. For desert we ordered a chocolate chip cookie and a Browne. This old house is such a cute place for lunch. I especially enjoy dining outside when the weather is mild. The vegetarian sandwich on honey wheat bread is so fresh and the side salad with house dressing is the perfect accompaniment. A couple of times the service has been a little slow but nothing too bad. I walked into Hazel's Kitchen and it took me back to the visits I made to my great grandma as a kid. I ordered the chicken sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was really good and fresh. I asked for the famous 1000 island sauce on my salad and want too impressed. It was extremely thick like a relish and didn't spread well. There was definitely an older crowd during lunch. read more
