Never had a bad time here. Service is never anything but spot on. I've never seen anything but cleanliness. I eat here at least twice a month. Coffee is good. Love the Mollettes. Ma usually eats the breakfast sandwich. I also adore the 'Special Charro Beans' with steak. The Chorrizo Quesodilla is worth chowing down on. I've been at 11AM, and 2PM. I usually go on Saturday. I'll try to take pics this next time. I love this place. It's the best Mexican cafe in the area. I'd say it's as good as REcess in downtown. I'd certainly rate it as being as good as Avocado's. I used to love coming/ordering Haydees, but today was a horrible experience. We paid over $40 for bean tacos. I called to let the owner know about my order being wrong and while trying to explain what was wrong she kept talking over me and eventually hung up. We LOVED our first visit and food here! Fresh, fast, and delicious! Best breakfast tacos since we last visited Texas. From the choices to the homemade "flour" tortillas you can tell without a doubt that's where the owners are from. Tortas were fat and yummy! They were filled really well w meat and lots of fresh ingredients. They were the special today and you got 2 w a drink for 6.99! Sooo much better than other lunches for that price. Small little place in Oakwood. Stopped in for lunch. Service was very good. Food was ok. Taco was good, but they have grilled onions. While it taste good, I would have preferred raw onion to add to the texture and be more authentic. We got tostadas as well. They were ok. Not bad, not great, just ok. Table was dirty, horrible service, had to ask for sauce twice and the 1st time she said they where out(hello it's a Mexican restaurant, how can you run out of sauce), forgot our fries, the chicken isn't as good as it used to be(it is boiled), not good. This place is somewhat a hole in the wall but AMAZING food! Everything is authentic and very flavorful. The steak tacos are amazing. Usually I put sauce to make it flavorful, I had the sauce but didn't even get a chance to put it since it already had so much flavor. Their queso fries are really good as well. I have only been able to eat a Haydees a couple of times, everything that I have tried has been really good. The staff is very polite and friendly, the restaurant is always clean. Tonight I ordered the Tacos De Bistek togo. They have the best corn tortillas, the steak was not over seasoned and was tender. The combination of steak, cilantro, raw onion, avocado slice, cheese and roasted onion is fantastic. They have two different sauces a green and a red. The green is a milder tomatillo sauce, it has a great flavor and adds another layer of flavor to the already good tacos. The red sauce is more like a tomato and red chill pepper sauce, it has a great flavor as well but with a little kick and compliments the steak well. They both work well and I recommend getting both with the tacos, its hard to choose between the two. The tacos came with a side of there Frijoles a la Charra. I think that I could eat them as a meal with just a chunk of cornbread. They are packed with flavor almost like chili but without meat. I look forward to my next visit and diving further into the menu trying some of there other offerings. read more

It pains me to leave this review, but I have to say that my husband (who goes to Haydees often when he's working) says that the food has not been up to par the last few times he ate there. He said the Asado de puerco has been a lot fattier and more gristle than before, and there's much less chicken in the quesadillas. It's like they changed cooks or something and the new cook doesn't care as much? Really disappointing given how stellar everything was before. read more

I had a unpleasant experience today. Their customer service was terrible. If you're of a particular ethnicity don't expect to be acknowledged when you walk in through the door. The staff didn't acknowledge me and left me waiting at the take out/ register counter for a long time. When I first got to the counter, a woman was cashing out a customer as soon as she was done she walked away without even acknowledging me and she never returned. Later, other Staff members looked at me and didn't bother to ask to help me. Finally, one of the waitress asked me if I was picking up an order. As she was giving me my order,. Another customer walked up behind me and the original cashier was so attentive to that customer and helped her. I noticed how they treated the customer before me and after me a lot better and yes they were of a different ethnicity than me. Restaurants need to remember that it's the customers that keep your doors open. Sorry, I won't recommend to friends & family. read more

Stopped by with my wife for a late lunch today. At 2pm, the place was still half full and we noticed at least six people come in solely for a to-go order. On a Saturday, I thought it showed a pretty healthy customer base. I ordered the Al Pastor Tacos, she had the Sopes (never heard of this before, but like a thicker Tostada with toppings). Both were top- notch. I normally don't like corn tortillas, but these had a better flavor and different texture than many of the ones I have had before. Super good! Staff was very friendly, food was quick and flavorful. I am not an expert at authentic Mexican food but if this is what I've been missing because I foolishly trusted Taco Bell for years, the joke is on me. Five stars. read more

We stopped at this unassuming and clean cafe in a strip mall yesterday after taking my daughter to UNG. We now have a new favorite place to eat in Gainesville. Everything was very good and tasty. It was not busy when we stopped about 4:30 pm for an early dinner before driving back home. The person who waited on us said they extended their hours until 8 pm about 2 months ago and that dinner had been slow. Because of their location, they can't serve alcohol (near a school) which might be a detriment to dinner-but it shouldn't be. There are plenty of folks who don't drink or are driving somewhere like us and shouldn't. He reported that breakfast and lunch are usually busy. I can see why. This small family place is about the food. Everything that we had was fresh. Homemade tortillas, salsa. This is Tex Mex and not Cali style Mexican food. We started with chips, salsa and a side order of guacamole with large chunks of avocado and a zesty taste of lime. My husband always orders the same thing-chimichanga. I tasted his filling of tender steak with cooked peppers and onions perfectly seasoned -delicious. He was super happy with his meal. Our daughter had sopes with beans and avocados,I tasted her sopes shell and it was not as heavy as some I've tried. It's about the size of an English muffin and is made of cornmeal (?) and a little concave on the top to hold the filling. The bean filling was very good. My enchiladas chicken verde- the fresh flour tortillas were filled with tender white meat chicken and covered with just enough green (verde in Spanish) sauce which was all topped with freshly shredded white Mexican cheese. On the side were some of the best beans I've had recently and some Spanish style rice. They seem very accommodating here, I read the other reviews before we stopped and have to say- if you like raw onions, tell the guy and he will bring you some with a smile. I prefer mine cooked unless they are in a salad - just saying:) My daughter wanted her cheese on the side - no problem. We topped our dinner off with a Oreo inspired sapodillas with vanilla ice cream sprinkled with sugar. I jokingly told them, you could reinvent yourself as a dessert place at night with stuff like this. They offer a variety of sodas - we had Mexican coke and blackberry flavored iced tea at our table. Oh, and the health score was an A - a 96. Good job Haydee's - we'll be back! read more
