Grab & go spot. Been on my radar for a while but line always long. One time, after lunch rush, i happen to see that its almost empty so i decided to give it a try! Worth the hype. All the 3 meat i ordered were tender, crispy, juicy. The nice kid on the front gave me a choice of fatty or mix. Small seating inside, good for solo diner but not for groups. Looks clean & art work is interesting diversion while waiting for my food to get ready! Will come back

I get why this is a staple if you're visiting Chinatown. Seeing the roast duck while walking down the street is...quite the sight. Like most other places in Chinatown, it's fast-paced, crowded, and a great deal for what you get. We got the char siu, scallion chicken, and roast duck, which are all winners. They're all flavorful, tasting exactly as expected, and filling. I get why people like this place so much.

For $10.25, you can get a rice bowl with cabbage, and a choice of chicken or pork ribs. It comes with scallion ginger sauce and soy sauce. My favorite is the scallion and ginger sauce that goes well with chicken. I always get the rice bowl with scallion chicken and it tastes amazing! That is the R101 item on the menu. The good thing about this place is there is there is a long table in the back of the restaurant with bar stools. The bar stool has a section where you can hang your purse so that's a plus. There is a bathroom at the end of the place. Ambience is very casual. You pay and take your order to eat at the table. The whole place is very tight and long. Sometimes it can get a bit crowded because everyone is standing next to each other waiting for their orders to be ready.

I could smell this place as I was walking around the corner in the best way possible. I got a rice combo with scallion chicken, char siu, and roasted duck. I was happy to see it came with a variety of sauces and a small pile of steamed napa cabbage. I think I would have enjoyed this meal more if I'd taken it home or had a place to sit down and really dig in. I found the pieces of duck to be pretty stingy as it was mostly bone but it tasted good. The chicken was juicy, but the char siu was a little dry for my liking. Overall, pretty good but I'm not inclined to go back anytime soon.

This place was on the more expensive end of Chinatown bbq options but their honey roast pork is super flavorful. There was also no line for a weekday lunch time and plenty of bar seating available against the wall so it's a great and quick alternative to some other chinese bbq options in the area!

CASH ONLY This is a Hong Kong-style BBQ spot. You can customize your meat cut: fatty, lean or half/half On 11/22/25, I ordered 1/2 of a Pipa Duck. It was bony, which made it difficult to enjoy. Eating around the bones was tough. I could have choked. Nevertheless, the duck was flavorful and tender on the inside and crispy on the outside--pairing nicely with the duck sauce. There are some seats with bar stools, but Hay Hay Roasted is really a take out place. They packaged my duck well in a microwaveable container, and the service was fast around 11:15 AM for an early lunch.

Supposed to be half roasted duck. But it seems like bit and pieces.

I've ordered half of the roasted duck. It turns out not as expected. It seems like there are some missing pieces in between. I feel like I got cheated it. This is the second time it happened. I don't think I will come back again.

Not only are your portions large, you get SOOOOO MUCH FLAVOR! I opted for crispy pork, char siu, and roasted duck over rice with cabbage and a lemon iced tea. Service was fast and friendly! Walk with cash because it's a cash only place.

Taste test of this popular Hong Kong style BBQ spot in NYC Chinatown: Hay Hay Roasted serve roasted meat rice boxes starting at $10.25 (one topping), or you can grab a whole box of char siu for just $14. What I really liked is that you can customize your meat cut -- fatty (肥), lean (瘦), or half-and-half (半肥瘦) -- depending on your preference, just like how we do it in HK. Pro tip from a HK local: ask for ginger scallion sauce (薑蓉) to go with your rice. It makes everything taste even better! *Three Selection Rice Combo 三拼飯 $12.25 SO WORTH IT. The box was fully loaded with meat that you could barely even see the rice underneath! I went with char siu, scallion chicken (蔥油雞), and roasted duck (燒鴨). The chicken and duck were a bit bony, but you can always substitute them for leg if you prefer. The sweet baby napa on the side balanced out the greasiness of the meat. *Char Siu (Honey BBQ Pork) 蜜汁叉燒 $14/lb Decent price for the quantity! The char siu was well-marinated and flavorful even without any soy sauce. The seasoning was spot-on, not too sweet or salty. I asked for half-fatty, half-lean, and it had the perfect balance of both. I took the leftovers home and made char siu fried rice and slippery egg with char siu. *Crispy Skin Roasted Pork 燒肉 $14/lb It had a nice fat-to-meat ratio and crispy golden skin. It was too salty for my taste, but my friends all loved it. So I'd definitely recommend enjoying it with rice. *HK Style Milk Tea 港式奶茶 $5.5 - surprisingly authentic. *Lemon Ribena 檸檬利賓納 $5.25 - such a nostalgic drink! I haven't had it in so many years.

I've been here twice. Once the honey roasted pork, and the other for the duck. I love the cabbage and sauce they serve with it. I personally preferred the pork over the dunk but both were great. They only take cash so make sure you have enough but the price is great for what you get.

I've been here twice in five years but twice a day would be better. It's a rare opportunity to try cuttlefish and the mix-and-match combos are a great idea. Tonight I also enjoyed ribs and duck. The seating area is small but I was glad to be here - much better for photos than my cloudy-day takeout in the park last time.

Don't buy into the hype. Been around Chinatown for decades and I never came here and was never told to but their recent social media push got me curious. So the only thing I can really say is, their social media and marketing efforts are top tier. The food and service, not so much. There's no ambience as it's basically just meant for takeout. There's a counter in the back that you can stand at to eat but please don't. Service is disappointingly slow. Unnecessary delays with the roast meats led to a 15 minute wait. They renovated, got some nice bags and got some influencers to post about them but there's not much here. My roast pig is about par for the course. Skin is crispy and even the leaner cut that they had left wasn't dry, but it did lack some flavor. I'll give them credit for cutting holes in the plastic box so the skin wouldn't steam and get soggy but it wasn't hot enough to need it. It also looked nothing like the curated social media post, ending up tossed around and unorganized. Cuttlefish was also about par, tender but seriously lacking in flavor. There are plenty of other places for better roast meats without the wait and the guilt of being borderline scammed by social media. Choose accordingly.

HEY HEY, HAY HAY! if it's one thing that I must get during a long weekend in New York, it's Cantonese roasted barbecue. I saw this place on Instagram and had a bookmark and was pleasantly surprised that it was at the very beginning of Mott Street so I didn't really have to venture far down. It's a small, very narrow shop where you order at the window, with only a few seats along the wall. (Note that it is cash only.) In addition to the typical roasted and crispy pork and roasted duck, I also saw sausages, ribs, and other cuts of meat (probably ears and offal). Since this was my first time trying this establishment, I kept it simple and got the roasted honey pork and roasted duck over rice, as well as an order of char sui (honey roasted pork) over lo mein. The lo mein was out of this world. Typically lo mein that I've had does not include egg, but this version had it was the perfect addition! I love a good egg worked into a stir-fried dish with a perfect amount of wok hei and their lo mein hot all of those points. I absolutely will be returning the next time I'm in the city.

We went straight for their signature deep fried garlic chicken and decided to share the Peking duck--and both dishes were beautifully presented and packed with incredible flavor. The chicken, in particular, was crispy, aromatic, and absolutely delicious, though it's worth noting you'll want to be a bit careful as there are quite a few small bones throughout. The Peking duck was equally impressive, cooked perfectly with rich, satisfying taste in every bite. You can really tell the kitchen puts care into both quality and presentation. On top of the food, the staff were adorable and welcoming, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. The ambiance felt warm, lively, and comfortable--perfect for a relaxed meal in Chinatown. Uncle Lou is a Cantonese restaurant that also serve Dim Sum dishes. The business name reference Chinese culture of calling adults "uncle" (suk1 suk1, 叔叔) or "auntie" (aa3 ji4, 阿姨) is a polite, common way to show respect, build connection, and bridge generational gaps. It treats non-relatives like family, making strangers feel younger and fostering closeness. The atmospheric decor contains very beautiful Chinese lanterns suspended from the ceiling throughout the restaurant. I believe it is decorated for Lunar New Year throughout the entire year. No comment for facility as I did not utilize. Customer service is average attentive and the staff is fluent in both English and Cantonese. I did not have to wait long to be served nor request the bill, and neither attain change. I often dine alone as a single woman and was regarded with respect for patronizing. It is always good to hear Cantonese spoken as it is mellifluous... at long last to continue this vernacular of Chinese language. I ordered in a mixture of both English and Cantonese. I was promptly seated by the maître d' promptly for a table. Melamine/plastic chopsticks in neon green and ceramic / porcelain china including ceramic Chinese soup spoon are distributed to customers while dine-in. A traditional teapot is also distributed during the duration of meal like large banquet hall Dim Sum restaurants. The large round tables contain a rotating lazy susan in traditional Chinese restaurant standard. Wow. No disposable wooden chopsticks and no disposable bowls for utensils are distributed at Uncle Lou. Price is slightly high, but worth the food quality and customer service. Uncle Lou did surely feed me! Shrimp Wonton noodle soup, Ho fun (flat rice noodles), shrimp based broth, $14.95 The bowl is gargantuan and the six (6) dumplings are good size portion served in ceramic / porcelain china. There are Chinese vegetable of one strand choi sam (choy sum) and scallions. The shrimp Wonton dumplings are a good size and good consistency. The soup broth is solid for flavor and consistency. It was served piping hot as steam was visibly emitting. The soup broth was slightly heavy. The flat rice noodles were sufficient for quantity. Noodle soup is Chinese comfort food and warms the heart. It sustained my hunger pangs throughout the day. Upon arrival the wait staff prominently announce to inform customers of 9% discount for cash payment and a 3% additional surcharge or fees for any credit/debit card payment for situational awareness. I was informant and made fully aware twice: upon entry when seated and upon receiving the bill. Uncle Lou complies with "Prohibition of Cashless Establishments, as of March 21, 2026, all retail and food establishments in New York State, including New York City, must accept in-person cash payments, banning fully cashless stores." (source: Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Local Law 34 of 2020). Oh! For small amounts of purchases, my default payment method is cash. Yes, cash is still widely accepted in the 21st century. Nota Bene: Have cash on hand to avoid annoying surcharge or fees. The bill is calculated and manually handwritten the old school way still a timeless classic. I paid my bill in cash including gratuity. No comment for Apple Pay or Google Wallet (formerly Android Pay/Google Pay) either acceptance or price differential vs. cash.

I can't exactly say that I loved all those changes either. The chicken was just like the salt and pepper chickens at other Chinese places. The jam that came with it alongside with the biscuits were what made them special. I personally was not a fan of the jam. I could not really put my finger on what it was that I was nitpicking on but I did not touch it much. The biscuit was a hit. Even my picky daughter was into it and kept asking for more. I expected it to be a dryer biscuit but I am not complaining. Maybe just a bit crumblier than I expected. It was good. The fried rice was it's grains and how its absorbed it's sauce. It kind of reminded me of risotto. It was ok, good, but it was not a favorite. Old man chiu and the landlady. They were good.
