I would not recommend booking with Haustay. We typically use Airbnb for our annual family vacation to San Diego, but this year we decided to try a different platform. Considering we were spending around $1,000 per night for an entire week, we felt confident booking with a company whose website emphasizes "exceptional service." Unfortunately, that was not our experience. We were traveling from Arizona to escape the summer heat with two small children and a 6-month-old baby. We knew when booking this beachfront property that it did not have air conditioning, which normally isn't a concern for coastal San Diego. Unfortunately, our stay happened to fall during unusually warm temperatures and record-breaking humidity. The house was extremely muggy and never cooled below 80 degrees, making it incredibly uncomfortable, especially with a baby and young children. Given the unusual weather and heat advisory, we reached out to Haustay and asked if they could provide a portable AC unit. We were told no because the property was advertised as not having AC. We then asked for additional fans. After multiple texts and follow-ups, fans were eventually delivered, but they provided very little relief unless you were standing directly in front of them. At that point, we asked whether we could receive a refund for the remaining nights so we could move to a hotel with air conditioning, or whether they could accommodate us at another property. Again, the answer was no. Their reasoning was essentially that the home was advertised without AC and they had provided us with fans. We completely understand that Haustay cannot control the weather, and we knew the property didn't have AC when we booked it. What was disappointing was the lack of flexibility or meaningful effort to help when circumstances became unusually uncomfortable. When you're paying around $7,000 for a week and a company markets itself around exceptional service, you expect more than being reminded that the listing said there was no AC. Haustay also told us that the owners would not allow them to provide a portable AC unit. If that's the case, my recommendation to Haustay would be to have portable units available for situations like this, particularly during extreme weather, so they have the ability to actually provide the exceptional service they advertise. Unfortunately, the heat wasn't our only issue. During our stay: * A fire alarm went off at 4 a.m. because of a bad battery * Landscapers showed up at the property without any advance notice to us * The Wi-Fi went out * The washing machine or the wall behind it appeared to be leaking water onto the laundry room floor * Bug found in the master tub upon arrival Any one of these issues on its own would have been manageable. Combined with an unbearably hot and humid house and the lack of meaningful assistance from management, it made for an extremely disappointing stay. This is the one big family vacation we take each year, and we specifically spent more money hoping to have a great experience. Instead, we spent much of the week uncomfortable and trying to get help. For the amount we paid and the level of service Haustay advertises, we expected much better. read more

We stayed at a Haustay-managed home in Encinitas September 25-27 and were very disappointed, especially for what we paid. On our first night we found extensive dark spotting that appeared to be mold on the ceiling of the downstairs guest bedroom, above the bed, and heard what sounded like dripping overnight. When we reported it, the only offer was an early checkout, which wasn't realistic on that notice. We were already in Encinitas for the weekend (from out of town) and for us to find last minute accommodations for all 5 of us at a reasonable rate was unrealistic. Haustay sent a contractor, Flood Solutions. Their technician told us it was "very concerning." Their owner then called and said it was only "a tiny bit" and had been wiped clean. The treatment left a strong chemical smell, and we kept the downstairs bedroom and bathroom closed for the rest of the stay, so we paid for a house we couldn't fully use. The towels in one bathroom also smelled strongly of body odor and others were worn to rags. I've reported the potential mold to the City of Encinitas and San Diego County in the hopes that this management company actually fixes the issue and doesn't try to rent this property out again to someone else. It's a health hazard to sleep with that stuff above your head. read more

I stayed in a house maintained by Haustay recently in Encinitas. My review is mixed because the house was not well maintained but the house itself was nice. The basic like linens and towels were clean, but it seemed like the house had not had a deep cleaning in a long time. Seating cushions were stained and when I lifted them up, there was bits of food underneath from some previous guest. The bathroom in the room I stayed in had some issues where some fixtures were misinstalled or needed service and sprayed were you don't want them spraying. And the A/C in the master bath was broken when I arrived. There was a note saying they were aware it was broken, but no one came by to fix it during my stay. The fan in the room was not adequate to cool the room in the afternoon. And the type of breakage of the A/C (apparently it leaked water) suggests it was not regularly maintained (eg the condensate drainage lines were not maintained and clogged). I will say on the positive side, the house had a beefy EV charger, which was super handy. EDIT: Msg to Haustay - I stayed as a guest on someone else's reservation. Airbnb knew about it (I have the emails). No idea why you don't. read more

Booked a 2-night stay through Haustay Vacation rentals on Airbnb. I paid the full amount of the stay (over $3,700). Weeks later after confirming with our large family for this trip, they contact me to inform me that my reservation will be canceled unless we pay the host for an additional night. The experience from the beginning was terrible. Requested an early check in and was told they could accommodate for an additional $100/hour. Which would have been okay if their website didn't say otherwise. They try to overcharge you right from the start, do i offered them $50/night since in their eyes it was ok to overcharge i figured why not offer a lower hourly cost. Should have been $80ish mad per night. Even worse I booked them directly from their site. When I questioned why they were charging more they cancelled my booking. Glad I avoided these criminals even before staying with them. Goodluck to those who do. Read the fine print. Edit since Nick decided to response. You guys are complete liars. Very disappointed. We rented a home near the beach on Air BnB from Haustay. We were really looking forward to our trip, as anyone would, but it fell on disappointment once we arrived at the unit. Although, Haustay did offer us a full refund, we were left scrambling to find a place to sleep the first night, and a place to stay at the 9th hour; not to mention we had a very early flight out of the DC area, so by the time we arrived we were tired and ready to relax, instead of searching for hotels late into the evening. We contacted Haustay the next morning to see if they could assist us with another property, location, anything, to no avail. We asked if they would provide any $$ for inconvenience of misrepresentation of their property and the event we would have to pay premium pricing for a last minute stay, to no avail, Nick didn't care to respond. Several years ago, my wife and I decided that if we wanted to do our own travel, we were going to need to find a property manager to take over the lion's share of our business. We have three high end properties with a total of 9 vacation rentals units, so we knew we wanted someone like minded who would help us maintain our mainly ocean front rentals. When we first started interviewing potential property managers, we weren't all that impressed and then just as we were going to be forced to make a less than exciting choice, we met Nick and Elisa. Immediately my wife and I felt that Haustay was the company we were looking for and we have not been disappointed. They helped us upgrade our booking portal, the maid crews who are so important for the high end guest experience as well as always making us aware on a timely basis of any repairs or improvements that needed to be made. In Oceanside, Azul Escape was a light, airy and spotless 2bedroom unit. While the building is older, the unit itself has been thoughtfully updated and had everything we needed for a getaway with my mom. A few minutes walk into the town centre gave us access to multiple restaurants and nearby grocery stores were convenient for provisions. Nick and his team were very responsive and unit access was super convenient. It is a 10-15 minute walk down to the pier and the beach. Parking is below the unit, and it is 30 steps to the top floor where the unit is located. There is a territorial view to the west but not really a view of the ocean. However ocean breezes kept the unit cool. We opened the windows and used the ceiling fans. There are also portable air conditioners in the bedrooms which we did not use. The way they are attached requires that the shutters remain open so if you are a person who needs to sleep in the dark be sure to bring eyeshades. The only other thing you should know is beds are firm. The bedding was quailty but a foam mattress topper might be a nice upgrade if allowed. We would definitely rent this unit again and will consider others managed by Haustay for future vacations. read more

I can not tell how attentive to detail Haustay is. Nick was awesome and they always kept us aware of anything that was going on. The place very clean and stocked with all the household essentials. There is also a Kuerig in the kitchen that is not shown in the pics which was nice. We have stayed here 2 times and will be returning 3 times in 2024. Make sure you are in for the sunsets at night. A rare combination of a great condo by the beach and wonderful management. My wife and I stayed about 20 days as I convalesced post back treatment. The unit is essentially brand new with quality appliances, comfortable beds and view up the beach. The surroundings were quiet, well maintained and parking an easy walk from the unit. We had a wonderful stay in Carlsbad! The location was awesome in terms of being close enough to walk to the beach and also to great nearby restaurants. We parked the car on arrival and didn't use it again until the day we checked out, which was so nice! The property was sparkly clean inside which is priceless in terms of feeling safe and assured in this day and age. Nick and team were always accessible by text and super quick to respond, which we appreciated. The family friendly touches such as having a baby high chair and pack n play ready were ideal for our family, and having the extra clean space to be on the balcony patio was 1 of the reasons why we also wanted to book this location. Nick and team were new managers at a condo we stayed for a week in San Diego. Nick was quick to respond to texts and we had a seamless check in process with his clear instructions and photos. He took over the management in between when we originally rented the unit and when we arrived. The condo looked even nicer in person than the photos. I believe they updated the bedding etc and the linens felt very clean and new. I also liked that the laundry detergent supplied in the unit was a Costco sized Tide free and clear. Often places leave a couple smelly pods to use. Thanks for making the condo such a comfortable place to stay for our week long vacation by the beach. read more
