I am beyond frustrated with this company - Haul U Need Yard Services. I hired them for yard maintenance and cleanups a few months ago, but their reliability has been non-existent. I had an agreement with Nathan for yard clean up twice a month. As of February 8, he is supposed to do 3 and has only shown up once this year. He has stood me up multiple times, promising to show up on a specific day and then simply failing to appear without a call or text. I've spent more time chasing him down for updates than he has spent actually working on my yard. After multiple broken promises and "no-shows," I had no choice but to fire him. If you value your time and want a contractor who actually honors their commitments, look elsewhere. read more

These guys did a wonderful job on our back yard! Due to the pandemic, we hadn't had anyone out to maintain it for about a year and a half, so it was pretty overgrown. We needed a few dead trees removed and replaced, everything else needed to be trimmed back, and a sprinkler line needed to be repaired and relaid. Right from the start, Nathan was responsive, prompt, and reliable with regards to setting up calls and meetings, and getting us an estimate. Nathan deserves 10 stars: he really cared about doing the best job possible for me: he spent time talking with me as we went through my outdoor space to understand exactly what I wanted removed and/or trimmed. I'm so glad I found Nate to do some yard work/landscaping for me! He is knowledgable, reliable, affordable, trustworthy, good communicator, hard working, patient, detail oriented, thoughtful and very nice. He works with you as a real team, making great suggestions but not pushy. He put in a path, planted dozens of plants, put in a new drip system, cleared dry growth for fire inspection, took out multiple huge pampas grass plants by the roots, built new tree stump steps, trimmed a tree - doing it perfectly with a trimmer and by hand, removed ivy from a buckeye tree on a steep hillside - climbing the tree to reach all the branches. Cleaning up well after each job. He's a perfectionist and goes above and beyond what I expected. Nathan did a fantastic job clearing out my extremely overgrown and neglected back yard. He was prompt and responsive, getting all the work done within a week of contacting him and at a great price. He has a great attention to detail, going far beyond what I was expecting. I was shocked at the amount of work he was able to get done in a short amount of time. He trimmed all the plants I wanted to keep, removed all the ones that were dead or too overgrown to save, and then hauled away all of the green waste. Most of all, he pulled out by hand all the weeds and grasses that had taken over most of the yard. At the end, he swept the entire patio and raked the yard clear of all the small clippings and trimmings. After reading the great reviews here, I called Nate to help me reclaim my backyard after years of neglect. He was able to come out the next morning and survey the project. Here's the story: based on the positive Yelp reviews, I gave Nate a call to come by last Friday for an estimate on a yard clean-up job. Four p.m. worked better for me, but he preferred 2 p.m., as it would allow him to miss the afternoon commute back to Berkeley (at least a little). So, no big deal, we went with 2 p.m. I work in consulting, and Friday is a big day for deadlines and last-minute meetings. So, like for most people, taking the afternoon off for personal reasons comes at a price. But, to accommodate the appointment, I took that time off as personal time, looking forward to getting the ball rolling on the clean-up. Long story short: 2 p.m. comes and goes. No Nate. No call. Three p.m. rolls by, then 3:30. I text him asking "what's up? We have an appointment today." If something happened, no sweat. It happens to us all, and that's life. But, after several texts went unanswered and no call was forthcoming, I realized that the lack of response was not due to an emergency, but a lack of concern that a potential customer was left hanging. There was simply no courtesy of a response, text, phone call, or otherwise. I let him know that that's a pretty poor business practice when it comes to a potential customer on a sizable job. Moreover, it's common decency not to blow someone off, especially when they make special accommodations to stick to the agreement. So, that's why I can't give Haul U Need one star, simply because I didn't even get a chance to experience their services. Based on the lack of follow-through, I can't say that I'm optimistic. It wouldn't be fair, however, for me to rate a service that I haven't received. But, it's worthwhile to my fellow consumers and community members out there to consider this story in evaluating whether you wish to engage the services of Haul U Need. It's too bad, as the ratings were pretty good, as were the testimonials. But, a poor and indifferent showing, right off the bat. Because I liked the service he provided, I tried to work with him, but after becoming frustrated many times I had to find a new yard person. I needed last-minute hauling of old furniture, junk and random debris. I called Nate and he was able to work in time to come the same day. The amount of stuff I had was huge and I assumed would require two or three loads. Nate arrived and gave me an honest estimate and told me he would be able to fit it all in one load. After reading all the great reviews, I was really looking forward to using Nate for a small backyard project. He was going to come today at 11:00, and I received a phone call at 11:15. He explained that an earlier project was taking longer than expected. He was apologetic and wanted to make sure my day wasn't impacted.
