One of the best meals in all of OBX where every part of the meal delivered. For starters we had the crispy calamari. The calamari came out hot and tasted so good with the Cajun remoulade to dip in. We also had the special lamb lollipops which were cooked to a perfect medium and were seasoned perfectly. The chopped wedge salad was massive and great to share with another person. The seafood corn chowder is packed with all different kinds of seafood and makes a nice thick chowder. The shrimp and grits is one of the best shrimp and grits I've had. The tomato sauce is full of so much flavor with the large tomato chunks adding some nice texture to the dish. The grits are fried into cakes that have that crispy outside and smooth grits on the inside. On the specials we had the fried soft shell crab. While the crab had a nice light batter the crab shell isn't great but was made up with the lemon remoulade on top. The vegetables were under seasoned lacking salt and any other seasoning. The whole fried fish did stand out as a great dish with the fish cut into large strips, the light fry, and the Cajun remoulade to add some flavor to dip in. For dessert we had the special chocolate mousse cake which was delicious but nothing too special. Overall every item was good and our server was wonderful and I will plan on coming back whenever I'm in the OBX. read more

We stopped in for dinner with a party of 14. Hatteras Sol was very accommodating. They gave us a wait time of 1 hour 15 minutes. They have an app to follow your wait time. We waited on the docks while sipping cocktails. Really cute set up. They called us back exactly at 1 hour 15. We tried the crab dip and riblets for appetizers - excellent! First off, I'd like to say that the service was fantastic. The food was great, and our server Justin was a fantastic guy. My only complaint is the seating. They don't take reservations, which is understandable. We were told that the wait would be 20-25 minutes, which quickly turned into an hour. The setup of the seating makes no sense, because there were people who got there before opening and were being seated. We also had several people behind us in line, in the same size party be seated before we did, and we basically got ignored for a good half hour. Asking about why we were being skipped led to a host telling us she had no idea, and made no effort to figure out why. We have gone to this restaurant several times, and we make an effort to come here whenever we're in the outer banks. I believe that the management of seating is really the only thing wrong with this restaurant, and if you're going to make someone wait, you should at least be able to tell them why. read more

Hatteras Sol is very popular and in the high season there will be a wait, ours was one hour on 7/25/25. The view of the marina and harbor is beautiful and the service was top notch. We made sure to be early and got there before 5 to stand in line, and they made sure our table was ready shortly after opening. Cannot say enough good things about this place. Friday night in October. This place is walking distance from my buddy's obx house so we walked over at about 5:30. Got on the list and had a drink at the bar and the table was ready in about 10 minutes. Got some recommendations from our sever and started with their excellent take on oysters Rockefeller. A fried oyster with a remoulade in a bed of vinegary greens was an excellent combination. The greens were the star I had pan seared scallops that came with Cole slaw, fries, sautéed vegetables, tarter and cocktail sauce and it was very good. My buddy had fried flounder, the special recommended by the server and it was really tasty. Fried in a spicy season and maybe breaded in corn meal? It was a whole dish and came with more sides than he could get through. He picked up the check, but commented that it was very reasonable. If I go back it'll be the flounder. read more

Hatteras Sol is an ok Italian-ish restaurant. Our waiter was excellent at refilling drinks but did only order me a side salad when I ordered a full size salad for my entree. I was only charged $6 instead of $12 but it wasn't enough food so I ended up paying $2.75 for some bread. We were told we were going to a "seafood" restaurant and while there was some seafood on the menu the choices were limited. I like grilled shrimp not the breaded or fried type. I don't see myself returning here for dinner although I did enjoy seeing the sunset on the water after dinner. read more

One of our favorite places on the island. Almost every table has some water view and many full views of the Sound and magnificent sunsets. Now let's get to the food. We both had the seafood chowder. It has a spicy bite but is excellent. My wife had the Black drum special and I had Shrimp and Grits. Yes we were members of the clean plate club. We finished with banana foster cheese cake. Great service and excellent food choices. Do not hesitate this is a must try. If you can't get a seat, sit at the Bar. Great service no matter what. read more

Let's see. An almost two hour wait on a Tuesday evening....we lubricated with cocktails that were low brow but fine, nice bartender from New York at the outside bar. Live music was nice. Classic songs done pretty well. But...an almost two hour wait just honestly wasn't worth it. The food was only ok. Caesar salad was underdressed and with prefab cheese that came from a bag. Crab dip is as yum but a small portion. Red drum fish would have been tasteless without the sauce. Local tuna was better. Vegetables were sad but palatable. Views were lovely. Crowd was....basic. My ADA rights were respected and we treated like any other customer which is the best I can ask as a disabled handler of a service dog. First time back in about 5 years. Just as good as I remember. Calamari was tender and very lightly breaded. I was surprised to see duck on the menu, and it was delicious, almost fork tender. The hostess greeted us with a warm, welcoming smile and immediately seated us on a high table for all the others were taken. Our waiter came and took our order, and food came out promptly. This was the freshest seafood we have had in a very long time at a restaurant. Not only was the food fresh but they served all the dishes hot and this is not microwave hot. I recommend the She Crab Soup and wifey had the Shrimp Asian style soup, both were good. The peel and eat Shripm and Crab Cakes are also very good. If you are visiting the Outer Banks, Sol Waterside Grill is recommended. read more

Pretty crappy experience. They opened at 5:00, got there at 5:30. They don't take reservations. Was told about an hour wait which was fine. Grabbed a couple of decent drinks and went to the back deck to watch an amazing sunset. After about an hour we checked with the hostess and was told it was going to be about another half hour. Oh well, so we grabbed another round and sat in the bathroom hallway. It was now too cold to sit outside , and there were no other chairs available. Getting pretty hungry but looking forward to a good dinner. Finally got seated about 7:15. Waiter came over and gave us a sheet of the specials for the evening which we planned on ordering. All of them were scratched off with wording "sold out". Now I'm starting to get pissed , but did not show it outward. Why would he even do that. It was a real kick in the nuts after waiting that long. So we ordered off the regular menu. Fried Oyster Dinner and Seafood Alfredo. Dinners came out relatively fast. Both were just average at best. The oysters were decent, but nowhere near as good as Pop's, limp fries, average coleslaw. The best part of it was actually the vegetable medley which came with it which was unusual addition. Wife's Alfredo lacked any great taste. No discernable lump crabmeat in it. Scallops and shrimp appeared to be of Sisco quality. Best part of it was the sourdough roll. Back to the waiter, who really did not seem to give a damn about our experience. We were never asked how it was. Were never asked about desserts. He just did not seem to care at all. My wife got the pasta with shrimp and scallops. Both were excellent. I decided to grab a dessert. They have their own Lemon pound cake. Really good. Great flavor. Not artificial tasting. I worked down at the landing marina and frequented here almost every night in the summers. very busy (but for a reason)! you might have to wait but can enjoy live music and cocktails out by the water on their deck while you wait. I've tried almost everything and never had a bad meal! The doors opened and we were herded in. Our server was awesome, probably the best experience we had during our week stay on the island. As far as the meal, it was a 10 star. Just totally delish! Local brewery craft beer on tap. Starting with the Crab Dip and Calamari - both to die for, excellent flavor! I wanted to order wings,, the next table over ordered a plate and they looked fabulous. I was also jonesing for the She Crab Soup that kept coming out to tables around me, but I needed to save money for the main course :-) My meal was the Seabood Alfredo. My wife had the Tournedos of Beef & Shrimp Diavolo. My daughter had the Shrimp Carbonara. Mine was absolutely perfect! Shrimp and Scallops cooked perfectly. My wife's filet was tender, melt in your mouth awesomeness. Our only gripe, if that is what you call it was my daughter Shrimp Carbonara was more like Pea Carbonara - just a ton of peas, she picked out about a bowl full and then devoured the rest. LoL. As we waited to be seated ( maybe 15 minutes), we enjoyed the back bar. View was amazing and drinks very refreshing! The staff was amazing and accommodating ( we had a few dietary concerns). This restaurant is amazing in every way that counts and is worth the wait, which you should expect, as this is a very popular spot--and for good reason. The food was absolutely delicious. There are both seafood and meat items on the menu, which has an Italian bent (with lots of pasta options for entrees). In addition to their regular menu there is a specials menu, with seasonal offerings. My fiancé and I both ordered seafood (the fried shrimp platter and the grilled swordfish entree, which was one of the specials), and the first thing that came to both our minds was that this is how great seafood should be served--fresh, in large portions, and accompanied by delicious sides. I'd highly recommend both entrees but especially the fried shrimp, which was to die for. I would also highly recommend their corn seafood chowder (one of the specials), which was densely packed with seafood--exactly how it should be. Although we did not try the steak, a table near us did and it looked amazing. If we're ever in the area this is what I will order. As far as drinks go, I would especially recommend one of their drinks specials, the star-spangled smash, which is very refreshing and not too sweet. Another major asset of this place is the view of the Sound, with most tables arranged near the large windows, so you're almost assured a great view. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The service was quick and friendly (though our waiter did seem stretched quite thin, as nearly all of the tables filled up all at once as soon as the restaurant opened for dinner at 5 pm). Despite that, our food was ready in almost no time--we were very pleasantly surprised in this regard. The ambiance is casual but nice, and lively without feeling overcrowded, even when the restaurant was, in fact, full. If you are planning to have an early dinner keep in mind that a line begins to form outside even before they open, so be prepared to come early and then wait some. read more
