There is a wide selection of seafood including crab legs, alligator, andouille sausage and more. There are small and jumbo shrimp available - they are about $11 and $14 a pound, respectively. Wow!! We knew we would get fresh fish in OBX. Before we headed back to Corolla we stopped to pick up fresh catch. We looked at the Yelp reviews and opted to buy our fish at Risky Business. There is nothing "risky" as a customer here. I suspect risk comes from the nature of any business in OBX. We are THRILLED with the quality and freshness of the fish we bought. We had a delightful discussion about what was happening in the local waters and what he recommended. The Flounder and Tuna were both outstanding!! Just spent some time on Hatteras island and was lucky enough to discover Risky Business Seafood. Seafood called risky? Not in the least at either store. There are two different stores on the island that I found. One in Avon and the other tucked away behind some buildings in Hatteras Village. Not to mention the Risky's restaurant above the shop. (did not get the chance for a meal) If you get the time Steve, "Risky", at the village business is a helluva character.. Cigar clamped firmly in his teeth and a no none sense, in-your-face business style that will rock the meek back onto their heels. When the proprietor comes on with a "whada want, give me your money..." You got to love the business. Risky, however is more than helpful and more than willing to share his knowledge and lend a hand. I had to ship some fresh caught Mahi and Wahoo back home. The price was very good all considering. (Had to buy a cooler, spend the $$$ and get a good one, then had to pay extra baggage for the airlines and over weight fees). Sadly, I did not heed Risky's waring about taping down the ice chest handles for the airport and listened to the airlines about leaving the handles for carrying. They tore one handle off and guess what.. airlines shipping does not cover handles, rollers, etc.. So TAPE down the chest handles and let the airline figure how to carry the cooler. If your fishing the island get your catch over to Risky at the Hatteras location for the cleaning. I watched Risky and his crew filet the catch of others. They do a great job and make sure a majority of the meat is saved and if you ask they will even give you the "cheek meat". (small round scallop like piece of meat that has wonderful flavor and this is the first business I have ever heard of doing this.) The marina crew that did my fish... well lets say they saved me a lot of shipping weight as speed over work quality was the theme. Risky, vacuum packed my fish and flash froze to -20 below zero and even "suggested" how I pack my cooler.. And after meeting Risky you will see a "suggestion" is more like "hey let me tell you how to get it done." But, he knows what he is talking about and listen to his suggestion and take heart. Once I got home over 36 hours later the fish was still rock solid in the cooler. Thanks Risky as now I can enjoy the memories of the trip and the flavor of fresh fish from the trip. A quick note on the sea food quality. We purchased shrimp, scallops and middle neck clams from the business in Avon. Top quality and extremely fresh. Both the processing and the quality of the retail store make either business a stop for your sea food needs. read more

We stopped in after the ferry ride back from Ocracoke. We got a pound of large steamed spice shrimp for us and plain steamed shrimp for the kids. The "Red Snapper" is not fresh or even Snapper. It is imported from Indonesia. The counter person wants you to think it was caught fresh. Ridiculous.
