    Clams in white wine sauce

All of the food was very delicious. I highly recommend the in house made ricotta with honey and almonds and the clams in white wine sauce. We really enjoyed our drinks and had a great birthday celebration. Will definitely be back!

absolutely amazing food! great service very personable and super friendly. Great onions

Cucumber cocktail- I forget what kind but it was gin based

Absolutely phenomenal meal and ambiance! It was a scorcher so the abundant air conditioning was much appreciated. Restaurant decor is fresh, and a pleasant mix of "artsy seashore" and "artsy southern". We were seated right away (but go early, by the time we left a line was at the door) My cocktail was a refreshing gin based cucumber drink. For our entree, I had the Thai curry with shrimp and it was perfectly seasoned, just the right amount of heat. Vegetables were clearly fresh, shrimp cooked just right. Service was fast and very friendly. We are here our last night on island and had it been the first we would absolutely have returned.

Super cute building. It should be a puzzle!

Bottom Line: A neat building with stylish decor, attentive staff and excellent coastal cuisine. Admittedly my husband and I had planned to visit the Back Porch Restaurant but when we found they were closed on Tuesday nights, we ended up at Flying Melon Cafe. For starters, I love the building's exterior. The exterior make it looks old but its a new-ish construction and that is more obvious per the polished interior. (I heard a rumor this lovely historic looking cottage was a cool $2M.) I'm a sucker for anything with marquee lights which the Flying Melon Cafe has. Plus, I like their whimsical logo. Very cute. The inside consists of a bar, several spaces downstairs and an upstairs. Despite being cut into several rooms, the restaurant is still a tad loud. I did not venture upstairs but I did admire the beautiful craftsmanship of the gorgeous handmade spiral staircase. As far as food goes - everything was really good. My husband and I feasted on the bread, clams casino, Ocracoke clam chowder, Triggerfish and flounder. The Triggerfish was fresh and excellent and a recommendation from our flawless waitress, Karen. My husband and I also both really enjoyed the plump clams topped with cheese and salty bacon-y goodness. The Flying Melon Cafe makes their desserts in house so I am bummed we didn't plan ahead and save room to try one. Service was great. On a Tuesday night in August the hostess estimated that the wait time for two would be 30 minutes and it was exactly 30 minutes. Our waitress was attentive, friendly and precise. Overall, we had a very nice meal and experience.

$30 for a slab of fish. No sides except for a small side salad. Ridiculously overpriced. Good presentation was terrible.

The parking is a little hairy but I'm sure you can find a parking spot. Inside the tables have a tablecloth, kinda orange-red with a design. It's different, cool. Even though the place looks busy you are seated quickly. THE STAFF: The night we went, there was this guy & girl serving. Gosh they were quick! Holy moly! I was so impressed! FOOD: We got the special soup, curry sweet potato bisque. Oh man! I'm still salivating over that! It's enough to share!

We came early for apps and drinks and were considering if we wanted to stay for our dinner meal too since the menu looked fantastic (and the ragu was eyeing me down!). It was surprisingly incredibly quiet with only a few of the porch tables taken, so we didn't feel like we were holding anyone up since it was quiet and early. While we were deciding on dinner, the waitress approached us and asked if we made our minds up. When saying we needed a minute but wanted to start with rolls and cocktails, she said, "well can I take your menus then? Or one?" Which felt odd given there weren't many people there at all and we still wanted to decide what apps a dinner to order. Otherwise, she hadn't checked back on us for another 30 minutes after ordering drinks and bread to start, so feeling like a nuisance, and we decided not to get dinner here anymore and we'd go elsewhere. Then, trying to wave the waitress down felt impossible almost as though she was avoiding our table, we had to ask another server for her to grab our check. Otherwise, the outside porch was perfect and shady with fans and airflow for a hot summer day. Very homey! The house made bread was absolutely fantastic. The French 75 was heavy handed on the gin, which can be both good and bad depending how you look at it! Worth the money for us!

I highly recommend Dajio Restaurant. The meal was excellent. I had the blackened ahi on a salad. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. There's a decent but minimal selection of wines by the glass, and I went with a Sauvignon Blanc that paired perfectly. Most of the wines have good ratings by the major wine reviewers. Service was outstanding. The server had that classic beach-town ease (local or seasonal) but really knew the menu and did a great job. At one point, a woman who appeared to be management stopped by the table to check in. When she asked how things were, my answer was simple: "Incredible." The atmosphere is exactly right, relaxed but still polished, with just the right amount of energy without feeling crowded or chaotic. That balance is harder to get right than people think, and they've nailed it. I don't hand out compliments lightly, but this place delivers. Simple, fresh food, executed properly. No gimmicks, no shortcuts. This is absolutely a place you should try if you're in Ocracoke. I'll be back.

I was so disgusted with the filth! " not new filth" OLD FILTH THAT NEVER GETS CLEAN!! I wont go into detail. I joined my wife at our table and ordered a couple of bottled beers. The floor was sticky and dirty, everything on the table was dirty and the whole place smelled like a dirty mop . We didn't order any food or any drinks requiring ice because I don't trust the kitchen or the ice machine is any cleaner than the bathroom. We drank our beer and left.
