Dajio - Fish tacos (blackened mahi mahi)

Usually when I'm in a beach town, I skip the restaurants and head into the hinterlands to find…read moresomething worthwhile. In Ocracoke, you don't need to do that. I highly recommend Dajio Restaurant. The meal was excellent. I had the blackened ahi on a salad. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. There's a decent but minimal selection of wines by the glass, and I went with a Sauvignon Blanc that paired perfectly. Most of the wines have good ratings by the major wine reviewers. Service was outstanding. The server had that classic beach-town ease (local or seasonal) but really knew the menu and did a great job. At one point, a woman who appeared to be management stopped by the table to check in. When she asked how things were, my answer was simple: "Incredible." The atmosphere is exactly right, relaxed but still polished, with just the right amount of energy without feeling crowded or chaotic. That balance is harder to get right than people think, and they've nailed it. I don't hand out compliments lightly, but this place delivers. Simple, fresh food, executed properly. No gimmicks, no shortcuts. This is absolutely a place you should try if you're in Ocracoke. I'll be back.

I found this restaurant on line and the menu looked great! I was really looking forward to going…read morethere for a meal. Upon arrival my wife went on to our table while I visited the restroom. I was so disgusted with the filth! " not new filth" OLD FILTH THAT NEVER GETS CLEAN!! I wont go into detail. I joined my wife at our table and ordered a couple of bottled beers. The floor was sticky and dirty, everything on the table was dirty and the whole place smelled like a dirty mop . We didn't order any food or any drinks requiring ice because I don't trust the kitchen or the ice machine is any cleaner than the bathroom. We drank our beer and left.

Found ourselves craving fresh seafood and decided to grab lunch at Jason's. Despite the place being…read morequite busy, we were seated within about five minutes--a promising start! We ordered a variety of dishes: the cold Italian sub, spicy chicken wings, Greek salad with blackened shrimp, blackened fresh fish sandwich, and blackened shrimp dinner. COLD ITALIAN SUB The cold Italian sub came with chips and was flavorful and satisfying. Wish it had more seasoning and spice, but it was good nonetheless. SPICY CHICKEN WINGS The spicy chicken wings had a nice kick, but weren't overwhelming. Would've been great if they were more flavorful, but they were fried nicely. GREEK SALAD The Greek salad with blackened shrimp was fresh, with perfectly seasoned shrimp that added a great smoky depth. All the ingredients were fresh and crunchy. Feta wasn't overwhelming, just perfect. FRESH FISH SANDWICH The blackened fresh fish sandwich, also served with chips, was a highlight with its flaky, well-seasoned fish. SHRIMP DINNER The blackened shrimp dinner, which came with garlic bread and cocktail sauce, was another standout--generous portions and bursting with flavor. The garlic bread was delish and went with the shrimp, which was cooked to perfection. Super tender and juicy. Service was fast and friendly, making the experience even better. Overall, Jason's delivered on both taste and efficiency, and it's a spot I'd happily return to for a quick and delicious seafood fix!

Went with some friends in the off season and was busy right at five, as it one of the only spots…read moreopen. Every interaction with service members was fantastic, they were kind and attentive. It has a mom and pop feel, where you'll likely seat yourself when it's slow, all prices are somewhat reasonable, seafood was obviously more expensive but I'd say it was pushing the reasonable side of things. I had the fried shrimp with green beans and white Mac and cheese. Shrimp was solid, and high quality. The green beans were good and thin. The Mac and cheese was fine but came out cold, which was confusing considering it was so busy, I don't know why food would be in the window for long periods. For the price and location everything was solid, but not necessarily great, I wouldn't return if there were other open options. Thought I did not have I hear the "Uncle Bunkle" was fantastic.
