The Ferrero Rocher ice cream was honestly really good -- rich, creamy, and easily the highlight of our visit. We genuinely loved it. However, the Rabdi Falooda was quite disappointing. It came without the noodles, which is a key part of the dish. When I asked, they mentioned it wasn't available, but this wasn't communicated while taking the order. For around $10, which feels a bit on the higher side, I expected a complete and better experience. To their credit, they did offer to remake it if I waited 6-7 minutes, but I chose not to since I already had one and didn't want to waste. The Dabeli was okay -- nothing special. The chutney inside was a bit too tangy for my taste. The place itself is cute with a small seating area, and they do have an impressive menu with lots of options. Indian ice-cream flavors. Not even Manhattan can boast that. And they don't care how many flavors you sample, so go ahead and do a gastronomic Duolingo of the display. I highly recommend the Rasmalai (probably my favorite Indian dessert), which is creamy and cardamom-y. The Kesar Pista is rich, buttery and full of saffron spice. The Sitaphal is a great translation of this under-the-radar tropical fruit, so if you can't find custard apple itself, this is probably the next best thing. I'm sad they didn't have a straight up cardamom flavor; in all my years in the NYC area, I've only found pure cardamom ice-cream at Boulud Sud. That said, this is easily the most unique ice-cream spot in downtown JC, so if you're sick of rocky road and don't want to spend a fortune at Van Leeuwen, give Harvy's a shot. read more

This was around the corner from one of my work sites and it was spicy out, so I decided to look for some ice cream. Harvey's was open while all the other businesses were still closed around 11am. The place is very clean and for the longest time I actually thought it was a Bar not a desert gelato joint. I was greeted by two people who were very nice and encouraged me to taste different flavors of gelato. I would say they have the most diverse flavors from Asia in this shop, none of the flavors such as taro, mango, strawberry, butterscotch crunch, pistachio, or lychee was lacking any type of flavor. It was bursting . I opted for a smoothie. It was made by lychee and strawberry sorbet and it was so yummy. I would say the price is very fair given the quality of the gelato. For those of you unfamiliar with this dish, It's like a stuffed naan, which you eat with chole (chickpea curry). It took a few min to be prepped (or maybe it just felt that way because I was hungry after looking at their menu), but the amitsari kulcha was sooooo good (not for those that can't handle some heat though, fyi)! They have Indian ice cream that I tried, loved the rose and kesar pista (saffron) flavors. As an ice cream and travel connoisseur, this beats any other ice cream shops in the area. I love an elevated ambiance and cleanliness. I didn't expect a bar stool concept of seating, let alone pretty chairs and ample seating. The many Indian flavors and their excitement to detail them all was perfect. I learned while here and that is what smart people enjoy and it makes ice cream educational/culturally immersive for American children of the area. I love that! I surprisingly liked every Indian flavor I tried (still more to try on a next visit didn't want to overdo it lol) except the jamun -- it's an acquired taste by far and I'm not a tart lover. The staff were very accommodating when I noticed two flavors were at the end of the container and looked unpleasant to even taste test, I gently spoke up about it and they understood bringing out a fresh container for me to taste and I wound up loving the flavor so bought a scoop as well. Located right below Canopy by Hilton at Marin Blvd, Grove st; this is an Indian desert place with their main outlet in Edison. The ambiance is good but mostly with south indian songs playing there so it feels like you are straight away transported to Hyderabad minus the biryani! The service was good as the server was happy with me trying out various flavors while being patient with me. I tried raw mango, lychee, kesar pistachio, Punjabi spl ( orange, mango and pineapple mix), fig, custard apple and chickoo before finally settling on custard apple and chickoo. I did notice that they make their ice creams from real fruit which gives them the taste close to the Naturals ice cream brand( Indians from India will relate to this). The downside of their product is that it's a bit pricey (can understand given the location) while the quantity which has been served isn't up to the mark... Usually the other ice cream outlets will end up serving a lot for the similar price! Overall a welcome addition to the Jersey City community, while hoping they improve on the scoop quantity! P.s. The guy making my falooda straight-up refused to wear gloves, even though I could see half the other employees actually bothering to wear them. Are you kidding me? And it gets worse: while he's "preparing" my order, he grabs some random customer's phone with his nasty, unwashed hands--hands that were already caked with who-knows-what--and then goes right back to touching my drink without even a quick rinse.
