Good -- but certainly not great -- seafood served in extremely casual setting with prices that greatly exceed the quality of the food. Servers are great, but the prices far outpace the food. Calamari is limp and over breaded. Clams casino are strangely topped with tomatoes and should be avoided. Steamed clams are smaller than they should be. read more

This place is great! There was a long wait but it was worth it. We got the Calamari Vera Cruz with fresh jersey tomatoes and it was fantastic! The service was very warm and the food came well paced. Portion sizes are huge. Ridiculously huge. Scallops are the best I ever had - get the broiled scallops. Just trust me. It's a BYO which is great! This is cash or check only. Weird in this day and age. They have no dessert, which is fine because then they can concentrate on the food - plus there are tons of ice cream options down the road. The fish specials were too loaded with toppings... For a nice piece of fish to be smothered in tapenade is silly - would have been better with less - will try the swordfish on the regular menu next time. Also wish that they had crab cocktail on the menu. Prices are reasonable especially for the amount of food you get, but be prepared to wait an hour to be seated - even at 8:30PM - this place is popular. read more

I'm not much of a seafood eater but I cannot express how DELICIOUS this food is. I've been going many times this summer and am constantly finding myself dreaming about the Calamari Vera Cruz. This calamari- I have no words. The tomotoes are perfectly cooked, the hot peppers are the best and the calamari is cooked to perfection. It's definitely a large portion but I would recommend getting 2 orders with more than 5 people because that's how good it is. Also- the Sautéed Mussels over Linguini, AMAZING. I don't get seafood anywhere else because of how delicious this place is. One downside is that they don't take reservations and is CASH ONLY but the restaurant is BYOB (with a liquor store right across the street) and you'll somehow find yourself drinking numerous glasses of wine, attempting to play the "ring game" right outside. read more

Came after a sunset SUP and beach yoga. It was close to 9 pm by the time we arrived. Wait was less than expected and food was delicious! Nothing fancy but just really good seafood. Had the baked shrimp with lump crab. Mmmmm. Only thing that could have made it better would have been an awesome sauce to go with it and a vegetable choice. This small BYOB does it's seafood right. The clam strips were big and not too tough. No bellies, which suits me just fine, but no HoJo's either. We also enjoyed the fried flounder, a real treat. You could tell this was not the cook's first time at the deep fryer: the fish was crisp and flakey, not greasy in the least. So good and so NJ. The real achievement of the night was from the specials board: The Summer Salad. Lettuce, some pasta, tomatoes with a light dressing topped with grilled salmon, scallops and shrimp. My husband claimed it was the best salad he has ever eaten. Used to eat there every summer, and progressively gets more and more "modern". Used to be fresh open air porch with fans, cottage-like. Then AIR arrived. Arctic air conditioning with no sensitivity to outside temp. (I'll get to FOOD) Lighting used to be soft and ambient. Now floods, spots and un-subtle lineup Kliegs. Lobster is the best item. Simple. Mussels with it, often on the verge...chew with caution, swallow at own risk. Corn usually good. Tomatoes LOOK good but served chilled to 38F. Cold Jersey Toms???? Most other dishes very so so...try one and see. Wait is often long but if you get there about 4:30, you'll walk in. It is a BYOB, store at the corner so that's good. My family used to give it a 4-5 * rating. We don't go there any more. We used to go 5 times/summer for 20'years. Too bad. Was a good thing. Kelly's in Barnegat Light for seafood(BYOB) is incredible. read more

We placed a take out order from this restaurant for the first time in a long time. Despite the large order it was actually ready much quicker than we were told it would be. However, when we went to pay, we found that it is CASH ONLY. When my wife said she was surprised by this the attitude of the person helping us become rather snotty. We took the food home and, despite being less than a 300 yards from the restaurant, the soup was already cold. Fortunately, the other food was still hot. The food itself was above average for fried seafood platters and the swordfish was very good. The soup, once we heated it was the low spot f the meal; the Manhattan Clam Chowder was awful. read more

Excellent food. Great service, every time. We've been customers for several years, and summer just wouldn't be summer if we couldn't go to Shellfish for great fish, lobster and clams! We love the calamari vera cruz (just the right amount of spice) and the new appetizer, clams and mussels with garlic bread. With 40 years under their belt brothers John and Mike have continued to serve the freshest seafood on the Jersey shore. Some dishes like their Veracruz calamari appetizers are an automaticwhen we walk in the door with my son and daughter-in-law. Alright. Five stars because I love their history. The place has been around for a long time and for a good reason, great fresh local LBI gorgeous yum. First, if there's a wait, which there is prime time dinner time, the ring game outside will make you laugh in the parking lot while pre-gamin it with your house-made cocktails and plastic cups/beer. Okay on to dinner. No frills. Old-school dinner (I've been here many times). We need this stuff don't we. I don't need to go out for a designer dinner on LBI every time. We need these places for nostalgic reasons. You can't help but love butter soaking artery clogging, bring your pops, son, girlfriend, boyfriend bottle o' wine or better yet jug o' mixed cocktails kind of establishment. Harvey Cedars got it down. They got variety. They got ambiance. They got it. Just go. Yeah maybe Miss California is disappointed with her "butter" but she hasn't seen real butter in LA. The he soft shell crabs sautéed were delicious. The corn needed no butter or seasoning. The salmon dinner got a thumbs up and was plentiful. The fries were tasty and lots of them. By far the best restaurant on LBI!!! Been coming here for 15 years on summer vacations. Take out or eating in doesn't matter. The food is unreal and the experience is even better. The staff is friendly (we have had Patrick help us the whole 15 years) and attentive and the owners work just as hard as the staff to make sure you have the best time while eating there. Harvey Cedars Shellfish company is a legendary restaurant and a must go when you visit this beautiful summer town. I'm from baltimore so I know seafood and this place takes the cake for best seafood in town. The broiled scallops were cooked perfectly and the shrimp scampi was extremely succulent. I'm not sure what the big deal about this place is. This is our first dinner on LBI and if this is as good as it gets, I'll start eating at the cheaper places. There were four of us tonight, our orders ranging from simple (steamed mussels) to more complex (the pecan encrusted salmon). The results were a big "meh" until the bill arrived, upon which time it became a "you gotta be kidding". I think you'd be fine with simply cooked dishes--steamed lobster with drawn butter, etc--but meals that call for a finer touch don't get it here. My broiled flounder was exceedingly boring, as was my wife's salmon. The one highlight (why does this always happen with appetizers?) was the hot crab and artichoke dip with garlic toast. The entrees were just blah, and blah at $23 a plate doesn't work for me. This is a basic seafood restaurant that, because of its premium location, doesn't need to care a lot about the taste of its food. Not worth the money. read more

Tiny tables crammed together, and they have no coffee, tea, or any dessert, it seems like they want people to eat and get out of the way so they can turn over the tables. This has been our go to fresh seafood restaurant for the 14 years we've been enjoying living on LBI. We love everything about it, from the friendly and experienced staff to, of course, the food. We've eaten many of the menu items and especially like (in no particular order) the fried shrimp and scallops, salmon, swordfish, seafood combos, the refreshing summer salad, crabmeat stuffed shrimp and flounder and so on.
