If I could do it all over again, I would avoid purchasing a vehicle from Jared Harvey/Harvey Automotive.
The good:
* The communications, when available, were courteous.
* Initially, communications were very timely (setting up an appointment to see the vehicle).
* When my temporary tags/plate was stolen, he overnighted a new one, at his cost, to me.
The bad:
* The vehicle I bought, to start, was not detailed and was pretty filthy, even though there is a detailing shop on sight. The vehicle, I know, was on sight for at least one week (as I found it and made an appointment to see it, a week later).
* Talking to Jared, he said "I have selling vehicles down to a science", though later experience differed. I was told after signing Bill of Sale that I would not get my title 10-15 business days later via a holding company; a temp title was administered. What then seemed off/a bit alarming was Jared mentioning that they were not kept on sight due to insurance issues; this information seemed a bit out of place and alarming, but I trusted him to know his business, and took him at his word.
* I waited the 15 business days, and had not received the title. I reached out to Jared, first via phone and then via text, looking for an ETA. He mentioned he was detained on a family matter, and said he would reach out later that afternoon. I did not hear from Jared for 6 days, even after attempts to reach out to him a few days after he mentioned the family matter.
* When I finally spoke to him (6 days later), Jared did apologize in not getting back to me, but then mentioned that he did not have the title to the vehicle I had purchased, still waiting for the auction house to send it to him. I was not told this at the sale of the vehicle, there was no mention of an "attached" title. Selling a vehicle, without a title in possession, is illegal.
I was frustrated, but kindly asked him to reach out to me and let me know when I could see the title, as I would be traveling for several days, at the time the temp plate being void at that time, having reached the 45 day limit.
At this time, someone stole my temp plate, so Jared sent another (see above "the good" section).
* Jared at this time also mentioned he believed that the title had been held up because the auction house had misspelled something on the title, so it had to be sent back for correction. This is false.
* For the next two weeks, I again reached out several times to Jared, via text or phone call (with my call going directly to voice mail, which was often full, and when not, a message was left), and heard nothing. A simple "I am working on the issue, and this is the update" or "I'll be sure to let you know when I hear from them" would have been helpful.
* After the two weeks of no contact from Jared, I received a text message (leaving just one week before the end of the 45 days a dealer has to supply the title) with an image of the package/tracking number for the title. The title though, was sent to an incorrect address, and was sent back.
* The 45 day limit was reached, and two days later I got the title, which had then been sent to the correct address.
* Taking the Bill of Sale into the DMV, they noticed Jared had not completed some of the paperwork that he had even highlighted to complete. I hope this does not hold up being officially issued my copy of the title.
Overall, the issue was the lack of communication, and evasion throughout the experience, which was very frustrating and left me second guessing (to the point of calling the Utah vehicle enforcement for steps for possible recourse, which at least for Utah, the dealer has 45 days to get the title to you, heads up; I also reached out to a lawyer for potential legal help).
After the lack of communication and run around, I had lost faith certainly in Jared, but also in the vehicle being unsalable due to perhaps a lien or a branded title or other issue that had not been divulged at the sale, which lead to ideas that that may have been causing the title issue.
While Jared was courteous when initially meeting with him, and when communication was actually had, the remaining experience was all very concerning, and at the least, very unprofessional and certainly untrustworthy. I do not take leaving such a review lightly, please know, but would like to help another purchaser avoid the same possible frustration, and hours of time spent to correct an issue that could have certainly been easier to resolve. read more
