I've been on the hunt for some cheap supplies, specifically a pinback button machine as this is around $50-60 new online and since I'm using funds from the school club I'm in to buy it; this felt excessive. Unfortunately they didn't have this machine and apparently only have ones in stock like this once in a while as they tend to go fast. Not deterred, I kept exploring the rest of the shop. Price wise, this place is THE best craft store you can and should stop into before going elsewhere to see if they have supplies you could use. You name it; they have it or have had it in the past. Supply varies as they depend on donations but with some supplies I bought costing just a quarter, I truly cannot be mad. They had yarn, paper supplies, knitting supplies, beadwork items, sewing supplies including patterns and zippers and sewing feet, stationary and scrapbook/journaling supplies. This dude was so instantly nasty to me, dismissive, condescending, just awful. I literally don't even know what I did wrong but try and buy a stack of books and try to get a discount cos I was buying a whole stack! Never ever before met a rude person here in the twenty years I've been coming (since before ravens stadium was built and they were across the street). I've bought thousands of dollars worth of appliances here (2 $500 stoves, a $1000 fridge, two dishwashers, and two washers and dryers), not to mention hundreds upon hundreds worth of lumber, trim, windows, doors, miscellaneous hardware, etc. I bought 400 dollars worth of upholstery cloth one time alone. I come in, I don't mess around, I know what I need and I am a friendly nice customer. (Because they use your phone number when you buy, also? they should be able to SEE this). I was buying BOOKS. Books are not their main business (and to be honest their prices are so out of scale it's crazy compared to thrifts--10 dollars each for a used hard over cover book from the 80s? I think there was one vintage item or two--I collect golden book kids encyclopedias) In the past they've basically tried to GIVE me books I wanted to buy! I wasn't buying anything from the "special glass cases. I asked Josh what they could do for me on these 20 books that I promise no one wants. (I promise). I picked up so many cos I have always been given a little break on stuff here! It's literally the way I thought they do business!!!! Nope. Not a single red cent. Off ANY book EXCEPT one they wanted 20 dollars for that didn't cost 20 new! (No it was not old or vintage!) I had 100 bucks of books in my cart he couldn't do 80? He wouldn't even discuss it and when I was frankly totally taken aback by this since it's so counter to EVERY EXPERIENCE IVE HAD THERE FOR OVER 20 YEARS--he threatened to call security on me!? For trying to bargain?????? These were all crap books. I want them for myself and to show my husband AND I make art from them. I'd have paid literally 10 for every set of four of these books at thrift. They wanted 10 and 15 dollars EACH. It wasn't just he wouldn't deal at all on price. He treated me like a criminal for no reason at all. He had his hand on his walkie talkie and when I kind of laughed just thinking he was driving a bargain he said he was going to call security on me!!!! He did this because I had the temerity to say "come on, not any discount at all? I'm buying in bulk!" And I mentioned I've never had them not come down on price on anything ever! Over a year ago, I tried to donate my car to vehicles for change. I was expecting a tow truck to arrive at my house before work on a weekday, but no one came in the time window that was specified to me. The driver did call to say he was on his way, but only after the specified time window had passed, and after I had already left for work. So the tow truck driver said he would come at a different date and time. Of course, no one came at the newly scheduled time either, and the coordinator whom I'd been in contact with had had no idea about the newly scheduled pick up. I guess the tow truck driver didn't really have the authority and/or ability to commit to pick up times. I tried to convince my husband to hand over the car title during a more generous time window on a THIRD scheduled date, but he wasn't willing to deal with an organization that had already botched the pick-up twice, and I don't generally have enough weekday at-home ability to do it myself, so I gave up and found another organization to donate to. Of course they just started sending me their newsletter. Thanks for the reminder. I get it, I've worked at a public-facing nonprofit, and it's tough to organize well, so I hope they've improved since my experience, but I wouldn't recommend them to someone I knew.

I only happened to come across this business while surfing the MVA website looking for a place to donate my car. Here's where the business falls short and is hurting themselves: COMMUNICATION. On a Monday, I called to find out about the company and ask a few questions regarding the process for donation and what needed to be done with the MVA. I hit a brickwall with the receptionist and found that off-putting because as the general public's first point of contact, you should be the first tier of knowledge for everything related to the business. Clueless receptionist then forwarded me to the voicemail of the administrator in charge of donations. One day, two day, infinity days go by, never heard from her at all. I called back two days later on Wednesday and this happened to speak with a woman who's name I can't recall (Valerie or Vicky perhaps?) who not only was a pleasure to speak with but told me all about the history of the organization and what it does for the community. She even provided me with the Facebook page and invited me to a grand opening of a new location so that I could see more of what VFC was about. Now THIS is the type of person that should be handling the calls! The helpful woman then put me in touch with Bill who was the towing coordinator. While Bill was a pleasure to speak with, it seemed like there was a communication gap between him and his towing team because on the scheduled day of tow, I never received a call when the tow men were coming to get the car and when they did call it was 2 minutes before the department closed and I had already left work. When I returned the missed call from them within 15 minutes they'd advised me it was too late to get my car (which I'm not sure why that was because they'd never gotten the address from me so it wasn't like they were in my area and had already left). I'll also state that I initially reached out to the company via their website to acquire more information. It wasn't until a full week and a half had went by and I had already dealt with everyone that I received responses to my email inquiry. My word of advice to VFC: While it is great that you may be so busy with donations for needy families that it becomes difficulty to maintain communication, understand that each missed opportunity to provide follow-up is a lost car for another family member. I strongly suggest manning your office with more staff. As a non-profit I'm sure you can hire some high schoolers that need service hours (translation FREE LABOR). Because of the gap in communication with your company and my short window to get rid of the vehicle to terminate the insurance premiums, I wound up donating the car to another cause.

I could sit by a loud water feature for hours. The wedding was in the garden, but the facility had prepared the Veranda in case the rain didn't clear up. Howard County Conservancy…read more We'll walk you to see the biggest beaver dam in Howard County Conservancy. Are you excited? Let's walk with us to the Wetlands trail! First you walk from the parking lot to the old barn, you can see it's located by the entrance roadside, and once you get there, walk down the trail, and keep going. You'll be in sort of intersection on your left but we won't turn left here, keep walking and you'll see a walking path *watch on your right with a (ruined) stone gate alike. Walk across the stone gate, turn left and walk for around 10-15 foot steps and turn right, and keep walking until you'll see a sign of small pond on your left, then you're on the right path. You can walk closer to the pond through the short path on your left (that's what we did) and watched any movement around the water, and we found a turtle from here! Or, you can continue walking down the previous path until you see a bridge on your left. From the bridge, you'll see the biggest beaver dam was created along the water line. How cool is that? Another coolest thing was, we bumped into THE BEAVER!! Aaaahhhh!?! Yeeessss!?! We explored and walked back to the trail and found wineberries patch and mulbery tree, so we stopped there and enjoy the berries! *check your left while walking up the hill. Along the walk, we also found A Story Walk, a Demonstration Garden next to Nature Play Scene, a sleeping Eastern Screech Owl, goats house and chickens house. That's a wrap for our good hike today!
