    Chicken strips and okra

Don't recommend the okra. It looks burnt. Last time it wasn't as overdone but very salty. This time it is way overdone. Chicken strips are good.

Food is on point as is the service. Dining area and buffet are clean and well appointed.

Today, I was supposed to meet a client at Main 101 in La Porte, but renovations sent us wandering in search of Plan B. That's how we ended up at Wooden Spoon & Bakery--a place that, at first glance, promised fresh bread, pastries, and the kind of comfort food that usually comes with a side of nostalgia. I walked in thinking I'd order a salad. Then something happened. From the host who greeted us to our waitress and the rest of the staff, there was an infectious excitement about the day's special: a simple cheeseburger. No gimmicks. No towering masterpiece held together with a steak knife. Just a cheeseburger made with confidence. Their enthusiasm was enough to change my mind. Naturally, I added onion rings. If you know me, you know that's never a difficult decision. What arrived at the table was one of those rare moments that reminds you why neighborhood restaurants still matter. Five onion rings, each one the size of a small planet, wrapped in a thick, beautifully seasoned crust that was impossibly crisp. Peppery. Salty. Rich. The kind of crust that shatters with every bite before giving way to sweet, perfectly cooked onion. They weren't trying to reinvent anything. They just happened to make the best onion rings I've ever eaten. And I wasn't expecting to discover them in a small restaurant tucked away in La Porte, Texas. The cheeseburger was exactly what it should be: honest, satisfying, and the perfect companion to those unforgettable rings. What made the meal even better was the hospitality. Before we left, the manager, the chef, and several members of the staff all stopped by to make sure everything was right. It wasn't rehearsed hospitality--it felt genuine, the kind that makes you want to come back before you've even paid the bill. Sometimes the best meals aren't found in famous cities or trendy restaurants. Sometimes they're hiding in plain sight, waiting behind an ordinary storefront in a town you've driven through a hundred times. If you ever find yourself in La Porte, Texas, do yourself a favor: stop by Wooden Spoon & Bakery. Order the onion rings. You can thank me later.

Headed to The Wooden Spoon with Mom and the Missus for lunch. This time I had the Cheeseburger and…read moreFries. Our server was nice and relaxed. She was quick with our drinks and let us look at the menu for a few more minutes. Mom had the Green Tomato BLT, the Missus had the club sammich. But enough about their meals ... I want to review my meal. Their menu lists that the burger is on a brioche bun ... check that one off of the item list. A hearty patty is also placed inside of the bun and along with it are pickles, lettuce, onion and tomato. Check and double Check. Mayo is slathered on the buns, at just the right amounts that make it taste good, but not so much that it slides the innards of the burger all over the place making the chomping experience mushy. Flavors were good, I had just hoped the patty fit the bun a little better. The ratio was a bit more bun sided than oatty sided. My fries, crinkle cut, were seasoned well. Well enough that no ketchup was needed to dip them into for additional flavor. I would have liked a bit more crispiness from a double fry, but these were toothy enough to get a decent mouth feel. The meal for the three of is was about 47.00, so inflation has also hit my hometown dining places as bad as they have hit my current home near The Woodlands. Will i return to eat there the next time I visit Mom? If she wants to go, then yes, yes I would. I would also hit it alone just for their chicken fried steak or chicken. Ciao, Darrell

I really want this place to make it here in LaPorte but I'm hoping they will improve the bar menu. Their drinks are just not good. Last time I had a Mai Tai and a Bushwacker, this time a Tito's vodka and cranberry and a margarita. The Bushwacker was like a snow one or a dessert, however the other 3 tasted of no alcohol at all. Tonight the vodka and cranberry was very small and tasted like watered down juice. The margarita tasted like pure limeade juice from the grocery store with nothing mixed in it. I wish they would spend some time coming up with some yummy cocktails. The bottled beer even tasted flat as if it had been cold, then warm then cold again. However, we did have a good server.

Not sure why , waiter said we weren't gonna be rushed but he stood around the entire night and the kitchen guy pretty much closed the kitchen after we got our food so it was just a terrible experience overall , which is a shame because this place has always been good

It took 10 minutes to place the order since no one would come to the intercom to take order. Then after ordering 2 wraps, yes (2) it took another 25 mins to receive my order. They had me pull around to the front to bring my order out. They never came, and low and behold I see the manager bringing out another order to a car that was behind me! How did they get their food before me and I was first? Cayden, one of the team workers gave me my food after I came in to get it! He said they have only 2 people working, Him and the manager. So, Thomas, the general manager it looks like you make the schedules here. Wake up sir! Get your act together! You can do better! If you have no one to work, hire someone, or you go to your store and work yourself! Yes, YOU! I will not come back here! The last time I came, same issue, took forever to get my food. And I only order 1 or 2 items. This is a ridiculous, hilarious joke of a restaurant!
