So lucky to have found this small town gem! And when the entire Silver Lake area closes down at 11pm, this place is open until midnight. We were ecstatic to walk in a little late our first night in town around 11:40pm but the bartender and kitchen staff were extremely nice, didn't rush us and provided outstanding customer service (I mean let's face it...most places you walk in so close to close you are told you cannot stay to eat or they have already closed down...definitely not the case here!) Their pizza is outstanding. Reminds me of A New York slice of pizza. It's so good you just can't stop eating. they also have sandwiches and pasta. I tried the pasta on the second night and oh man, it was great!! Very clean. Awesome food. Good music. Full bar. Awesome staff...can't get better than this place for a small town. This will definitely be our go-to dinner spot on our return trip (it was our first trip...dinner two nights in a row!!) Thank you Hart's pizza for welcoming us out-of-towners. I would normally give Hart Pizza 4 stars however our service was less than average. We didn't have to wait long for our table which was great, our table was clean and the hostess was super friendly and nice. Our server wasn't rude or anything but just did not seem happy to be working and did not seem to be up to par as the other severs. It took a very long time to get our drinks, we were both super thirsty! I asked for water multiple times, even though we noticed that the other server was bringing water to his tables as soon as they were sat. We noticed that the other servers tables were receiving their food and beverages much quicker as well. Our food was good, but not out of this world, we ordered the caprice salad and a pizza. The salad we probably won't get again and the pizza we would probably try again but most likely get take out unless we are camping in the area and have rain. Again this was not an awful experience just not great. Our server reminded me of someone who just didn't want to be there...perhaps he had a bad day and with restaurants being short staffed maybe he had a long day...but I don't feel like we received a smile. This place is sooo good!! We are from out of state and tried Hart Pizza based on the positive Yelp reviews. We are so glad that we did! We ordered a large pizza (1/2 plain cheese and 1/2 spinach, fresh mushrooms, onions, sausage, and a goat cheese/mozzarella blend of cheese). It was absolutely delicious - the goat cheese was amazing and not overpowering at all. They use very fresh, tasty ingredients and the dough was fantastic. Not too thin, not too thick with excellent flavor. They wait to toss it until you order your pizza and everything tasted fresh and delicious! We also had a garden salad made with romaine & iceberg topped with peppers, onions & a sprinkling of cheese. It was served with ranch dressing that was sort of garlicky and really tasty. Even though Lynn took great care of us, we were surprised that on the third of July, this northern Michigan restaurant next to Silver Lake Sand dunes was understaffed. No fault to Lynn, she was running around and very pleasant. Management, if you know you are short-staffed, let people know at the beginning. In house made dough with fresh ingredients served piping hot. Second visit started with buffalo chicken dip and fresh breadsticks also made from the in-house dough. Spicy, but not overly. This is easily the best pizza we've found in the area. The crust is thick enough to give the slices body but the dough is light and not too chewy. We ordered the garlic breadsticks. Personally, they could have used more garlic, but were fine. Not being a fan of iceberg lettuce, we asked for our salads to be romaine only. With food this exceptional, management should consider having fresh spinach or kale available for those prefer more nutrition. Our pizza was sausage, spinach, jalapeño, fresh mushrooms and a blend of mozzarella and goat cheese. It was fantastic. We sat at the bar and chatted with the staff who were friendly and prompt. Closing we enjoyed the strawberry shortcake. It did not disappoint. Lastly, for those who prefer red wine with Italian food, Hart Pizza actually has good choices; something most restraunts in the region lack. We will be back. read more
