First, the good things. The food was really good! We started with the brisket nachos and a soft pretzel with cheese. We all commented on how good they were. Then, we went on to asparagus bites and chicken wings. The asparagus bites were perfectly crispy and really nice. The chicken wings were cooked perfectly and even without sauce were delicious. Others in our party had burgers, wraps, a Caesar salad, and macaroni and cheese for the kids. I had a watermelon cooler made with their own vodka. It was a good, refreshing, summer drink. The others had a decent amount of beer and everyone was happy. The ambiance was good and just what we were looking for. We wanted something casual and family friendly, and this definitely fit the bill. However, there were some things that weren't so great. When we got there, there was a sign at the hostess desk that said the wait for food would be 45 minutes. OK, no problem, we appreciated knowing that right up front. It's summer, places are busy, and often there isn't enough staff to go around. When we were seated, we were told to order either by using the QR code, or by going up to a counter at the back of the restaurant. There really isn't full table service, but more like runners bringing out food. We all decided what we wanted and used the QR code to enter everything in our order. But when we tried to complete the order, we just kept getting an error. When one of our party finally went up to the counter to see why we were having an issue with the process, they told us that they had shut down the online ordering because they were too busy. After putting in our order at the counter, we were told that now the wait for food would be an hour. OK, we order some more drinks. Finally, an hour and a half later, we got our food. It was good, and everyone was happy with their meals, but we started dinner at 6:30 because we had kids with us, and by the time the meals came one of them was already asleep. Even if we hadn't had kids with us, an hour and a half is too long to wait for meals to come. I would go back again, because the food really was good. But it probably won't be during high season. read more

We came in and sat at the bar around 3:30pm Saturday May 10th. Bar was not busy. It took a little bit of time to be noticed by the girl behind the bar. She took our order, gave us our drinks then onion rings and fried pickles. After that she disappeared. We didn't see her again until our drinks were gone and I asked one of the other girls fir a to go box. She never checked back with us. She never asked someone else to take care of us. I paid with a credit card and left a dollar tip. When she discovered it, I heard her say "nice" like she was disgusted with her tip. She's lucky I left a dollar. She's the same girl who was quite rude to us when we were there earlier this year. I don't know her name but it was not the tall blonde. This girl signed in under Phillip. Ticket #105 5-10-25 3:57pm. There is RV parking here, hooray! Alas though, there aren't cans to bring home if you're passing through. Big Heart has you buy a glass growler (32 oz, $8) or howler (64 ounce, $10), plus the beer inside. Glass and weight aren't the RV preference at all, but the beer itself is tasty, as were our Ruben and pulled pork sandwiches. The place is adorable, and they sell swag to remember your stop. The food good, and the beer very tasty, and the staff were friendly. Both sandwiches and fries were yummy, but make sure you yourself grab napkins, salt, and ketchup inside since none of the three were in our bag (non-negotiable Big Hart!). Yes, you need to ask for these. With RV parking, this place would make an awesome Harvest Host site, and we'd happily come back and make an night of it. If you're already in town, this would be an adorable lunch/dinner spot. read more

The highlight here is their drinks. It's a brewery, duh! Food: Big burger with the works + grilled onions, mushrooms and olives is satisfying and delicious! Homemade kettle chips are dark tan (matching the beers), not greasy and fantastic! Drinks: Oktoberfest is quite good though a little bitter for me even at an alleged 21 IBU. Tastes more like 30+ IBU. The lager is much lighter (and easily drinkable), despite its gorgeous coppery hue. Spicy Canadian style whiskey is smooth with the bite of rye. Service: You serve yourself basically, they bring it to you but you order at the counter. Ambiance: Cozy and woody, pretty typical up north interior displaying beautiful woodsy photos, homie and comfy brick walls for the most part and a pretty square paneled wooden ceiling. Fun front porch area with gas-fueled fire pit tables, which we didn't use because it's afternoon and "warm" for an "up North" September. The nippy atmosphere is chilly this time of year, but perfect and expected for Northern Michigan. Great place for drinks and a burger! read more

I am in awe of the whining reviews out there! So you have to get your own silverware and order at the Bar- this is so minor for the top quality level of this Chef Managed Kitchen establishment - just get over it or go somewhere else. They clearly communicate the process of ordering etc. it's very simple. This restaurant, like hundreds of others, survived a brutal Pandemic that froze everyone's ability to hire staff easily. Big Hart has wisely maintained a mid size menu from the beginning, and every item is fresh and high quality. This is not where you go if you want a big plate of fried food. Their salads are excellent as are their burgers, sandwiches and the Chef's daily home made soup is always delicious. I am a picky "foodie" and this is one of my favorite places to dine - we take our adult kids and grandkids often. You won't be sorry- put this place on your list! read more

Very chill and local spot to grab a couple of Beers. We were able to get spot at counter within a couple minutes. Waitress was very knowledgeable about their specialty beers. First time going here after passing it probably hundreds of times on our way up north. Because of Covid-19 they have put in some limitations, which I appreciate!! You do have to seat yourself, then you have to place your order in the back of the brewery. If you get a drink you have to go back to the front bar to pick up. Waitstaff does bring food to you. We sat on the patio and although it was windy, it was nice! Tables are very spaced out right now. The food was delicious!!! Pulled pork sandwich came on a fresh brioche bun with a side of coleslaw (upcharge). Maybe not the best pork but definitely a good sandwich. The Rueben was HUGE and great! Corned beef was cooked perfectly and sliced thin. Each bite was juicy and full of flavor! Served with a side of homemade chips. This meal was enough for me and my son to split. Get the queso dip. Add brisket. You'll thank me later! We practically liked the bowl clean! Served with a side of crispy baked pitas. They have a variety of $6 cocktails in addition to their own brewed root beer and beers. I had a cherry wheat which was really good! Time are different now and restaurants adapt. I'm glad they didn't have a ton of waitstaff walking all over and people crossing paths constantly. I did not mind ordering my own food or drinks. The place got our business! read more

This was our first and last experience at this establishment. The first strike against them is the noise level. Apparently on Tuesdays they have a trivia night with a local DJ. No where on their website does it say that Tuesdays are trivia days, so be warned. Second strike is their lack of waitstaff. They were packed, and I only saw two waitresses. And while our waitress was nice enough, she was stretched thin by the sheer number of guests she had to accommodate. Third strike is the food. My soup was nothing special (French Onion, and the waitress DID warn me), but the worst was the NY Strip steak ordered by another member of my party. She requested the steak to be cooked "well, well done with no pink". She sent it back twice and her steak was still very pink (see photos). Did I mention the cost? It actually wasn't bad. $66 plus tip for four adults and a four year old. The shining star of the evening was the glass of sweet white wine I ordered prior to my meal. It was a rainy summer night so we decided to hang out close to our hotel for dinner. We drove by this place when were checking out the town so we decided to give it a try. It was a Friday night in the summer, so we had to wait an hour for our table, but we actually went back to our hotel and they called us when our table was ready, which worked perfectly! We sat outside on their spacious patio. Our server, Nicole, was extremely friendly and was very honest about the kitchen being backed up (which actually wasn't an issue at all). They had a good choice of their own beers - we tried the blonde ale. It was perfect for a warm summer evening. There were a lot of great choices on the menu. We had the onion rings as an appetizer and they came with a great garlic aioli sauce. We tried several of the soups - chicken enchilada, French onion and the cheddar ale - all of them were delicious. We also had a couple of salads which were quite good too. My daughter, the queen of carbs, got the hot pretzel, with the cheddar ale soup as a dip - brilliant idea! We topped it all off with the HUGE and yummy chocolate cake. Definitely a good choice for our first night in town! read more

Overall it was a meh. We were there on 8/21/2021 early afternoon. Service was great. The food...ok. A bit pricey though. Mac and cheese was $12 and did not taste like mild cheddar. Don't really care for sharp cheddar and since it didn't specify, I didn't think to ask. It needed lots of salt. Also had a burger and was missing seasoning but overall was good. So here we are over 3 years later and we found ourselves back here. What a change.. Extremely busy which was great to see. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing the French fries had gone cold and were like rubber as they had been reheated. I had the brisket cheese steak.The steak was just shredded roast beef no flavor and my bun was all soggy. My husband paid $5 for a brisket on top of his burger and got what he thought was roast beef..if you offer brisket please cook it right especially when you are expecting something yummy..
