We stopped in for a quick breakfast. It was not quick. We were there for an hour and a half - and spent about twenty minutes actually eating. This wouldn't be a cause for complaint except that our server behaved as though our presence was an inconvenience to her. She flatly refused to customize two out of the three orders that were requested, dropped off two menus for a party of 7, and couldn't say if the kitchen had actual half. I had a tuna melt here that was covered in butter and mayo. I was surprised to see there was no lettuce or tomato. It still tasted good but I wasn't expecting the free hand lotion (aka all of the butter) or the lack of anything fresh. Someone else at my table had a salad that was mostly iceberg lettuce. She said it tasted fine but the low quality was disappointing. Our experience was meh. It could have been a lot worse but we probably won't be back. read more

We stop here every year on our way to get in line for the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. We only get the fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy. Basic stuff. Wow... what happened? This used to be the "must go to" place for take out fish & chicken around here... now.. NO WAY! Called in an order of chicken (8pc) Saturday while getting groceries w/ my son. Got it quick and real hot... was even still hot when we got it home (15 minute drive and a stop for Gasoline) BUT: when we opened the pack, the outside was nearly burnt to a crisp and the deep insides were not near done. meat was slimy, rubbery and smelled/tasted like fish. Either they really over-heated the oil and used it over and over for fish- or this chicken had "turned" prior to cooking. Gave them a call immediately. Their reply "oh- sorry.. I'll let em know in the kitchen"... then hung up! No offer to get different batch or money back etc... Did you guys lose your cook AND your management???? read more

We were visiting from out of town and came here when the cafe in Rothbury was packed. The food was great for what it was and was super affordable. The staff was very nice to us, so I'm not sure about everyone else's experiences. We hadn't eaten a good meal in awhile, so we were hungry and ordered a bunch of food. Their fried chicken really is delicious; I recommend that first. The basic breakfast was good, but it was small (small bread & only 2 pieces of bacon). It's ok though in my opinion because it was only $7. I ordered some extra bacon and my girlfriend got the chicken fried steak. They have their meals priced pretty cheap and then their side orders are priced fairly if you want more food. It could be a little better with the sizes of the meals, but I have no real complaints because it served us well. It's an old school joint that cooks breakfast all day, which is what we really needed. Don't expect it to be your favorite spot and it will suit you just fine. read more

Waited over an hour for breakfast and nothing came. Got a little concerned when another group walked out saying they had waited an hour and a half. Ended up walking out without getting any food. Waitress came over and said, "We're getting ready to cook your order, so if you're going to leave, now would be the time." She was very rude and did not offer to comp coffee and milk we'd had while waiting; floor manager was flustered at the kitchen and just waved us off, told us to just leave and not pay. read more

The waitress, named Pat I believe from what the cook said, was unbelievably rude, getting snippy at our family for her mess up in writing down the orders, giving us the incorrect sizes for the drinks, and for food coming out on wrong plates. We informed her of this and she told us that we just need another plate to fix it, neglecting to get us the plate we needed. We had hair in our tomatoes, overcooked fries, overcooked gizzards, and I had never until today seen only 1 piece of bacon on a bacon cheeseburger. There was no manager or owner there for anyone in our group of five to inform of the issues we were coming across, and the only other worker there we did speak to tried siding with the waitress that the problems there were "our" fault. I'd rather not go there again, was actually ready to walk out with the rest in the first 5 minutes. read more

Excellent menu, great food, nice people. It's always tough to decide what to get; it all sounds like just the thing I'd like to have RIGHT NOW. And not just your typical diner stuff but more aggressive diner stuff in the way of interesting breakfasts, burgers, sandwiches, chicken, fish and sides. All very reasonably priced. And it is some good stuff, served up hot. Chicken is a specialty, but they whip up their own pulled beef and turkey...in fact, nothing really tastes like it's out of a can. Roast beef melt is excellent, so is the quesadilla burger. My Folks have been coming for breakfast for a few years and never leave disappointed. As for the service, it's warm and fast. The regulars are greeted heartily, but we out-of-towners feel just as appreciated. Now, if they could only offer the fried asparagus for more of the summer, I might think about that 5th star. I worked for Diane as a dishwasher. I never got tipped for bussing tables and I was mainly the only one doing it . When I would bus tables they would stand around or Diane would sit at tables with costumers why everyone else did the work. I've seen so much behind the kitchen that no one else as a costumer has seen the cooks have dropped peoples food; example omelets or a piece of toast on the floor and STILL SERVE IT. How unsanitary you would think. Diane is nice to your face until you work for her. She treats her grandkids that work there like gods as she treats her other employees that work there like they are garbage when her employees should be treated the same family or not. The kitchen area is always dirty. They don't ever clean the pans they bake their bread in everything there is just so unsanitary would not recommend working here or even probably eating here. also her husband Gary is a creep he would follow me around the restaurant everywhere I would go or even when teens would come in I feel like he would just stand out in the dining area and stare for the longest time possible. Not many choice in Hart to chose from as far as food. This was a comfortable 50's style diner. Our server was very sweet. There was only one cook. Food came out at a decent speed. For being a divey little breakfast/bar food with no alcohol, "That Place" was a little pricier than I expected. But affordable. The soup was weird. Ham and Potato. I expected creamy soup but it was in a broth. It was 4.49 for a cup. I got a croissant egg/ham/cheese sandwich that came with hash browns. This was very good. I will not return. But if I lived in the small town of hart were options are limited, I would eat here often. read more

This is a burger joint with a 50s diner ambiance. Their fried chicken is also awesome. Don't order anything else; this is a burger joint. I'm not sure who trains their wait staff; I think no one. A tad odd that you enter the restaurant from the back. Cute attempt on nostalgic 50/60's decor. Menu had many basic americana fare. Walking into the place the aroma of the fried chicken was wonderful. I would have ordered their all you could eat wing dings but I was on a mission to have liver and onions to celebrate my mom's birthday. Where this place lacks is in trained servers and efficient cooks. Nice waiters but way too long to greet and get me a menu and during meal very little table maintenance. Local eateries like too many other places as well need to train and monitor proper wait skills. Luckily I already knew what to order as I looked online. It took over 30 minutes to prepare the meal. Liver and onions should be a quick turnaround. But I suspect the cooks receive no more training then the front of the house. All the tables around me were experiencing slow service. That is why this place is 3 stars at best. Food was tasty with a homemade flavor. Just what I was looking to enjoy. So stop by if you have time otherwise try another place in Hart. read more

Concur with Peter F. Very solid offerings -- especially from the breakfast menu. There's little to choose from in the Hart, Michigan area, so this place is a pleasant little oasis. It doesn't look like much from the outside and that's a pity because it's actually in really good shape inside. We are staying at Silver Lake for the week and were a little disappointed in the local restaurants. Some are only open on the weekends. An internet search found That Place and it had an interesting menu, so we gave it a shot. The food was very good in what felt like a family owned business. They have a unique menu that you should check out at http://www.thatplacerestaurant.com . They have tables that can be easily moved together and a few already set up to 8 if you have a larger group. There is a large sign out front that says "Chicken to Go" that may make you think that's the name of the place. We liked it. read more

Decided to try this place one morning after repeated poor experiences at places in the Silver Lake tourist section. Pleasant surprise overall. The food was good, one of us chose a hamburger, another chose an omelette, another a breakfast plate. No one disappointed. A rather nice lady served us and was attentive. Food and service were not very impressive. I wanted onions in my american fries and was told I couldn't because they only deep fry them. But they do the hash browns on the griddle. The first time I went there I got the american fries with onion on the griddle though. The food is very average and nothing special at all. Probably the worst I've had in the area. I'm willing to pay for good food and tip for good service. I didn't get either. read more
