This place just opened in the old River Street Station location and it's now my favorite place around town. Authentic Mexican food and drink in a very cool "Day of the Dead" style atmosphere. Awesome custom murals and decorations inside. It was totally empty when we walked in at 3pm on a Wednesday (to be expected) so we got 1 on 1 service at the bar. Food was super fresh and made to order. The freshly fried taquitos with super fresh veggies were awesome, and the tequila drinks were solid. I'll go here again the first chance I get. I feel like some restaurants in Manistee think they're fancy but are just overpriced and the food isn't very good (lookin' at you Golden Stag and Blue Fish). Then you have second tier food at Taco Bout It, Fricanos and North Channel. The food at these places almost seem like the quality of "theme park food" (generic and not very fresh). This place, IMO, is a big step forward. Fresh and authentic, probably family-owned (that was the vibe I got), with a great atmosphere (they were jammin' some modern Mexican music videos on the tv over the bar, which is WAY better than places that play ESPN or some political news channel). I predict that, if they can last until summer and have a good business-minded owner, they'll be jam packed all summer long. Or at least I hope so because I want it to be here, and be thriving, each time we visit Manistee!

The food at this location was excellent but as happens so often they slipped, quality portion size and service all tanked. So I started eating at several of the other locations including the alpine location and just this past week I visited the FREMONT location. I am again happy with loco burrito. First off I had the tamales....they tend to be my benchmark of good mex. while not the greatest, they were well made, very large, and the sauce was e cel lent. A little heavy on the masa nut would rather have that than a skinny anorexic tamale. The food after that improved...I ordered everything a la carte. The burrito was excellent as were the chicken ecchiladas...the chicken was lean tender not dry and well portioned. I happened to be there on a Tuesday where they have .99 cent hard and soft tacos...I took 2 of each in chicken and beef and they were by far the best .99 tacos I have ever had. Also the chorizo and cheese appetizer fantastic. And the salsa verde...which I tend apply over liberally to too many dishes- was excellent A few negatives.... Overall the spice factor needs to be ramped up across the board.... The salsa that came with the chips ( which were good) was water blandNess. I expect that this lack of spice is typical outside of Mexican vilage area in GR as need to dull it down for local palates. Everything is claimed to be made from scratch on site so in the future I will just ask to spice it up. The tequila selection was extremely limited for a Mexican joint.....and would hope to get a decent pour when spending $10.00 a shot. Based on how meticulous it was measured expect the bartender was a chemistry major. Speaking of the bartender I will spare adding her name but this individual had neither sampled 95% of the menu nor frankly knew the difference between an enchilada and a burrito....so the staff needs training on what they sell and serve. They did carry Bohemia, my favorite Mexican brew so thumbs up for that! And note to the manager, break down and shell out the $20 for a plastic toilet seat. The fiberboard seat which was falling apart is a haven for germs and really downgrades what was otherwise a very clean and tidy washroom facility Bottom line, I am back to being a burrito loco fan - at least in FREMONT. I won't be doing my drinking there- at least not my tequila drinking- but will most definitely be back for some great takeout

The masa was soft and not dry at all, and the tamales held together well. The ratio of filling to masa was good due to the smaller size, and the pork was tender and flavorful. These weren't super spicy but had a little kick to them. We were offered a cup of verde salsa, which was the perfect accompaniment. I'm really excited to check out Navarro's restaurant the next time we're in Muskegon. They have been family owned and operated for nearly 45 years, and with tamales this good, I can see why!

We showed up anticipating placing a takeout order, assuming a short wait, and that's what we got. The neighborhood was a little bit iffy, with bars on the windows of the building, and there was really no parking lot, so street parking only. It's very small inside with an order/pickup Window and no seating. There's a big menu on the wall with pictures, and paper menus to read and/or take with you. The lady working was very very helpful with recommendations, explaining dishes, and helping us to decide what to order. Fantastic customer service. The food came out EXTREMELY fast. I actually couldn't believe it was already our order. We got an array of items and everything was pretty good. We got the Panchita, which was like loaded nachos, and it was good, but being takeout, it was soggy by the time we ate it. The spicy tamales were good but dry, and I would probably try those again. The burrito was VERY good - and the green salsa was delicious!
