Legit. Homemade everything. Don't sleep on this spot. Stopped on our way out from camping at Silver Lake. Carnitas, pollo, y lengua gorditas were sooooooo delicious. Fresh salsa y limones with everything. We got some frozen mango y leche bars tambien. So refreshing! Lots of baked goods en la tienda. Maybe its because its off season?? I don't know... their full menu from on yelp was NOT available - the prices for the limited menu were 30% higher on the chalk board as compared to the yelp menu - ouch. The ingredients had good taste but the quantity was lacking. 2 Tortas: one Chicharron and one carnitas; if each torta had 3 ounces of meat i'd be shocked especially as compared to the HUGE bun. Shredded iceberg, paper thin tomatoes, 2 avocado wedges, 2 jalapeno strips NO mayo and NO fries (like the yelp menu states). The Chicharron was 'breaded something' and not a true chicharron. The bread was about 70% of the torta and the other ingredients were not enough to keep the torta from tasting overly dry with all the bread. All ingredients were mostly fresh - thus the 2 out of 5. The place was clean and has potential, but shortcutting the quantity, the lack of fries and jacking the price is not acceptable. I won't be back. read more

We stopped today, did a little grocery shopping. They have baked goods from Tres Hermanos, always good, we also picked up dried chilies, mole sauce and some maseca. We decided to have a light lunch and each of us had a gordita, one pollo, one carnitas, one barbacoa, all were good. The best item, though, was the arroz y frijoles. The beans were perfectly cooked and still saucy, just right to mix in with the rice and enough cheese to make a string between the spoon and your mouth. My husband and I chanced upon this place while on vacation in Pentwater. Great little Mexican joint tucked into the back of a Latin American grocery store on N Oceana Drive, from the road the place looks desolate and closed, but don't be fooled, it's open and delicious tacos beckon! Yay for awesome ethnic food in the ethnic-food desert that is Oceana County! After we ordered, the kitchen brought out two delicious salsas, one smoked ancho salsa and one spicy tomatillo (salsa verde), with home-made tortilla chips. We had some delicious tacos, the carnitas was amazing, the tripe could have been deep-fried a little longer but no matter, it was suitably funky as tripe can often be, and tasty shrimp gorditas. The salsas went wonderfully with the food. On the way out, picked up some delicious and cheap Latin American groceries, including produce, mangoes for $0.65/each, limes for $0.10/each! Great little place, will definitely be back when we're in the area again next summer. read more

La Mexicana de Pancho - a plate with chips and a bag of chips - Mexican Near Me - Hart, Michigan

This is a fairly typical authentic Mexican-style lunch counter designed for people familiar with Mexican food as it is served and prepared in Mexico. If you were looking for the Taco Bell, this is NOT it. You'll find a full-service Mexican grocery inside this dingy old building. When we came in on a Thursday at lunchtime the husband (presumably Pancho) was sitting outside in the van, and he got out and came inside with us. His wife was mopping the concrete floor. The TV was blaring a Mexican soap opera. Their small child was sitting on the floor behind the counter reading comics. We ordered tacos at $1.50 each. They come on soft maize (corn) tortillas, with cilanto y cebollo (onions). Choices of taco include al pastor, pollo, bifstec, tripa, and others. Excellent tacos, authentic hot sauces served in two bowls, served with a lime wedge. This is not a place to take your prom date, but it is good food, reasonably priced, and if you have ever eaten lunch in Ensenada, Baja California, then this place brings you right back there. read more

La Mexicana de Pancho is housed in a nondescript white building on the south side of Hart. Don't be fooled by the exterior. Good things await inside! A modestly-sized Mexican grocery store is at the front of the building as you enter. It is very clean and *extremely* well stocked! It contrasted sharply with La Probadita in town, which has really fallen off, in that respect. There are large bags of drier peppers of all kinds, a fine selection of candies, traditional baked goods, and lots of imported packaged foods. Mangos and other fresh produce are available, as well! The restaurant space is at the back, separated by a wall with windows. I really liked this touch, making the food service area its own little business within a business. There were quite a few very clean tables and serviceable white chairs in the seating area, and even a window that looks outside. (Note to the owners - it could use a cleaning, and maybe a few flowers outside.) The food was outstanding, everything you might want from gorditas, to tacos, etc., with a full range of fillings. We ordered beef, pork, and el pastor (a seasoned pork) gorditas, as well as chips & salsa. The two salsa bowls were ENORMOUS! The chips, however, were overly salted, commercial, and half of the small quantity we were given was little broken pieces. I also realized later that we were charged additional for chip & salsa, which was unfortunate. The less-hot of the two was still pretty kicky, too much for my seven-year-old lunch companion, who is quite an adventurous eater. This could be improved by providing a more mild option and providing real homemade chips in decent quantity and size. I'd trade smaller bowls of salsa for a complementary price, too. We didn't come close to eating all of it and it seemed a shame to leave behind. The gorditas were excellent, freshly made on the grill behind the counter. The beef and el pastor varieties were excellent - we'd get them again in a second. The pork/carnitas filling was meh, just pork and not very interesting. We liked the fresh onion and cilantro filling and the lime wedges offered were very generous. The clientele was strictly Mexican, not overrun with tourists at all. A very well-dressed gentleman and his four well-dressed children came in for a late lunch while we were there, so clearly the place is well respected in the local Mexican community. On the whole, it was an excellent experience and a worthy competitor to La Probadita. If they would comp the chips & salsa and bring back the fresh chips others have mentioned here, I'd give it five stars! read more

Called to place an order and used the online menu here on yelp. Employee took our order over the phone and told us it would be ready in 20-25 minutes. Went to the store to pick up and the first employee said they don't make that there. Next employee said "we only make tacos and burritos" so they simply elected to not make our order or contact us despite having an extensive online menu. read more

Don't let the outward appearance scare you off. I'm a Southern California native and know my Mexican food. The tacos here are as authentic as you can get. Very filling and meaty. The salsas are incredible, too. The green tomatillo is eye watering hot but awesome (I have a habit of scooping the maximum possible amount of salsa on my chips no matter how hot it is) and the red is more mild, but still with excellent flavor. The chips were noticeably homemade, perfectly cooked and salted. I had two asada tacos and one al pastor, and soon found that two would have been plenty. That said, I managed to down my last taco. So good! This place, hole in the wall that it is, seriously kicks ass. read more

We are from out of town and we couldn't find decent food( all diners ) then we found this place! It doesn't look like much from the outside but it is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to! 100% must try. Plus it is made fresh right after you order. read more

Carne asada tacos very good. Price is $2.25 each. Online menu says $1,95 each. Coctel de camaron (Shrimp Coctel) was very flavorful but didn't come with enough shrimp for the $12 price. read more

Very authentic atmosphere as you walk through a small unpretentious entry into a yesteryear general store with bulk Hispanic foods (dried poblanos and beans and brown pastas in many shapes) Tucked in the back as you weave your way past more sodas from Mexico and grocery items is a small room with a few tables and a hand written menu featuring tacos gorditas and tostadas in many classic combos. Pastore was my fav but the camerones tostada with avocado was very good too. While we were waiting for the food there were chips with two spicy salsas to munch on. Because they were hot, she made a savory pico de gallo for our kids which was also perfect on the tacos. Not Del Taco but very very good. Felt like I was in rural Oaxaca. read more
