Fantastic service from all staff members. On this day a nice lady named Audrey brought us VIP like service. She has a glowing smile and got our order accurate and out in lightning fast form. Staff members working the kitchen prepped up some delicious food on this day. I grew up coming to this place...it hadn't changed one bit. Still delicious so proud of the tradition they have kept. The cafe atmosphere was superb. Even when you park in the back lot .. you walk through the kitchen....so you really get. Transparent look at all things. I've been going to Harry's for my entire life and I'll be 64 this fall. I have always enjoyed good food, pleasant company and prompt service here and the check won't break the bank either. According to my grandmother the coconut cream pie is her recipe given to the proprietor on an index card a million years ago so I highly recommend it, as she knew her stuff. Harry's may not have a fancy atmosphere, there's no Wi-Fi and on most days there a couple of old smelly guys at the counter (who I'm probably related to) but let's give credit where it's due. You don't go in this place looking for a corporate burger and fries you go for good wholesome food at a reasonable price. You will never be disappointed. Oh...and the grilled cheese sandwiches are the BEST. read more

We arrived about 11am on a weekday so it wasn't crowded at all. We were promptly waited on and our breakfast arrived quickly. Eggs, hash browns, sausage were fine and the pancakes were big and tasty. The waitress was friendly enough and came by a couple of times to check on us. My only "ding" is that there was a slight musty smell when we entered and we almost left. Glad we didn't. What a great little spot in downtown Pittsburg KS. My son and I ate at the counter. Everyone was nicely distanced. I had the chicken club sandwich with fries. My son had the egg, sausage, hash browns and biscuits with gravy breakfast. I don't think I've ever seen him clean a plate so quickly. Everything was fresh and delicious. Plus, with fresh baked loaves of bread cooling on the counter, we left with a loaf, some cinnamons rolls that look amazing AND a slice of coconut cream pie. You really should stop by. It is under new management and it is awful! We waited 30 minutes to get seated and there were five booths open! The girl kept coming up to the front and looked at the people that were waiting and went back talking to the people that were already seated. When she would come up to check people out she would complain about the people that we're waiting grumbling about having to wait. We did get seated after another 20 minutes and I asked for a cup of coffee and they said it is being made but no one put any water in the machine or even mess with it at all. We waited another 15 minutes and left after not getting waited on! Not again! read more

I've only been here for breakfast, so I can't talk about any of the other food, but the breakfast is awesome! Low prices, large, filling portions and super nice staff! Okay, the place is a little...worn. I almost said dumpy but that sounded bad. Ignore your surroundings, and just enjoy the food! This was my dad's favorite place for breakfast, and he a;ways loved the biscuits and gravy. Which I think was my dad's favorite breakfast food EVER. I like the ham and cheese omelet with toast and hash browns for $5.99. Yup, a full breakfast NOT from a fast food place for about $6.50 (remember there is tax on food in Kansas!). You just can't beat that...plus it's god food, served by friendly people. You seat yourself. I've never had to wait, although I think I've gotten lucky. The seats are a little close together, and some of the booths are kinda small. I've lost some weight, and there are still a few booths that I have a hard time being comfortable in. But otherwise it's your typical diner seating...some seating at the counter, the rest booths and tables. There's parking in front on Broadway, or parking around back. I've never had a problem parking in Pittsburg, but maybe in the fall when the kids are heading back to university? I don't know. I've been coming to this little town for years to visit my dad, and really have never seen it busy... If you want a good breakfast, at a decent price, come to Harry's! This is the second time I have tried this place for breakfast. It is your typical smallish town diner/greasy spoon. The portions and the price are fair. The taste and quality are okay but nothing to write home about. The service was sub par for the place being empty at 7:00am. The cinnamon rolls looked awesome but that is where it ended. This is a great place to eat in Pittsburg. I have been eating there since the 80's. Their Chicken Fried Steaks and their Roast Beef on a open face sandwich is great. Did i mention their home made pies? They are the best i always get the chocolate or coconut cream pies. You must get there early for lunch or your selection of pie can be limited. read more

These people don't know what the hell they're doing. Placed a pickup order on DoorDash, and it took the counter lady three tries to find it, after I gave her my name AND told her it was a DD order. Then she told me I was supposed to have a red bag, and I had to switch to small words to tell her I don't work for DoorDash. She was wearing her mask under her chin, and clearly the atmosphere is permissive of idiots and their trash spawn running around spewing germs. By the time I got home I decided I was going to have to throw my order away, but I checked it first and they ignored the request for well-done hash browns and mushrooms added to the omelet. When my husband and I moved to Pittsburg Kansas over 20 years ago, Harry's cafe quickly became a family favorite for breakfast lunch and dinner. Over the years the service and food was always of high quality. Over the last year the quality and service has declined greatly. In the past 3 months we have been in 4 times. Mostly in the evening for breakfast but twice in the morning for breakfast. The evening service and food was the poorest food and quality. On our last evening visit my husband ordered an omelette. It was very unappetizing, most of the outside was burnt while the inside was almost raw. My eggs looked like they had been dropped on the floor and somehow they managed to blacken my toast 3 times. Today we decided to give Harry's one more chance. Our food was once again over cooked and our fries were raw. We saw our waitress twice during the visit and after waiting an hour we never received our eggs or toast. At one point we even got up and poured our own coffee. We are quite fond of Harry's new owners, but will make plans to go somewhere else when we want a good meal. read more

Flew into Pittsburg with the intention of eating at one of the chicken places in town but none opened until 4:00 PM on Saturday! Loved the old fashioned ambiance of Harry's. Sat at the bar & had the pork/bacon triple decker & my husband had a burger. Chose potato salad as a side & was disappointed when they were out. Chose onion rings instead. Betty, the matriarch of the business, walked past and said, "those are burnt, don't eat them you have more coming." Betty was definitely entertaining and IN CHARGE! Everything was delicious and fresh. Since we sat at the counter and faced the pie case we weren't leaving without some. Chocolate meringue was good and coconut creme was tasty as well. So Long, Harry's WOW!! Had an experience, today (and most assuredly my last one!!) We've been going to Harry's Cafe for 30 years. I've noticed that things (in my opinion) have gone steadily downhill (with the exception of the prices) since the new owners took over. Today Susan and I had some stuff to do in town, so we stopped by for brunch. We were seated at the end of a table for 4, as were the folks beside us, at a similar table. After our meal, we were enjoying cold drinks and conversation, when the owner, himself, came up and said: "I see you have your check, can I check you out?" Shocked, we got up and headed for the register. He went on to say: "I have a group of 7, and I need that table". I can assure the man he will NEVER have to worry about our business, or that of any of our family, EVER again! And frankly, I can also assure him this is why there is constantly a line of people waiting in line at Jimmy's Egg. There are several choices in this area for food. When I consider the fine quality of food, prices, and hospitality at the Eastside Cafe in Girard, Aunt Toadies in Ft. Scott...I truly can't imagine why anyone would continue to patronize a jerk like this! Well, Harry's, if you run em away, 2 longtime customers at a time, it won't take long to realize why you no longer "pack em in" like the previous owners did. Branch out, folks! There are restaurant owners all over the area who welcome, and generally want your business. Harry's is no longer one of them. read more
