My wife walked in an sat down at the second floor bar rail overlooking the water while I parked the truck. And when the young waitress came to ask for her order, she ordered two drinks:
1. A wine for her
2. Corona for me.
My wife asked for two pieces of lime on the side with my beer. The drinks came to the table. My beer, with a single wedge of lime, and her glass of wine, with two wedges of lime hanging on the edge of the glass.
Okay...a minor mistake. But while the waitress was talking to us she watched my wife hand me those lime wedges, and watched me put them in my beer.
When we ordered our second drink we also ordered Nachos, and asked for extra salsa. When the Nachos came there was no extra salsa, so I asked our waitress...again...for extra salsa. She went to the bar and returned with two of those little covered plastic containers full of sauce.
As my wife and I dug into the Nachos we noticed that there was very little in the bowl, except for chips, shredded lettuce (head lettuce), and black olives. In a bowl of chips about half the size of a basketball there might have been a tablespoon of cheese, and about two tablespoons of some type of chili that seemed like it was canned.
The waitress brought our second order of drinks and again, there were two wedges of lime on my wife's wine glass. Okay, honey (waitress)...are you stupid, or what?
As we dug further through our disappointing order of Nachos the first bowl of salsa was emptied, so I opened one of those little plastic containers, dipped into it with a fork and put a bit on a chip, bit into it, and.....ew! That's freaking BBQ sauce!
About five minutes later the waitress returns to ask if we'd like another drink. I turned to her and told her that she'd brought us BBQ sauce instead of salsa, and that the Nachos were about he worst I'd ever seen served in a restaurant. I mentioned, specifically, that there was virtually nothing in the bowl except for chips and lettuce, and handed her the bowl, which was less than half-eaten.
She said, "oh, I'm sorry." And that was the end of it. No offer to bring us a better order of nachos, no offer to adjust the bill, and she didn't even offer to bring us the "extra salsa" we'd requested initially.
So I asked her for the bill, which she brought to our table quickly. I ended up paying $16 for a bowl of nacho chips and shredded lettuce, most of which we didn't even eat.
Had our negative experience been solely related to the service of one waitress I probably wouldn't have "Yelped" about it. But since the kitchen sent out what I consider to be "crap," in the form of what I guess they consider to be "Nachos," the problem is more than just one lousy waitress.
To the "waitress":
Honey, if you're reading this, take the tip I left you was charity. You didn't earn it. I worked my way through college as a waiter. And I would have been humiliated to hand someone a bill for the crap you served us. This wasn't a huge order where you had a bunch of special requests. This was one glass of wine, one beer, and a freaking pate of nachos. You screwed up the wine (limes on the edge of the glass, both times, even after you watched my wife hand me the limes you gave her the first time), you screwed up the request for extra salsa (BBQ sauce instead), and when we complained about the nachos you did nothing but give us a half-hearted apology. It wasn't like we ate even half the nachos before we complained. We dug through the top to try to find something in the nachos besides chips and lettuce, and when we reached the middle and found nothing, we handed it back you. It was garbage, and you knew it.
To the kitchen staff: that order of nachos was ridiculous. You should be embarrassed to serve garbage like that.
To Harry T's management: If your policy is to have your wait staff respond to a complaint about the quality of your food with nothing more than a half-hearted apology, you're in the wrong business. Charging $16 for bowl of taco chips and a handful of shredded head lettuce, and calling that, "nachos" is ridiculous. In all honestly I can get a far better plate of Nachos at a fraction of the cost at Taco Bell.
If you really want people walking down on the docks to sit on the benches and enjoy the sunset with a small cooler of drinks and a bag from Taco Bell, keep it up. read more
