For me, HT is usually pretty good. At the Olney, MD location you can't walk a few feet without someone asking you if you need help. At this location I did have an employee ask me twice if needed help. However, he only initially approached me because I had been standing at the deli-counter for 10 minutes and he only followed up again because he completely forgot to help me after the first time he asked. Being the only person at the deli-counter with 2 employees milling about, it took about 27 minutes to get 2 pounds of deli-meat! HOW. IS. THAT. FOR. CUSTOMER. SERVICE!!! Yeahhhh!!!! read more

Finally!! My husband and I feel like we are moving up in the world! We timed the commute from Harris Teeter to our house and the drive was about 3 minutes! Previously, we had to drive all the way to the Whole Foods on P st or deal with crowds and the ghettoness (yes, I said it) of the Giant on Rhode Island Ave. The parking is always ample. They give lots of free samples. The store is spotless and well stocked. In fact, they have a large cheese selections. In addition, they have a tons of prepared foods ranging from pizza to sushi. The service is friendly and efficient. The downside is that they are expensive! I feel as though I spending at least 30% more on groceries a month since shopping there. read more

I would give HT 4 stars, but the deli is awful, which reduces their grade. I always have to ask to be helped. My average waiting time at the deli is probably 5 minutes (that's waiting time, not time being served). I have to wait because of two issues: the deli is understaffed (usually 1 person present, sometimes 2) and the employees who are behind the counter act lethargic and are not quick to serve. The service (or lack thereof) is unacceptable. So, in sum: STAFF THE DELI, STAFF IT WITH EAGER/ENERGETIC EMPLOYEES! This problem has also infected the butcher/fish market. Otherwise, I like HT. I can find good deals and they offer several pricing tiers. read more

This is the worst Harris Teeter I have ever been in. They are grossly understaffed and when you do find someone to inquire about a product, you get the response of "you ain't the only one buying butter." Lines are long in the evening, and they seem to run out of regular things people buy (eggs, butter, etc.) quite often. Food is more expensive here and so I expect better service as the product is the same. The only shining place is the pharmacy, but now that the lead pharmacist just left and my favorite tech is leaving as well, it may be time to find a new grocery store. This is the same Harris Teeter that was shut down by the health department for food mismanagement. You'd think they'd want to keep customers happy. Guess not. read more

This store is always dirty. The line is always wrapping around the aisle. The staff moves super slow, aren't knowledgeable, and will literally throw your groceries in a bag. The garage has a weird smell. The seafood counter food goes bad in 1-2 days. All around awful experience every time I attempt to shop here. Did i mention over priced? There's not a lot of nice things to say about this HT, so I'll get them out of the way first: beer and wine selection is solid and the prices are generally competitive, and they have like 15 types of peanut butter for those in need of experiencing option lock over sandwich spreads. The bad: 1) Service and staffing here are really rough. At any given time, there are obviously far fewer cashiers than necessary, and the speed with which they scan items is glacial at best. Bagging is a complete crapshoot. This store clearly under-trains their staff and holds them to no performance metrics. How management can't see this as a total embarrassment (I've witnessed people leave their entire orders in the lane and bail out) is beyond me. It appears the staff have no pride in their work at all, and management is invisible. 2) The general cleanliness/upkeep of the hot food areas and the in-store dining is just sad. It's not unhygienic, but I would be shocked if it's being kept up to company standards. 3) Meat prices are borderline criminal and I've picked up multiple *sticky* packs of chicken the last few times I came in. Gross. This isn't Safeway, get it under control. 4) This is endemic to most of the HTs in the district, but the produce section is a total mess. It feels like shipments are just being opened up and put out on the floor. It really sucks to have to pick through 15 mushy onions to get a decent one. In conclusion, having been to many Harris Teeters both urban and suburban, I can confidently say that this one needs a district or regional management review and real changes should be made. It's pretty disrespectful to your customers to have them picking through rotting vegetables and leaky meat only to wait 15-20 minutes to be shaken down at Whole Foods-esque prices. I'm going to start this off by saying that yes, I'm concentrating the majority of this review on the prices. But because of its location I'm sad to say that sometimes I'm stuck with this store, with no other options. I mean, I could stop by CVS which is across the street, but I'm not faring any better. I wish there were more store selections, especially when you're trying to get a quick bite for lunch and don't want to go to a restaurant. Usually I have an ok time with this store - you need to bring your own bags at checkout or you will be charged for them (it's a DC thing). But if you bring your own bag, you get a discount (of maybe 5 cents). Most of the time I'm able to find everything that I'm looking for, which is a bonus. Whenever I need help, workers there are helpful. But what killed it for me today was that I came into the store around 11:30am to beat the lunch crowd. All I wanted was a salad and some snacks that I could keep in my desk. When I walked in towards the salad bar, it was completely bare. I'm thinking - did I come in at 10am or something? Was it still considered breakfast time? So I went to go get my snacks and just checked out. As I was leaving I turned to see that they were finally putting something out - and my receipt indicates that I left at 11:43am. Seems kinda late in my eyes - and maybe it was their off-day. Because I wasn't the only one disappointed that the salad bar wasn't ready. But because I was on my lunch break, I didn't have time to wait around. Will I go back? Well I don't have a choice since this is right around the corner from my job. I'm not thrilled about how expensive it is either. read more

The staff here is always so nice and helpful. However, every Monday night is a nightmare. I have lived here for two years and every Monday is the same story. There is a line all the way through the store but it's unclear where the line is feeding to. Turns out this long line everyone is waiting in is for the self-checkout. It would be great if more people worked the weeknights to alleviate the lines. read more

Things are easy to find and they have a garage under the building. They take Apple Pay which is convenient. However, the check-out lanes are ALWAYS long. There is literally no cell phone reception in the building. They have wi-if but it's terrible, it drops every 30 seconds and is very weak. Also, other wi-fi networks are weak. Usually a lot of homeless right outside the street-level entrance. However, there is usually a security guard (or police officer) at the street-level entrance. read more

The 1 star is because the aisles were labeled well enough for me to easily find what I wanted. Beyond the labeling, I was underwhelmed. I found the prices to be quite a bit higher than I've seen elsewhere. $1.89 for a standard size (1L/Q) of Powerade is double what you expect to pay in other stores. It was on sale for $1/bottle, but that regular price is just crazy. If it wasn't obvious, Powerade is a diet staple. The store was crawling with cops. I saw 2 of them within 5 seconds of walking into the store. I'm used to seeing 1 person hanging out near the checkout but more than 3 leaves me leery of visiting the store at night. Maybe I just caught all the cops in the area on their lunch break, but I doubt it. More importantly, when I checked out the cashier never said one word to me. No hello, how are you, or even my total. He was so disinterested that he slapped my hand when I tried to grab my item (he had his head turned away from me the entire time). I walked past numerous employees including a high level manager, and no one ever greeted me. I don't ask for a lot, but a simple hello goes a long way. read more

I love this HT due to its close prolixity to my home & the fact that there isn't a Trader Joe's nearby. I usually have no problems whatsoever here. However with it being Pizza Monday, I decided to get a Margherita pizza. The guy Roderick tells me it's a 30 minute wait period. I was shocked & said, "30 minutes for pizza?!" I really didn't feel like cooking so I obliged & accepted. However, I waited 40 minutes & glared at the cook & he tells me he just put the pizza in the oven. The hell?!?!?! There wasn't anyone ahead of me. This was complete & utter bullshit! I'll never order any hot food from here again! All in all, this is a good place to get basic groceries. Avoid the PM rush @ all costs! The location is the only reason I give it 4 stars. read more

So I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I'm coming from a Wegman's neighborhood so I had high expectation for the new Teeter in town. Don't get me wrong the store is spotless, the staff are helpful, the parking is great! BUT the selection is kinda terrible. Every time i go to look for something I feel like I'm at Food Lion because it literally choice A or B, and there a VERY few specialty or organic selections. I meannnn can a sista get some cracked pepper water crackers and camembert?!!!! Is that really to much to ask?! The saving grace that keeps me from jumping on 395 back to Wegmans, is that they at least have a pretty big wine section. Again, its no Wegman's (who has there own FLOOR totally dedicated to wine) but hey I can manage. read more

My least favorite Harris Teeter. Yeah, that's like having a least favorite chocolate chip cookie, but there are a lot of things wrong with this place. They are often sold out of everyday items (lemon juice?) and the layout is extremely weird. It's like I say: I don't always buy eggs, but when I do, I like to buy them all the way on the other side of the store in their own separate section away from the rest of the dairy products. This place is so much better than the other places in the neighborhood. It is generally more pricey than the other stores, but they do have good sales, and the quality of the produce is far better than Safeway or Giant, but at a fraction of the price of Whole Foods. The butcher is getting better. At first they were lousy, but I think since more people have started to shop here they must have hired a more experienced butcher. Nice steaks at excellent prices! Wine selection is good, but much more expensive than Safeway. read more

I love this Harris teeter! Having been a frequent visitor to other HT locations, this is one of my favorites. The layout is designed well and aisles are clearly and intuitively marked. I love to pop in here for a quick lunch at the hot bar / salad bar. The prices seem to be a little higher than in accustom to, but I'll pay for the cleanliness and location. Another benefit is the free WiFi services. Don't miss out on the fresh bakery goods!! read more

The worst HT in the DMV! My 6 years old autistic daughter grow up in NC loving Harris teeter lucky Harry cookie! Every time I take her to this HT, they are out and they wouldn't even sell it to me. I saw a bunch of teens walk right by the security guard and get a handful of cookies and walk right back out. Her second most favorite item is eggo regular French toast. This Teeters reminds me of the whole foods back home, just without as many organic options. A bit in the pricey side for the salad bat ($7/lb) so don't expect many breaks or discounts. The wine collection is pretty decent but is scattered & could be better organized. read more

This a a needed addition to the neighborhood. They have a decent selection of gluten-free items, which is awesome. The store is clean and shiny. My biggest complaint is that the produce section is poorly-designed, and the selection of produce always leaves me frustrated. They have one or two exotic items, but then lack really basic things. However, I do appreciate that they always sell bunches of fresh herbs. Overall, the prices are high, and I try to go elsewhere for my produce, but it has everything else I need. read more

I've been shopping here for well over a year, and the little annoyances about this store are really becoming a pain. My milk often expires before the printed date, and they often don't restock their shelves well, leaving expired products or not restocking to keep up with demand. The cashiers are slow, inexperienced and when you complain about an issue, they just tell you to let customer service know rather than helping fix the problem themselves or helping you circumvent the line of people always at the customer service desk. Also, sales or printed prices by the shelved food is often not correctly reflected in the system. The pharmacy however is great as is their wine/beer selection. read more

This is the closest supermarket to me and by far the best in my area, pretty good selection of produce for a standard supermarket, they lose a point for poor meat selection though. It really grinds my gears whens cuts of meats are not labled with there real name but some BS gorcery store name like "Teriyaki steak great for sharing." Otherwise great store. read more

FUNNY BUT SAD BUT TRUE!!!I like fresh fruits and veggies, so venturing to the grocery store three times a week is the norm for me. I live in the city and I do drive, so the free underground parking is why I gravitate to this Teeter. I used to love it, and I still do especially because the selection is great. The cashiers HOWEVER! !!! SHORT STORY...READ BETWEEN THE LINES. Checking out but didn't feel like bagging my own groceries...My cashier didn't feel like it either, her name was long and began with a La******* anyway. After angrily ringing and bagging my groceries (which I could have done) I headed home. Going over my receipt...which I never do....I realize that I was charged 9.47$ for one yellow onion. OH NO SHE DIDNT...I went back, showed my receipt to customer service apologetically refunded my money. Mrs. La*whoever* was again at a register, so I went to the cafe to watch. At first, I felt stalkery watching, but after 2 customers realized how I was overcharged. HER STOMACH SITS ON THE SCALE WHEN SHE RINGS YOUR PRODUCE!!!!! This is not my favorite grocery store in the city, but I live in the attached building so sheer convenience (or, I guess, laziness) wins out and I shop here the vast majority of the time. The staff are pretty nice and helpful since it's still a newer store, even asking me if I need help when I look like I might be puzzled or searching for something specific, and it's very clean. The prepared food in the hot bars is also a big selling point when I get home late and don't want to mess around making dinner. My issue is the selection and the inventory control. This is not very big for a grocery store, and I feel like the Safeway by my old place (on 5th street) had a lot more options and stock. Here, there have been numerous times when they are out of something specific I was looking for, like lime juice or my preferred kind of bread. The biggest PITA for me is they are frequently out of regular chicken breasts or tenders, and they only have the horrendously overpriced organic chicken breasts. You really should stock up and freeze a few packages when they have them, because chances are they won't be there for long! read more
