Went in this evening and should have known better for many reasons. 1) Sushi selection was sparse. There was a sign saying we will make something for you until 8:00 p.m. Yup, nobody in sight nor a bell/buzzer to ask for assistance, was 7:00 pm on a Wednesday. 2) Some good sales, but you need a VIC card. I was at a HT one time previously, but declined when they wanted my driver's license number, yeah, no. So passed up on a 2 for 1 string cheese offer. 3) Went to self check-out thinking it would be faster. Two machines down, and when finishing up my transaction the kiosk screen locked up. No attendant in sight. Asked the nearest cashier for help, and she called Customer Service. I thought it would be prompt service as a woman left customer service ... then promptly disappeared down an aisle. A line is now starting to form because there are only two kiosks open. Again, I ask for assistance to clear the "customer service has been called" screen, and still nobody. Finally, a slow walking "don't bother me look" manager comes over, and says "What?" Seriously?! The now disappearing attendant magically appears when her boss shows up, and clears the screen. Good Grief I thought this would be a quick trip. Not only was it slow - broken down machine - but the attitude I can do without. Last time I'll be in any Harris Teeter, and in particular the one in Old Town and this one in Pentagon City, who needs the aggravation. read more

Harris Teeter is one of the reasons why I love my job. I often grocery shop during my lunch break. I like that they have the Asian vegetables in the produce section. They are pricier than the Asian grocery stores, but sometime I'm willing to pay for convinience when I'm too lazy to go to the Asian grocery. They have double coupon deal everyday and triple coupon deal several times a year. Harris Teeter, Arlington Row Arlington VA: About 6 times out of 10, the bread has big holes in the middle throughout the whole loaf. I have brought this to the attention of management several times but the management does not seem to worry about it. Also, lots of their products have passed expiration dates, like for example the smoked white fish salads I checked today 8/17/2018 and most of them were expired 8/15/2018 and that is just one example. This is entirely on the head of management, NOT the employees on the workfloor. A young cashier once told me that their pay is barely around the minimum wages. I'm basing my 4 stars on the fact that I know this is a regular grocery store (i.e. not gourmet produce) and a very busy place, so it's sometimes not stocked perfectly. But I understand that's what you get for choosing a chain store that's close to a metro with ample parking. I'm still rating it 4 stars though because despite being busy, there's always someone keeping watch on the checkouts and directing you to the shortest line. I'm amazed at how fast I get to the checkout. It has pretty much everything you could want out of a chain grocery - decent discounts, a flyer you can check online, and easy checkout (including self check-out). Yeah, I go to different stores for more specialty-type items, but this place is pretty good for everything else. read more

This is the first supermarket I've been to within DC. As such, I'll start with an average rating. The good parts of this place was that the place was large and clean. There was a good selection of item, including a decent selection of prepared foods. I especially liked the $3.99 meal special and have gotten it a few times over the last few days. The cashiers were quite friendly and asked each time whether I've found everything I was looking for. The negative are the prices. I'm not sure if the prices are typical for the region but they were significantly higher than the markets I've been to in NYC and Boston. For example, the Harris Teeter brand of 100% Concord grape juice was about $5 with the VIC "Very Important Customer" card. The store brand 100% Concord grape juice from my regular supermarket is only $2.50 without any cards. Still, as long as I'm in the area, I'm sure to return to this market. read more

I live on top of this grocery store, and have for several years. It's convenient, but that's about all it's got going for it. Soooo overpriced. My benchmark for this is Brussels sprouts. It's now $4 for a pound. $4! That's crazy. They do have occasional good deals on coffee, and they also carry my favorite popcorn (GH Cretors). Some other redeeming qualities are a decent (yet mind-numbingly pricey) cheese selection, Boar's Head meat and, because of good meat, good sandwiches (although they're no Publix subs, I promise you that). Their produce is always terrible, and they often run out of rotisserie products. The salad bar is disgusting, and clearly sits for hours, unattended. Its selection is terrible as well. Their prepared food section by the deli looks as if it's full of plastic display fake food. I come here when I need something quick, but you can go to Whole Foods and pay the same (less, in some cases) for far superior products. This HT could use a reboot and a refresh. read more

My roommates and I are regulars of the "Teet". It may be a little pricier than Giant so make sure to check out their flyer to get their specials. They have a good selection of Naked fruit juices and smooties which I love. The best thing here is that they are open 24 hours. read more

I love this Harris Teeter and it was one of the perks of buying a place in Pentagon City. It is incredibly clean, has a good selection of most things you may need in a grocery story, and is open 24 hours. Did I mention it's open 24 hours? This is a huge plus. In addition, the prices are what you would pay at Safeway but the quality of produce and the whole shopping experience - oh so much better. Other reviews have pointed out that this place gets really packed after work hours. Well, this is exactly why I don't go shopping there or any other grocery store after work hours. I usually make sure to get my shopping done in the late evenings or on the weekends. No lines, no fuss. read more

This store is good for necessities for hygiene and kitchen products but they are lacking in variety when it comes to food. They did not have a lot of things that Whole Foods. Not great to shop here if you are looking for organic or healthier foods. Checking out has been quite easy though. We have never had a problem here. read more

I loved living across the street from this Teeter. The staff is friendly (helping my roommate and I track down multi-packs of ramen , hiding their dismay when they realized we were broke but just cheap, etc) and the store is bright and clean. The vegetables aren't always great (the asparagus is consistently sad). The cakes are great, the breads are good, the free samples of bread and french butter is fabulous. The BEST part is ... the SUSHI COUNTER! The sushi chefs are sooo nice and make whatever sushi rolls you ask for. Even the pre-packaged ones aren't bad. I've catered from here too, and they threw in a bunch of extras for us. Even though I'm on the other side of the city now, I contemplate stopping by to pick up some sushi :) read more

The Bad: Expensive. Moved to the area two weeks ago from TX. I thought that things were just more expensive here in general so when I visited Harris Teeter I thought their prices were normal. I was shocked when I visited a local Target a few days ago and found out that Tide in fact is not $15 but a more normal $11! Compared the prices of several things I bought at HT with the prices at Target and I almost cried for the second time in my life (1st happened when I was reading the chapter about Dumbledore's funeral in HP and the Half-Blood Prince but I digress). What a great grocery store! I love the Teets. It is huge, clean, had some good deals, including for avocados, large wine selection and tons of free samples! I actually bought a goat cheese log here because they had it out in the free samples and was soooo good. 3 different types of bread were out too, in large slices, ham, other cheese and various fruits. I was tremendously pleased by this! I am so excited for a Teets to open near my place in Old Town. Until then, I think this is my favorite in the area. It is also a short walking distance from Costco! My one complaint is that I didn't see sushi grade fish, but that is a small quibble. Love this place! read more

Harris Teeter rocks my flip flops! I don't really wear socks... Do you know how awesome it is to have a grocery store you can walk to and not have to worry about the stress of parking? Yes, yes. It was wonderful having this steps away from our corporate housing apartment. Shame that we had to move... Anyway, even though we have moved away, we still frequent this Harris Teeter since it is not far from our current apartment. I think it is reasonably priced with better than average quality food. I think I am definitely more partial to this chain than Giant or Safe Way groceries, but hey, that is strictly my opinion. It is a clean environment. Everyone who works here seems to take pride in there work. Except the one time the night manager didn't seemed to give two craps about me trying to get his attention to get a Harris Teeter discount card. Ass hole. This Harris Teeter annoys me to no end but because of its convenience, it'll get 3 stars. I think the foot traffic that this location receives from being close to a metro makes it feel a little more grimy, a little more unkempt than other Harris Teeters. This is a nice store. It's pricey, but so is everything in this neighborhood. The produce section is well stocked and fresh, they have a good variety of foods and it's well organized. I don't like the parking garage, but at least I always get a spot when I go in the evenings after work. My only complaint is the staff. 2/3 of them are friendly and competent, but the other 1/3 can leave a bad taste in your mouth. Usually, that just means being a bit grumpy and giving you a dirty look when you ask for paper instead of plastic. I've been yelled at 3 times, once for validating parking BEFORE I shop, another because my blueberries felt out the bag when she poorly stacked them, and the last for taking 2 free cookies instead of one. I retorted, "I just spent $100 on groceries, I think you can give me an extra sugar cookie!" Although memorable, these experiences are not the norm and most of the staffers are friendly and sometimes even look like they enjoy their jobs. read more

I like Harris Teeter. I shop regularly here (McLean) and in the Pentagon City location. It is a bit more expensive than Giant or others, but its a comfortable place, employs people with disabilities, which I believe is a wonderful social contribution --and a tax relief--. They seem happy doing what they do and they do it well; Employees have gone waaaay out of their way to help me find something I can't find like a... "special kind of German Sauerkraut". Real story. As they didn't have it, they ordered it to be available for me and other customers willing to buy the same particular product. I understand that I pay a few dollars more here, but it's SO convenient and pleasant that I just don't bother to go some place else most of the times. read more

Very disappointed in the check-out line. Not only did checkout boy allow someone to cut in front of me, but he also refused to give me tampered gum for free. My Dentyne Ice or whatever had one piece missing...cashier said I could get a different pack or else leave my tampered pack--no freebies. Good plant selection. Peace Lillies, little bamboos in gelatinous substrate, rhidonderons of various hybrids. Plants are located next to the fancy cheeses, and there are LOTS of fancy cheeses. They are open 24 hours 7 days a week, which is great! They are also very close to my apartment and many other apartments. They have a lot of choices of vegetables, usually fresh, depends on the hour you come. Not the least expensive I've seen, but not terrible. I purchased raw lobster tails last week and when I cooked them and tried to take a bite, they smelled strongly of ammonia. I bought them back and was refunded. Tonight, I bought halibut. Thought there was a hint of ammonia smell but cooked it anyway. Once flipped over, the ammonia was very strong. Clearly, their fish section is dangerous. I won't try a third time. read more

Boy, did the neighborhood need this market! Before Harris Teeter and the rest of Pentagon Row arrived, it was just a big, old, ugly field of weeds between the building down the hill from me and Pentagon City Mall. And once all the new development appeared, rental prices in the area shot up like crazy. So, some people who lived in the 'hood for years got priced out and had to migrate out to low-budget, sketchy Columbia Pike. Ew. Whenever I visit, I have to make at least two stops at Harris Teeter. I always cook some huge spread for my dad, be it for the holidays or just for the very special occasion of my visit. And daddy has a sweet tooth, so I most always have to go back for cookies, pie, those Kellogg's cereal bars and whatever else he may be craving. This place is huge, like 4 Gristede's under one roof HUGE, and sort of makes me feel like a suburban housewife which, had I stayed in Arlington, I might just be right now, for better or for worse. There I'll be, steering the cart around and staring at all the variety, saying to myself "holy crap, I sure as hell will never find this at the Food Town in my 'hood!!" The market has every food imaginable, including health and international foods, although not too much of the latter (the Pentagon City 'hood is probably the least adventurous part of Arlington, in every way). There's also items of the drugstore type, so a second stop won't be necessary. Whatever they don't carry, they'll order it for you, which is a big plus. The produce is all very fresh, and there is a bakery, deli and salad bar. Those departments are not really that good, but will do in a pinch. The self check-out registers work, and there is always someone stationed by them in case one should konk out. The staff are always helpful. None of those over-gelled, gum-smacking, I-just-got-my-tips-done types, thank the Lord. Actually, I always marvel at how nice people are in the neighborhood. Like, abnormally nice. I-am-not-used-to-it kind of nice. Harris Teeter is like Fairway, minus the cheese section, minus the class and minus the crowd. It's actually kind of a sanctuary. I know, I'm a freak. I'm going to start this review by noting that I work very close to this location, so I wind up in here at least once a week. Twice in the last couple of months, I have gone in and the salad bar has unexpectedly not been put out--remember, I go here regularly, so I know when it's usually put out by. Both of these times, I have calmly and politely asked what the deal was with the salad bar that day. And both of these times, the employee I was asking--different employees each time, mind you--responded with utter disdain for me, as though I'd barged in and thrown a tantrum about "why isn't the salad bar ready, what's wrong with you people!" Now the thing is, I could shrug off being treated this way if their prices were not inexplicably high. Like $6.50 for a 12 pack of cans of Coca Cola? I've lived in Manhattan and never seen prices so high. I'll probably still wind up going back here, but only because their salad bar is the cheapest healthy option near work if I'm not able to prepare my lunch at home. However, it makes me wonder what's going on behind the scenes here if their employees are all so miserable. read more

I cannot get enough of harris teeter. After spending 4 years in Charlottesville (yes, I went to UVA), I'm used to spending a lot of time at harris teeter. It just pained me to find out there weren't any Teeters in or around College Park. Thus, I'm forced make the pilgrimage to this store when I'm in need of good groceries. They are a little more pricey than other stores, but these are quality groceries. I'm a fan of their products. They also keep the store clean, which is definitely a good thing. I'm sad this store doesn't have a discount for students, but I'll survive. I still love the "teet" and it's worth the gas I use to drive out here (sorta). read more

Just a basic regular grocery store. It is definitely nicer here than Shoppers and Giant. They usually have samples of fruit, cheese, deli meat, and bread which is a plus. The sushi here is surprisingly not that bad. I have never gotten sick from it. However, the avocados are never fresh, so stay away from those. My major complaint is the self checkout. The system is complete garbage. Out of the 6 self checkout stations, it seems like there are usually 1 or 2 that are not working. In addition, there usually is an issue scanning a barcode, or the system just goes bonkers if you don't put the item in the grocery bag right away. I end up having to need the attendant come by to assist. The self checkout is an issue in most stores. They just haven't perfected it yet. read more
