    Veal Sweetbreads

Was it awesome! Yep! Would I go again, 100%! They do their sides beautifully and exquisitely. It's a lovely date spot, celebration spot, going by yourself spot. We got a lovely blue cheese salad (which I'm not normally a fan of but they got the balance right). We also had veal sweetbreads, not bad! It was my first time having such a thing.. and I'd have it again. The main course was our prime rib and yum! Fully of beef flavor. But there's a place that's just a touch more tender than how they made their's... so it's a close second for us!

I've been here a couple of times, from family dinners to celebrations, and it's always solid! The ambiance is a classic, traditional steakhouse. For apps, we get the Steamed clams or mussels, crab cakes, and a couple of salads. I always order the Harris steak because I love a NY strip. You have a choice of baked or scalloped potato and seasonal veggies (usually snap peas and carrots). My family loves the Prime rib! It's a huge portion, so my grandparents always split the steak! There's a difference between "Split" and "Shared". Split is when you're paying extra $10 for the sides and the kitchen will split the steak for you to share. Shared plates is when you don't get extra sides and the steak will not be split. For dessert, my favorite is the baked Alaska! They have the flavor of the baked Alaska depending on the season! Overall, the food is good, the service is solid, and most of the time I've had a great experience. One of my favorite classic American steak house! Can't go wrong!

Harris' Steakhouse sets the gold standard for dining in San Francisco. From the convenient valet parking to the complimentary coat check, the hospitality was exemplary from the second we arrived. When we needed to return a drink, the team handled it graciously without hesitation or hassle. The food was nothing short of divine--spectacular mussels, a perfectly cooked steak, and every single side dish was exquisite. Everything was execution at its finest. I was beyond thrilled with our evening and cannot wait to return.

Our group of four visited Harris' Restaurant for dinner, and from start to finish, the experience was exceptional. We had reservations and were seated promptly, which set the tone for the evening. The atmosphere is consistently top-notch. The dining room features comfortable booths and well-spaced tables, creating a cozy yet private environment. Service was outstanding, as always. Plates were cleared quickly between courses, water glasses were continually refilled, and the servers were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. My husband and I shared the roasted peaches and goat cheese on endive lettuce leaves to start. It was amazing--sweet, juicy peaches paired perfectly with creamy goat cheese and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. For my main course, I ordered Steak Diane, which was prepared perfectly. The sauce was rich and flavorful. One of the highlights is that their dinners are not à la carte; my steak included a choice of potatoes, and my loaded baked potato was spot-on. The sautéed zucchini and carrots were cooked to perfection. Between the superb service, delicious food, and inviting atmosphere, Harris Steakhouse remains a favorite. We will definitely be returning.

Was able to get a late Sunday evening dinner with my kids for a Mother's Day mini celebration. We showed up on time. The steak displace on the window was pretty fabulous. It is an old school American restaurant feel. We got seated pretty quickly and the seats were very comfortable. The bread here was pretty solid. Good crust on the outside and a big softness inside. My younger one loved it. Ordered a shrimp cocktail to start, prime rib for me, Harris cut steak for kiddos, got fries for kids and ordered extra mushroom. Shrimp cocktail was wonderful. Fresh, jumbo sized with some salad to go with. Ordered a glass of red. It was alright. My prime rib was wonderful. Temp was just right, good amount of salt, nice amount of options for my baked potatoes. I am not a huge fancy of creamed spinach. But it tastes alright. Liked my mushroom side but it was slightly greasy. Kids liked the steak. They precut the steak for little ones. Fries were okay. We couldn't finish the main meals and had a good amount to go. I ordered a baked Alaska and my older one got a strawberry shortcake. We both loved our desert. Service was great. Attentive and efficient. Overall, we all had a wonderful time! Would be back.

Prime Rib Medium Rare, Spinach, and the extra strong horseradish. For me this was exactly how I liked it.

A unique difference. Everything was just excellent. They took us in immediately. Jim, our server, was an obvious veteran and helped us finalize our order and make sure everything was great. Never had to ask for water or refills. Steak and prime rib was perfect. We had the onion rings which were unique. But I thought it needed a dipping sauce. Ask and see what they could prepare. Prime rib was medium rare which was perfect for me. And their horseradish was very special. But be prepared, it's very strong. Creamed Spinach was also excellent. We also liked the baked potato which had all the trimmings. So be prepared to eat a lot.

It's a Wednesday night and we had no reservation, we were greeted with a warm welcome, quickly seated and had a wonderful server. We had the prime rib, it was absolutely delicious. Every element on the plate was perfection, there is not one single thing I would change. Live music as a dinner accompaniment in a thoughtfully decorated cozy and not too loud atmosphere. Absolutely will be back next time I'm in town.

Had such a great first experience! Our server Damion was amazing, friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The place was very calm & relaxing compared to house of prime down the street. The prime rib was absolutely delicious, tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly. Definitely one of the best meals I've had in a while! Great service and great food. We'll definitely be back!

Boyfriend and I went to Harris' for date night. Our waitress, Lucy, was phenomenal! Her recommendations were super helpful since it was our first time there. I ordered the filet mignon with scalloped potatoes and my boyfriend ordered the ribeye. The filet was flavorful and juicy while the scalloped potatoes were addicting. Harris' is easily one of our top 5 best restaurant recommendations for steak!

Had to do some research on a good steak house in sf to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and Harris' certainly met my expectations based on the reviews I read. I wanted a nice old school steak house where people put effort in their clothes (not just a t shirt and jeans) and I'd say this is definitely the place. Compared to House of Prime Rib next door, I'd argue that I had a better experience with reservations, drinks, and our food here...!!! Arrived a bit early but luckily our table was ready which was great! I couldn't be any more satisfied with my filet mignon, side of potato and green beans, and two glasses of wine. For the dessert menu they have a variety of drinks and food. Because I was already so full I decided to go with the wine which was definitely a dessert itself from how sweet it was. If you're looking for a good steak house this is it! Pricey of course but worth it. (They also had live music towards the back)

Skipped appetizers and salad and went straight for the petite filet cooked medium rare with a baked potato and seasonal vegetables. The steak was cooked perfectly. They served the steak with garlic butter. The steak had a slight char on it and I wish there was more. The potato and seasonal vegetables were great complement to the steak. Kevin did an excellent job as our server. I got the crème brûlée for dessert and it was tasty. It would have been outstanding if the glaze on top would have been a little thicker. Vibe is upscale.

Opened in 1984, Harris' Restaurant is one of those San Francisco classic steakhouses. I came here with my friend after seeing a video on eating at the bar, but we opted for the dining room. The restaurant leans into old-school elegance, with plush booths, soaring ceilings, brass chandeliers, and live music adds to the timeless atmosphere. Service was excellent! The bar has a darker, almost library-like vibe, while the dining room feels brighter, like a conservatory. It's giving 1950s charm--but with a twist, since the restaurant is only dating back to the '80s. And it even has a legacy restaurant seal on the front of their building.

A classic steakhouse! Less crowded than house of prime rib nary a block away. The service and ambiance feels like a time capsule, what I imagine the Ritz Carlton from the early 2000s nailed in having ceremonious hospitality feel normal. This is not a flashy restaurant vying to capture the instagram crowd. This is an establishment weathering decades, though I will say Harris' carries the faint sterility and stiffness of a hotel lobby. I would probably choose a different cut from the porterhouse next time. This is a splurge meal for an occasion if you are looking to cosplay what millenials romanticize as old money.

Harris' Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Harris' Restaurant

Is there a cake slicing fee if we bring in our own cake?

    Yes

Is there bar seating and can a seat be reserved for one?

Yes there is a bar and lounge area. Reservation for one may not be required, but they will certainly take it.

    What is acceptable dining attire?

Attire is nice or business casual. Nice jeans or khaki's dressed up on top are fine. Shorts, hats, flip-flops, and overly athletic wear are not permitted in the Main Dining Room. Our Piano Lounge walk-in tables are more casual.

If you show up at opening will they take walk ins? If so how long will you wait?

There are tables for dinner saved for walk-ins... No wait as long as a table is available.

Should I make a reservation if I plan to go on Fridays between 5pm-7pm?

    Yes.

Is proof of vaccination still required? 7/22

It was not required last time we were there.

Do you offer outdoor dining for non vaccinated people?

No, they don't have outdoor dining. All of San Francisco requires vaccination card (some need booster as well) for indoor dining. Not all have outdoor dining. Best to be vaccinated if you visit San Francisco!

Do they offer dine in as of Aug 2021?

Yes, they do. You must provide proof of vaccination to dine. We just had a fabulous dinner there last night, highly recommended.

    What is the corkage fee?

40$ for up to 2 bottles.

    Are they offering dine in?

No. They were open for awhile but then San Francisco shut down again. I got the opportunity to eat there on my Birthday in October. Great as always and they hadn't raised their prices

What do the take out Menu look like?

The whole menu is available for takeout. It can be found at Harrisrestaurant.com. Let me know if you have any questions about the menu.

The quality is always on point (you get what you pay for) and the process is easy to preorder. The main thing to plan for is the long wait in line to pick up your preorder. Now you can find a steak in almost any neighborhood in SF. When it comes to steak the best advice is to get at the butchers. This place has lots of different types of beef available and it's called the Blind Butcher in SF. On a Fall stroll on 18th street I landed at the Blind Butcher. I do enjoy the traditional American steak houses but it seems some you will have to dress up in a three piece suit just to dine in. Blind Butcher is more of a casual steakhouse where you will see people wearing tie dye shirts and others just wearing casual wear dinning in. Inside is a bit dim and has a bar and some seating. I started off with the lollipop lambs which came with cherry tomatoes and they were delicious and not gamey and so tender. If you had a blind test you wouldn't know it was lamb and would guess more likely it would have been beef steak. Then I got the Truffle Lobster Mac & Cheese and it was so cheesy like some on my social media feed in SF. It was tasty and a little rich. The main star of the meal was the filet mignon. It was juicy and so soft and it had so much flavor. I then washed it down with glasses of Balletto Pinot Noir and Lillie's Pinot Noir on repeat for Don Juan Pinot Noir. We started with the Caesar salad, and I have to say probably the best Caesar salad I've ever had. Seriously, it was that good. Then came the viral Butcher's Board, which says it serves 3+ people, but we had to order it. And it absolutely did not disappoint! It came loaded with prime ribeye, filet mignon, rack of lamb, crispy calamari, lobster truffle mac & cheese, butcher's potatoes, creamy octopus, mushrooms, and toasted ciabatta. Everything was so on point. Every bite was delicious and the board was definitely the star of the meal. The drinks were good, but I wouldn't say they were the highlight. We started with an espresso martini made with mezcal instead of vodka. I was intrigued, so of course I had to try it. It was good, but I'm still a fan of the traditional espresso martini. We also had a Lavender Lemon Drop, along with two signature cocktails, The Castro and Lavencine. The Lavencine was easily the best drink of the night. Overall, this was one of the best dinners I've had in a while. Great food, great atmosphere, great service, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to. We came to the Palm Court at RH San Francisco for a special treat for our wedding anniversary…read more Let's talk about the atmosphere and ambiance for a little bit. Coming in, you'll see the unique structure that RH is located in. This is very obvious as this building stands out within the neighborhood of warehouses. The neighborhood doesn't feel like it's located in the best parts of San Francisco. Keeping that in mind once you are inside, it makes you feel like you have time traveled back to a house within the Roman period. With a small water fountain in the front, it showcases the aspirations of where RH wants its customers to feel when owning one of their products. With the basement and third floor being RH product based, down the hallway is where the restaurant was located. It can be tricky if the attendants weren't around but they quickly pointed us toward the right direction to where the restaurant is located. Since we were here for dinner on a reservation, they seated us fairly quickly. There were palm trees that's very visible from inside the restaurant which gave you the feeling that you're in an indoor outdoor space. The seating I gotta tell ya, it's an extremely unique experience. There's literally a fountain in the middle of the restaurant and unlike most restaurants where seating are in some type of order, the seats are set where it surrounds the palm trees throughout. Ok, enough of how cool this place looks, here's what we got: 1. Prosciutto & Delice Board - (4 out of 5) The board came how you would expect. The bread paired with the cheese were delicious, same with the deli meat and grapes. I did feel it was slightly underwhelming given how much bread it had. This dish seems to be made for a larger group in general then it was for us, a family of three. I would have much preferred a slightly smaller loaf and more add-ons to the board. 2. Mini Lobster Rolls with Caviar - (4 out of 5) The caviar they've placed on top of the lobster rolls were handsome in portion. The size of the mini lobster rolls though are really small. I know, it says "mini" on the menu but seriously, it is really really tiny. The lobster itself tasted fresh rightfully seasoned with the buttered and toasted bread, yum! 3. Grilled Asparagus - (5 out of 5) Nothing to see here, they tasted fine lol. 4. Honey Glazed Salmon - (5 out of 5) From the appearance, it looks like the honey glazed salmon is burnt. However, once you cut into them and give it a bite, it is well seasoned and is extremely soft. The tenderness of the salmon tells me that they have master this dish down to a tee. Combined with a small portion of mash potatoes, a definite must try for any salmon fans. 5. Sweet Potato Fries - (4 out of 5) Sweet potato fries, I mean who can resist them at a restaurant like this? Yum! 6. Whole Grilled Branzino - (5 out of 5) The branzino was cooked in a similar fashion like the salmon. With the right amount of olive oil mixed in, the taste is as tender as ever while not being too strong in its seasoning. 7. Caramelized Banana Split - (5 out of 5) The caramel sugar on top of the banana is similar to what you would expect in the same fashion where a creme brulee would have it. Combined with the three scoops of vanilla ice cream is hard to resist at the end of our meal. 8. Service - (5 out of 5) Our waiter was top notch. He came around often and was friendly to chat with. My wife has a tendency to drink a lot of liquids during a meal and most of the times we had to flag people down in other restaurants on refills, not our waiter here! I think he kept coming back so much to fill her water that she had to tell him that she's good lol! My overall experience inside the Palm Court at RH has been excellent. You can tell RH has invested heavily to showcase why their stuff cost the way it does and this transforms to the restaurant as well. If you ask me what type of restaurant I would place the Palm Court at, I would say I categorize it as a place where the wealthy congregate for a nice brunch. It's not formal dining nor is it casual, it sits right in the middle as a restaurant with style. If you enjoy architecture and ambiance, this is not one to miss. The food is great but the menu can definite expand in my opinion. Give it a shot the next time you're close by, chances are you'll probably experience something more than you have imagined. At least that's what it was for us lol.

Unfortunately, prior to arriving to the restaurant one couple had to opt-out of dinner due to their son having g the flu. Beyond our control. Throughout the evening our party felt uncomfortable as 2 Managers were staring and hovering over our section seeming to be disappointed that there were empty seats at our table and for the loss of revenue. Additionally, the restaurant again did not fulfill my request. The attention to detail on some previous reservations have been missing the mark. My hope is on my next dining experience the experience will be for better and will be able to issue 5 stars across the board.

The entire staff was welcoming, fast, and genuinely attentive, which is no small feat for a large party. The food exceeded every expectation. STK went all out on surf and turf: impeccably cooked steaks, fresh oysters, tuna tartare, sliders, salmon, lobster, shrimp pasta, and chicken. Everything came out hot and beautifully presented. The cocktail program is just as strong, with high-quality drinks. Make sure you save room for dessert, because the dessert is an absolute must. The cheesecake, donuts, and warm butter cake were incredible, and the apple pie was easily the best I have had in a long time. Beyond the food and service, the ambiance hit the exact right note. Great energy and vibrant music, but dialed in at a volume where everyone at the table could easily talk and connect without shouting. Easily a 5-star night. We will definitely be back.

I had a flight of their amaros and loved them all, followed by some excellent cocktails that highlighted their products. Dinner menu is designed for sharing/family style. Everything was delicious and creative. We started with their crispy chicken skins, a bitter lettuce ceasar, octopus salad, and their duck confit with a surprising corn couscous. Our server was excellent, with full knowledge of their spirits and lots of guidance for tasting. Loved the bright comfortable dining room, with a bit of vintage flair.

Very much appreciated that accommodation. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and tasted even better. There was a special with homemade focaccia, ricotta, pesto, and eggplant + tomato tapenade. I could have eaten a bowl of every ingredient individually, and together they were even better than the sum of the parts. We also had the curry chicken croquettes, citrus caesar, confit octopus, and gnocchi - all fantastic. And the drinks - next level. I had the Sam Fernando and it was dangerously drinkable, I had to order a second. My partner's Bird of Paradise bamboozled us with its clarified coconut milk - so wild to drink something CLEAR that tasted so much like a piña colada! Our other two party members had NA drinks that were also nuanced and delicious. I will very eagerly come back whenever I have the opportunity!

I loved the decor all around the restaurant with adorable cow art and a very clean feel. The servers and hosts were coming over to chat with us and just made us feel so welcome and special. From the second you walk in until the second you leave you are in good hands. It's also right across from the train so it's super easy to get there! I don't normally like horseradish, but the burger came with the perfect amount of horseradish where it tasted very fresh and added a good burst of flavor without being overwhelming! The fries were delicious and crispy. 10 out of 10 food, service, and environment. I would give them more stars if I could.

A charming little bistro inspired by the Marlowe cows, I'm assuming, managed to stun us with several memorable dishes. The warm deviled eggs were an excellent start. Savory yet delicate enough to not weigh us down right at the beginning of our meal. The horseradish aioli wasn't for me, but I can see its appeal for a certain audience. You give me a Calabrian chili sauce and it's guaranteed to make me happy and this shrimp with sweet corn was no exception. Again, light but a punchy flavor that was enjoyable. I could go on and on about the different dishes we tried but the real standout of the night was the pork tenderloin with chorizo and peaches. The sweetness from the peaches somehow managed to enhance the flavor of the chorizo. This dish gives you a bold, savory and sweet bite all together but still won't have you feeling super heavy. The portion size is perfect. Im hoping to return soon for another exquisite meal.

I wanted to take her to one more nice place before heading back home. Chef Tyler Florence's Miller & Lux next to the Chase Center in Mission Bay seemed like the best option. Parking was a bit challenging, as the spots across the street from Miller & Lux were five minute passenger loading only after 6pm. So I had to park in the stadium garage, which took about 10 minutes to find a spot and walk all the way back to the restaurant. From the moment we were escorted upstairs from the bar area, the service was top notch. Very congenial and accommodating. More importantly, my mom felt well-taken care of by the staff. They gave us our choice of a central booth or smaller table next to the expansive window overlooking Mission Bay. As we are both light eaters, we decided to share an order of the Filet Mignon and Tableside Caesar. After the soufflé-like bread puff and butter appetizer, the salad specialist rolled up his cart next to our table. He got busy mixing together mustard, Worcestershire sauce, shaved Parmesan, and several other ingredients then tossed it with neatly trimmed lettuce. Finally, he topped each salad with candied Meyer lemon, more shaved Parmesan, thin croutons and plump anchovies. There was also lemon zest dashed around the rim of the plate. I ate each leaf while instead of cutting it. Seemed easier that way. It had a nice balanced taste and was one of the better Caesar salads that I've had. The Filet Mignon was a bit rarer than the medium rare we requested. It had almost an Akami tuna like texture inside, which is not what you'd expect from beef. Possibly some aging broke it down to make it that smooth. They were very accommodating to take it back and fire it on the grill a little longer. It came back with the perfect amount of doneness. The horseradish sauce we added gave each bite a nice cream and spicy kick. We had an ode to the now extinct Orange Julius' signature flavor, orange and cream in the form of a soft serve sundae topped with a sugary macaroon and tart tangerines. It definitely brought back some memories. Thanks to the staff for making dinner for me and my mom a pleasant and enjoyable experience with their hospitality. For an upscale steakhouse and seafood establishment with exceptional service, Miller & Lux is a great option in the City.

We were greeted by the sommelier who opened up the wine bottle we brought and also made some recommendations. She also brought over the champagne cart and I started the evening with a glass of the Collet Brut which was crisp and refreshing. A perfect palate cleanser to start off with the appetizers. The complimentary pop over is still one of the most delicious treats ever! It was brought over with a classic butter and a flavored butter that were just to die for. Now of course, the caesar salad is still a must here!! Prepared tableside this is part show, part experience, and full flavor bomb. I love watching the dressing come together and the freshness of every ingredient being used. Just the aroma of the olive oil and parmesan cheese is amazing. The Caesar salad was dressed to perfection and perfectly crisp! Also got the oysters, because they were an absolute knock out the last time we were here. And still one of the best! It is quite literally the cleanest and freshest oyster I've ever had. Our waitress did an amazing job of explaining the whole menu in great detail. For dinner entree, we went with the ribeye, served with bone marrow to split between 2 with a side of the mac & cheese and accompanied with creamed horseradish to give the steak an extra kick. To be honest, that steak needs nothing extra. It is "melt in your mouth" tender and extremely flavor. I love the addition of the bone marrow because it enhances the richness of the steak. The mac & cheese is also very indulgent and rich. We were way too full for dessert so we went with a ball of the espresso gelato and were given complimentary carrot cake bites which were soooo gooodddd. I wish I wasn't full because they're pastry chef is the best! Hands down the place for a 5-star lux dining experience!
