On our road trip through the Southern Tier, we stopped off at the Harris Diner, located in the Village of Owego. There is no mistaking the sports loyalties at the Harris Diner for the NY Yankees and NY Giants (with logos on each side of the entrance). The inside of this classic diner is like a shrine dedicated to the NY Yankees and NY Giants. The walls are plastered with plenty of photos (including Babe Ruth & Mickey Mantle), newspaper articles, and memorabilia on display. This classic diner is pretty cozy with a long lunch counter with open kitchen/grill, and a long row of booths. The bathrooms in the back are very small with a common sink outside the bathroom stalls. The menu offerings include typical breakfast fare (eggs, omelets, pancakes, French toast, etc), hot & cold sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, soups, salads, sides, and homemade desserts. The prices here are pretty reasonable, many items under $6 and most of the breakfast specials include coffee. We arrived here around 10:15AM on a typical Wednesday and sat ourselves in a booth, menu at the table. We were offered coffee ($1.25) shortly after we sat down. The coffee was just right. The food we had was pretty good. I had a breakfast special: 1 egg (scrambled/broken), grilled homefries (fresh cut), grilled sausage patty. buttered white toast, and coffee ($3.80). My friend decided to order lunch and enjoyed a BLT ($3.05) and a Tossed Salad ($2.40) in a small wood bowl. The check for 2 people came out to $10.50 with tax and before tip. Note, we were charged $4.25 for the breakfast special instead of $3.80, but not charged for the ala carte $1.25 coffee. All set! The service was good and prompt. We were also given refills/topoffs on the coffee, which was much appreciated since we still had a long day of driving, well beyond Jamestown. Overall, the Harris Diner is a pretty awesome place to go for the "best breakfast in town," lunch, and good coffee, especially if you're a diehard NY Yankees and NY Giants fan. He had it John Wayne style, which means chili and cheese on top. It was quite large and excellent. I ordered their blueberry pancakes with a slice of ham. Also, very large and tasty. They make their own iced tea--no soda fountain tea here!! It was very dark and rich. My husband said that they also have very good coffee. One thing I noted was how quickly the food came after our order. We were not unique. I noticed many were also served quickly. Service is great. I don't usually like syrup on pancakes and when I asked, they gave me something else other than syrup. We talked with some of our friends who come to Becky's almost daily and they said that the diner starts their order as soon as they sit down (because it doesn't change very often), and it comes out within a few minutes of sitting down. There are lots of booths along the walls and tables in the center. Vinyl tablecloths are used. Very practical. They have indoor and outdoor seating, which is really nice in the summer and fall. They are open for breakfast and lunch. The owner keeps a food pantry outside the door. I think this is one of the best breakfast places around. 5 stars as it is everything you'd expect in a breakfast/lunch diner plus great service and friendly atmosphere.

The whole brunch was quite a heart warming experience. Salt of the earth people who were so very friendly and instantly love-able. Seven tables in the quaint little restaurant and two outside. All but one large table of 6 were taken. A local couple offered to have us share their table. It was such a sweet gesture. As it turned out a smaller table did open up and was quickly cleared. We sat there. The menu had breakfast and lunch options. Prices were like from the 70's. We opted for basic eggs, toast homefries, sausage and coffee. All was quickly served and coffee refilled. Jen (the owner) was present and as sweet as could be. She seemed to enjoy getting to know her customers. Other patrons were engaging and friendly as well. We were blown away how friendly everyone was. It certainly added to the charm of this little place and made our travels memorable. Not sure the people realize just how special they made us feel. This is truly a hidden gem.

My wife and I had the pork loin special (don't recall exact name). Probably the tastiest pork I've ever had! Really!! The sides were just as yummy. We both agreed it was a seriously good meal. Other couple had Ciopinno and seafood czarina. They both loved them and shared a taste with the table. Have to agree, they were fabulous. Our waitress was timely, attentive, and friendly! No issues at all. Due to impending snow storm, they reduced prices on entrees and drinks. A nice bonus. The Good: Beer selection was pretty good. My request was tapped out, but it turned out, the replacement was even better. A delicious nut brown ale. Wines were also very good albeit a tad pricey. The price special mentioned above helped. Overall bill was on the high side partly due to the drinks and slightly higher prices for the non-special meals - even with the price breaks. Needs work. We were two couples. Sat near the maître d' podium. The inside door of the foyer kept sticking open. Had to get up to close several times as it was about 5 degrees outside. Not a huge issue but should not have been an issue at all. Slightly more annoying was the noise level. The restaurant was full and very noisy. It was a bit challenging to have a conversation at our location. It eventually quieted down and all was well. Definitely something that needs improvement though. I gave it 5 stars due to the excellent meal and service. Considered dropping one star for the noise and price, but the meal was so good, I just couldn't do it. Looking forward to going back.

Neither dish was impressive or even memorable. We gave it another try for lunch about a month ago. I had the stuffed French toast and fries for the table to share. The portion of the fries for the table was very small, the smallest portion of fries we've seen. And they were average at best. The stuffed French toast was extremely sweet and I didn't really enjoy it. My wife had the house salad and said it was wonderful. The lunchtime waitress was disinterested and the service was slow for that lunch and average for dinner. We doubt we'll return. The Parkview hotel is our new go for meals when visiting Owego NY.
