We stopped in for the pub grub on our way north, and it was a fun pit stop! The beer/cider was great as expected, but the food was just mediocre. The burger was overcooked (medium well as opposed to medium rare) and the fries weren't anything special. I had the tuna melt which was fine. We were seated by the fireplace, which was nice but meant we were ignored for long periods of time. I would recommend my friends to drop in, but not give them exceedingly high expectations. We'll be back for the tour though! read more

On my way from Montreal to Maine, had to find some stops along the way. This one is a bit out of the way but it was fun. They have lots of beer on tap to try. The place was kind of in a valley that felt a bit remote. I wonder how much this place is "on the way" for anybody. The food itself was decent, I had a sandwich. But the best part is the pretzel. You could literally just order the pretzel and comes with two dips that really tasted good. The mustardy dip was very potent. There is a "self guided" tour, but basically you stand in a cordoned off space to look at the factory. But it was fully operational with bottles being packaged. read more

Had dinner in a Wednesday night in August and service was great, food was excellence and we enjoyed the environment. Tried to go back last weekend and it was a mad house, couldn't even get a growler from the bar to go without waiting 15-20 minutes. Was disappointing but will not stop me from going back on a quite evening vs a weekend. read more

An awesome brewery in the countryside. In the middle of Vermont, you pull up to a place that has become a true destination. We were there on a Friday night and the place was packed. There was really actually great live music and much beer to be had. Unfortunately, we found out quickly, that Harpoon's regular selection of beer is...not very good. None of their normal beers really made an impression on any of us. That's what happens when you're brewery gets too big and successful I guess. However, what saved Harpoon is that, when they really try, they actually do make great stuff. What we sampled from their "Leviathan Series", which should be code for "we actually took time to do this right" showed what they were capable of. The Imperial IPA and the Belgian Quad were beautifully crafted and completely redeeming. Great job. Bonus points: There is this crazy, totally Vermont hippy weirdo "nature park" towards the back of the parking lot next to the creek/river. It's very excellent and includes one of those mazes made from bushes like you see in Versailles - and it's challenging at that! Don't skip out on this! read more

Been here a couple times now and food is consistently good. They have a mix of salads, sandwiches and burgers. Last time I was here, I got the Rachel, which is essentially a Reuben but made with Smoked Turkey in place of the Corned Beef (watching my figure). The sandwich was not overly greasy as Reubens typically can be. Beers are tasty as always, tried their Raspberry UFO which was perfect on the warm summerlike day! Servers are casual and friendly. Their outside patio is a group of large picnic style seating overlooking the green grounds that surround this little alcove area. They stream music out to the patio which makes it even more fun. I've heard that they have special pizza nights and live entertainment on the weekends. I'd check out more if I lived back this way but I make sure to make a visit each time I'm in the area. read more

Been here a few times with my family and it has never disappointed. Great food and drinks in addition to a nice atmosphere. Plus the gift store has cool merchandise read more

WARNING- DIRTY TAPS. Went here with girlfriends and 3 of us got food poisoning almost immediately upon going home after only having 1 BEER EACH. I contacted management about this, as we would be surprised to hear we were the only ones to get sick, and they told us they were "launching an investigation." After I reached out again one week later to ask what had come of said investigation, the manager told me no one else had been sick and that she hoped that we would feel comfortable returning in the future. I was sick all weekend, so no, I'm not in the mood to rush back and would appreciate a refund. Can't wait to contact the state's board of health :) read more

I love this place! We stopped for lunch on the way to St. Goddins Historical site. We didn't take the tour but lunch was amazing. I had the black bean burger and their cider, I really enjoyed them both. My friends tried several different types of beers and they really enjoyed them. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice meal that's not too expensive. read more

Service was ok, I ordered pull pork sandwich was not impressed. It was dry and cold not hot at all the sweet potato fries are nice and the drinks pretty good but that's about it. The look and layout of the place looks nice. But needs some improvements on the food end. Nick read more

Great addition and nice to know that they purchased the building from a prior mom and pop brewery to preserve it's intended structural use. Harpoon proprietary hops are wicked good. And the friendly attitude exuding from all touch points of the company, I.e, guide staff, brewers, retail employees adds to the entire brewery experience! read more

Loved this place! So many choices of beers ... food was great ... I had the pretzel for appetizer and wings for my entree. Both my husband did two different samplers of the beer and we liked majority of them! Also the plaza has many other local shoppes to check out! read more

Harpoon Brewery - Breweries Near Me - Windsor, Vermont

So my significant other and I decided to check this place out on a trip to Vermont during the Fall of 2020 and to our surprise they advertised that their would be music and decorations the entire weekend. Well the decorations were there but no music and not an overall Oktoberfest feel was preset. We began with some beers she got the Flannel Friday and it was very tasty and I got the Oktoberfest which was served in a mini half liter Stien. As for the food she ordered the fried chicken sandwich which was under cooked and has copious amounts of fat on it! While I opted with the Texas brisket sandwich with beans I was advised that the beans were sweet similar to baked beans but I found them to be not that flavorful or sweet. As for the Brisket it was very overcooked and cold with excess fat on it. Brisket is supposed to fall apart in your mouth not require a strong jaw. Stay away from these two items!! Unfortunately after a long car ride in from out of town the only thing I would recommend was the beer. Hopefully this post helps you guys from being disappointed. read more

If you search my profile, you can see that I love Harpoon's Boston location. I love their beer. A++, five gold stars, Siskel & Ebert give it two thumbs up. This is about the food and the service. I wasn't impressed. I got the pulled pork, which while made with my beloved Harpoon Cider, was not as beloved. I wanted more sweetness! Fries were average, and the server forgot that I had ordered them. We got a side platter free of charge. I had just climbed a mountain (ascutney) and I wanted something warm and filing! We ordered the sampler plus the Pumpkin UFO. I get that it makes it easier for the bartender to pour the samples if they are all the same...but I can get the freakin' Harpoon IPA ev.ery.where. I'm so over it. I'd love to be able to make some selections! Be sure to wander the grounds, a bit as well! read more

Friendly bartenders, great food and amazing beer! What more could you ask for? We went on the first tour on a Sunday afternoon and were the only ones there so we got the royal treatment! They give the left over grains from brewing to the dairy farm nearby and use the cheese on their dishes. Try the poutine! The fries are double fried, and crispy enough they hold up to the gravy. So good. Beer battered fish and chips are flaky, fresh and come with tangy tarter sauce. Good stuff. read more

Five! As always for all! Beer, food, tour, service, seating inside/outside whatever the season!

Fantastic brewpub. Awesome atmosphere. Will definitely return. Found this place randomly when driving back from Maine. I'd heard of harpoon beer before and figured we could drop in for lunch. Was definitely not disappointed. My burger was amazing and the beer was great. There were all kinds of people in the pub as well. Hikers, bikers, business people taking meetings, it was really to cool to see such a wide demographic. I had an awesome time here and will definitely return, possibly making the 8 hour drive just to return to harpoon. read more

This review is for the restaurant; we did not do the tour. Went at about 7:30 on a Friday night. It was busy but we were seated right away. The atmosphere is that of many restaurants that are after-thoughts to a production facility--cold and just a step above cafeteria-ish. That's fine if the food is good--one of my favorite fish restaurants in Boston is like this, as it was an after-thought to a fishmonger's processing facility. I digress. We ordered the UFO Pumpkin and a root beer. Both were fine. We had the pretzel app, which was amazing--doughy salty deliciousness--and the clam chowder, which was also delish--there's a secret something in there that brightens the flavor nicely. We both ordered a bacon cheeseburger medium with fries, and I ordered the Octoberfest, which was so incredibly bitter. Yuck. The fries were great--the kind that are dipped in something or twice-fried or whatever so they are super crispy and good. The burger was delivered medium well and dry as a hockey puck. The bacon was dry as leather. There was way too much bun for the burger. All in all, the burger was terrible. I don't know if the kitchen was having a off night or what, but based on our dinner, I'd say find somewhere else to eat. read more

Had lunch here and it was awesome!! Great beer...exceptional food! If your near Windsor VT, you should check this place out! You won't be disappointed! Emily F. Waited on us... and she's wonderful! read more

UGH. Had really high hopes for this place, drove over an hour for an afternoon lunch just to be disappointed. We had the nachos with pulled pork and pretzel as an appetizer. Honestly the pretzel was the only thing eatable. For entrees we tried the clam chowder, lamb burger and lobster poutine. The poutine was so fishy smelling that led me to believe it had gone bad. The table next to us also sent theirs back, the dish should probably be taken off the menu. The beers were fine, service was nothing special. I wouldn't return or recommend. read more

This place is my favorite brewery tour. They do a great job educating on the brewing process and the samples are pretty good. All staff are friendly and helpful. My only concern is how do I get notified when they release a Catamount beer? That was my favorite before they went out of business! read more

If you're in the area I highly suggest stopping in to the harpoon brewery for some great beers. We loved the tour, but keep an eye on the time/date. They only do tours on Friday and Saturday and close early on the weekend. Live music Thursday evenings. Try the Leviathan series for a special treat. Also a fan of the Catamount Maple Wheat. Kid friendly. Badminton court outside as well as large patio and fire pit area (very convenient when wait times are long) Located next to river of life sculpture garden, vodka distillery, canoe rentals, cheese/specialty shop, and down the road from Simon Pierce glass blowing factory. You can definitely turn this in to a half day/day excursion in VT. Note: Outside of brews and water they only offer root beer - so if you have a soda drinking DD who doesn't like root beer - plan ahead. Also - the food menu is marginal - it's a bit overpriced- you're paying a little extra for atmosphere so as long as you know before you go you'll be in good shape. Finally - BBQ fest happens one weekend a year in July - it was money well spent. Check it out. read more

This place is so great. Came here summer 2014, and the 3 staffmembers who gave the tour were terrific. Very friendly and patient with one tour guest who was clearly drunk and annoying.... The tastings on the tour (& included mini glass) are well worth the $5. They were really informative about the brew process and let you sample a good number of beers. If there was something you didn't get to sample in the tour tasting area, then the bartender at the front will let you sample some other ones for free. Speaking of bartenders, ours was awesome! He heard what we liked on the tour, then made us a black and tan type concoction which was amazing. They were as generous as the Boston Harpoon. This and Allagash were the absolute best tours I've done (and I've done a bunch: shipyard, redhook, sam adams, jacks abby, blue hills, wachusett, and more). read more

The tour and the food were fine if you've been to a brewery, this is nothing special with regard to those two things. As for their beer, it was absolutely worth the trip. They've got a serious selection on draft, growlers to take home, as well as an assortment of bottled offerings. read more

Came here while on vacation with my fiancé. We sat at a table, ordered food, then asked to move to the bar. I felt bad because I think we messed up the waitress by doing that. Sorry! (she was really sweet about it, though). Bartender was super friendly and easy to talk to. Tried just about every beer. Got a couple of flights and some good seasonal beers. A good time was had by all. The beers are VERY reasonably priced, since they brew them there on site. The food was really good! We split a pulled pork sandwich and fries, both were delicious. The pulled pork was nice and tender and the fries were crispy with just the right amount of salt. Even the cole slaw was good! And I'm not usually a person who even notices cole slaw on my plate. We got some glasses on our way out the door. We'll definitely come back on our next trip! read more

I love the beer here! The bar tenders are extremely polite and chatty. I feel as if the best time to come to harpoon is in the summer time. I always get a burger prepared to my liking and some wings with a harpoon dark. My g/f and I usually hang out and grab another brew and hang by the fire or just veg out on the picnic tables. It's a great environment. This place gets packed around normal dining hours, it can be a little frustrating waiting for a table due to people just hanging out after dining. read more

I have been to Harpoon several times over the years. The beer is great and service also great but the food was really sub par not near as good as it used to be. Also I own a couple women's tshirts that I love from Harpon. Bought one this time and i am really disappointed it's not soft it's almost scratchy and will likely shrink after one wash. Bums me out as I love my old shirts. Men's shirt my husband got was still a nice quality read more

Stopped in for dinner as we were driving through VT. Nice outdoor patio. Big area with fun lawn games like badminton and cornhole. As expected, broad selection of Harpoon beers. Food was above average for a brewpub. Good burgers. read more

I cannot rate the food as I did not eat here (but it looked good!) but can speak on the facilities itself and the tour which we took... The tour was a great way to spend an hour of your time here and was definitely worth the $5! The staff here and tour guides were very friendly and knowledgeable...they took the time to not only explain the history of the company but also the beer making process including a tour out on the production floor...you end the tour with plenty of free samples of any of the beers they have on tap...again, well worth the $5! They also sell a decent selection of merchandise and beverages in the store area. As for the restaurant side, overall the place was very clean, had a nice layout, and a nice laid back/chill type of atmosphere. If you are in the area I highly suggest stopping by for a tour. Two days before this tour I also toured Magic Hat in Burlington and (no offense to them) this tour was 10x better! read more

As expected the beer was great. The setting was very nice, clean and had plenty of seating. I wish, even thought it is a beer joint, that it would be a bit more family friendly. There were no changing tables ing the bathrooms, and the bathroom floors were gross!! The had no changing tables or kids menu, but yes at least 1/2 of the tables had families with kids. They have, as expected a great beer menu. Harpoon makes great beers and have some beers here that are not readily available In your local packie. I thought then food was good. The hummus plate was nice, but not fresh made hummus. I had a bacon cheddar cheeseburger that was nice and properly prepared to my liking. My wife had the vermonter which was great and hey even changed it per her special request. Christina (sp) our server was very help, nice and friendly. She had a good knowledge of the beers. I have been to both locations or harpoon and really enjoyed having a nice sit down lunch with table service at this location. I have been to lots of breweries, but harpoon has done a great job with this locations read more

This is my kinda tour. I went here and it was a dollar I believe, and you tour the whole place, they let you into fermentation rooms, all over the brewhouse floor. Into the warehouses, everywhere. They make you feel like you're a friend and they want you to approve of their new endevour. Then the fun part, tasting. They give you a sample glass, i think it was 6 oz. You have 30 minutes to drink as much as you want, and all their stuff is on tap.... This is the tour, I went to the Boston one as well as Vermont. Both are virtually the same. AWESOME. I'm not even the hugest fan or Harpoon, besides their IPA. But they had some beers that were great! read more

Maybe I was just here on an off day or something.I love Harpoon, especially their Boston location. Never had a bad experience there and have recommended it to there who have also enjoyed it....Vermont? Not so much. The tour was okay - we had loud children so it was difficultt hear the speaker at times. The tour guides did seem bored/exhausted but I'll give them that it was the 430 tour on a Saturday (been there, done that, and its NOT easy). Food - our waitress "forgot"us several times...as in forgot to bring my beer but didn't forget to add it to the bill and definitely didn't forget her attitude or annoyance when I pointed out the charged drink when the bill came. The food itself was just alright (mozzarella sticks were tasty though). Lastly, and I take responsibility for our mistake, we took the restaurant glasses (instead of the brewery glasses you get at the end of the tour) by accident. We get to the car only to have an extremely rude security person come up, place his hands on my car and accuse us of stealing. I showed him the glasses we took and explained we thought they were the complimentary ones from the tour- and again e accused us of stealing. He identified himself as security but was not wearing a Harpoon shirt nor offered ID. I didn't want a scene in a parking lot (people were staring since he was legit yelling)so I handed over the glasses and drove away feeling humiliated and ashamed over something that was an honest mistake. I won't be recommending the Vermont location in the future, unless people don't mind being accused of stealing. read more

I love breweries and I like Harpoon beers very much. I was very excited to visit Harpoon during our stay in Vermont and for the most part it was very good. The dining area was clean and there were enough activities for groups to stay and enjoy for long periods of time (corn hole and a variety of board games). I ordered the Reuben sandwich and it was very good. Also, I ended up ordering the Staff flight that included Hoppy Adventure, a very tasty DIPA and my favorite of the flight. The one thing that left a bad taste in my mouth about the visit was the hummus appetizer. The hummus dip was delicious, but the carrots that were served with the dip were rotten. My fiancée first bit into one and immediately spat it out. Then I put my nose near them and the carrots smelled rancid. I know it wasn't deliberately done and probably 99 times out of 100 the carrots wouldn't be bad, but it was the one glaring fault during our visit. I would have given the brewery four stars if we didn't have this issue. read more

Had a great time here over the weekend. The building is a large clean building, with plenty of room to absorb customers. We got two sampler flights and a pretzel and enjoyed them all. The staff was very friendly and helpful, attentive and willing to discuss the different beers. Brewery tours are on the hour, we kept forgetting to wait for the tour, and ended up remembering a few minutes late each time. It was cold and snowy when we went, but it looked like a great place to hang out on a warm day. There was a lot of outdoor seating and patios. On cold days, they do have an indoor fireplace you can sit near. read more

Second time there in three years and I need to go more often. Great atmosphere (seems always full!). Less than 15 minute wait for table. Friendly service. Food was worth the wait, but the whole point of the place is to drink their brews while you wait. There is a giant white board that not only lists all of their beers, but states the average alcohol content. I went with the raspberry Hefeweizen while my wife had their famous root beer. Both were great. This time I had the pulled pork, soaked in their hard cider, and my wife went with the authentic fish and chips. Both excellent. The Cole slaw was the best I have ever eaten, made by a 75 year old woman in their kitchen, using her grandmother's recipe. Everyone there was happy, staff and patrons alike. Awesome place for lunch, even for kids. To add to the experience: take the brew tour before or after your meal. It's right there and was well worth it when we were there three years ago. read more

The tour is great, definitely worth taking. The restaurant is good, not great. Best thing is their beers and cider on tap. The food was mediocre. I ordered the black bean burger and my husband had a barbecue chicken sandwich. They were skimpy with a tiny piece of lettuce on them, not crunchy it was wilted. The black bean burger was dry. Aside from the food, drinks, entertainment and staff were great. They give you free samples if you want to try out a couple of different beers before you order one. read more

Drove up to Vermont for a couple of days while attending a 5 week seminar in Amherst, MA. We've been drinking a bit of Harpoon, which I was previously unfamiliar with since I'm from AZ, so when I saw signage for the brewery while driving back I detoured. Great experience! I'd barely missed the last tour but they graciously hustled me into the bowels of the brewery to catch the tour in progress. Cat, Neville and the rest of the tour staff were informative, exceedingly friendly and happy to keep the multitude of tap samples coming. Don't miss out on the Bavarian style dark and the Leviathan IPA! The only reason it's four stars and not five is the restaurant experience. I ordered it medium rare and it came almost well done, which is a major buzz kill if you like to taste the meat instead of the bun and the lettuce. The waitress kind of shrugged and said that she'd made it clear on the order so I assume that meant "tough luck--enjoy the burger as best you can". Whatever. I was there for the beer anyway. I'll be singing the praises of Harpoon back West until we are fortunate to be able to buy it. One final anecdote. I forgot my little tasting glass and didn't discover it until this morning back here in Massachusetts. I called and spoke with the restaurant manager who graciously took down my info and promised to send me a replacement all the way out to Arizona. That's service with a smile, and I truly appreciate their desire to go the extra mile for a guy like me who they'll likely never see again. Great people, great beer, great experience. read more
