I was extremely happy with Derren's work! He came out, gave a very competitive quote and listened to my needs. I was getting married soon and needed the bathroom finished before the big day. He was able to get the job done in time and did an impeccable job. Derren did all of the work himself which I was very happy with. You could tell he offered a quality product from the very beginning. His suggestions along the way really helped complete our vision. We had our master bathroom remodeled with another company before Derren. We wanted the same exact style in both and you can definitely tell a difference in quality. In our master bathroom we hired a general contractor. We never met the tile guy until the day he showed up, so we had no idea what type of work he did. I was very happy that Derren quoted the job and did all the work himself. I would not hesitate to hire him for any of my future work. read more

We spent the last several years completely remodeling our home one small section at a time. We were finally ready to have someone come in and help us finish the last phase of the remodel which included 2 bathrooms, a fireplace, and several other small tasks that still needed to be done around the house. We met with various contractors and ultimately decided to move forward with Harper Stone and Tile. The pictures speak for themselves (see the before photo at the end). They did a stellar job transforming our bathrooms. Taking a shower or a bath feels like we're in a spa. They also did a wonderful job updating our fireplace and adding in extra cabinets. Throughout the remodel, we continued to add to the list of things that needed to be done and Derren and his team were able to accommodate all of our on-going requests. His team showed up on time, was respectful of our house, and completed the project in a reasonable amount of time. read more

Harper Stone and Tile is the most amazing company. Perfect craftsmanship, very communicative, and Derren (the owner) is so detail oriented. Please see the pictures of our new guest shower. Everything lines up beautifully and looks phenomenal. Please notice the detail in the pattern, all grout lines are lined up flawlessly. The experience was outstanding. Derren and his team took great care to work in a very clean manner and even provided a paper cover to and from the bathroom so nothing dirty ever came in contact with our floors. I would highly recommend Harper Stone and Tile. I can't wait to do our master bathroom with Harper Stone and Tile in the future. read more

Darren is great to work with! Not only is he professional but he is honest. We are remodeling and it's always very hard to find good contractors. I'd recommend him to anyone! His work is clean and precise and was completed exactly when he said it would be. He went above and beyond for us! We are very picky about small details and he took the extra time to make sure everything was beyond perfect. We will be using him for other jobs whenever possible! Wish he could do the whole remodel for us haha read more

We found Derren on yelp and we are extremely pleased with his work. Our kitchen was pretty beaten up and in desperate need of repair and a new backsplash. Derren spent at least an hour at our home on a Saturday evening to give us a quote (free of charge) and educate us on everything we needed to know about his work, and specifically the tile and design we had chosen for our backsplash. After getting some quotes from others, we chose to go with Derren because of his honesty, confidence, and knowledge of the material. Within a week after the quote he was able to begin work on our kitchen. Not only did he lay a BEAUTIFUL backsplash but he also spent a good day repairing the damage we had done when we removed our previous backsplash. The three days he worked for us he was kind, courteous, (especially towards our jerk of a dog who just wanted to attack him), and efficient with his work. Once the project was complete everything was cleaned up and put back exactly where it was. We are so happy with his work we are having him come back to do more tile work around our fireplace. read more

We hired Derren to re-do our shower. He did a great job and was able to get it done quick. They were knowledgeable and professional through the entire job. Would definitely recommend Derren to friends and family. read more

Fantastic work. Skilled, polite, professional, honest, and efficient. Darren retiled our shower area to the ceiling and a difficult off square window next to our shower perfectly. He was always on time, produced excellent work, worked quickly and was a pleasure to work with. My wife and I have dogs & we both work from home, Darren was so easy to work with because of his attention to detail. Beyond his skill, he would mix materials, or make necessary prep of tiles or drywall in our garage so as not to disturb the household. He was friendly with our dogs, clean, and he genuinely enjoyed listening to our music in the house while he worked. My wife and I recommend him to anyone looking for a top level tile installation pro in the North Phoenix area. We will absolutely recommend him to anyone & use Darren again in the future for projects. read more

Continuing from 12/07/17...The first time my husband and I met with Darren he was very helpful in educating us about the difference between rectified and unrectified wood plank tile. Derren made it known he preferred to work with unrectified tile, but would still take on a job and complete quality work using rectified tile. Derren did say he would charge 50 cents more per square foot if we chose rectified tile. Derren provided us with vendors he uses for the tile and even suggested a tile he had previously installed. After a couple of weeks of tile hunting we chose a Marazzi porcelain RECTIFIED tile. I called Derren and told him we were okay with paying the extra cost for the rectified tile. Derren assured us the Marazzi tile was a good quality tile and we would be happy with the results. Well, the tile comes in, Derren goes to pick up the tile, but returns to our home saying the tile is defective. Derren believes the tile is "bowed" and encourages us to choose new tile. Derren again suggests the tile he previously installed for another customer. We told Derren we would go look for new tile if the tile we selected was defective. I ask Derren about the return and refund on the tile and if we will have any issues. Derren advised he would speak with the vendor and call me. I never heard from Derren, although I left him at least one message. I would have thought this was a priority being the flooring in our home had already been removed and the amount of money we paid for the tile. No call. My husband and I go see the vendor and explain to a very helpful gal we needed to find out about returning the defective tile. The vendor tells us there will be a restocking fee of $700-750. I questioned the fee, as Derren said the tile was defective. The gal immediately said, "it's not defective." Long story short, the vendor had contacted the manufacturer's local representative who came out, looked at the tile and said the tile was better than specs. The gal also said they have sold over 80,000sqft of the tile we selected and they have not had any returned! I have a flashback to checking Derren's Registar of Contractor record (for Harper Stone and Tile) and realize this should have been my first light bulb moment and clue NOT to hire Derren! His license had previously been expired or suspended for various reasons. Anyway, my husband calls Derren from the vendor. No answer. Message left for Derren to call. On our way home Derren calls. He seems bewildered as to why the tile couldn't be returned without a restocking fee and offers to pay $400. Obviousy, he never attempted to call the vendor about the return or he would have already been aware of the fee or maybe he just thought we were stupid, would pay the fee and find another tile. With that being said, we offered Derren an out and told him we would understand if he didn't want to do the job. No hard feelings. Well, Derren's response was that he needed the job. Or, was it he needed to pick up his saw that was still at our home? ( Light bulb moment number two)!! The next day, Derren shows up late and meets with my husband. My husband gives Derren a second opportunity to opt out of the job with no hard feelings and addresses our expectations of a quality installation, rectified tile or otherwise. Derren advised he was still willing to complete the job. (Mind you, Derren's tile saw had been set up in our garage for the past couple of days while the job was on hold). Derren continues his work, throws float on the floor in our bedroom and does not smooth out the edges so there is an obvious lip when it drys. Derren mentioned his grinder was broke. Derren sits in the bedroom and purposely works vigorously on chipping the tile and then shows my husband how it chips. Derren quietly walks outside, packs his saw and equipment. My husband confronts Derren asking him if he was leaving. Derren says yes. I don't believe Derren had any intentions of completing the job. I'm pretty sure he just wanted to get his saw back!! Derren is told we wanted a refund for work not performed, a reasonable request. An agreement was made on the amount to be returned. We received partial payment that night, but as previously stated in original review, we waited for the balance to be paid after Christmas because Derren said he did not have the money. (But yet, it was okay for us to have our home in shambles at Christmas time! I wouldn't call us difficult people, would you? Derren believes we are)! So, this was the gist of it! There were a couple of other shenanigans, but I was out of typing space, so had to shorten up the horrible experience! In the end, no thanks to Derren (Harper Stone and Tile), but we did end up with beautiful floors and a quality installation! Should anyone need an honest and reputable contractor who completes quality work, please feel free to message me! Oh, and we saved money too!! read more

We are very happy with our Kitchen backsplash that Derren installed this week. His pricing was fair and the project was completed in less than 2 days. The kitchen wall surface was uneven and a bit challenging, but Derren made the tiles fit perfectly and we are very satisfied with the overall look. Would definitely recommend Darren and his company. read more

Harper Stone & Tile just completed a glass tile backsplash in our kitchen. When I first contacted Derren, I explained the job to him. He asked me to send photos of the kitchen and he would email me an estimate. He was very prompt about sending his estimate and readily answered all of the questions we had about the job and his quote. He said they could most likely get the job completed in one day and they did! The crew was there on time and worked all day. Derren was very patient in explaining the process and answering some more questions we had that day. He also helped us select our grout color. The workmanship was excellent and we are extremely pleased with the finished product. I would definitely recommend Derren and Harper Stone & Tile. read more

I have done my homework checking out tile installers. Darren was very straight forward, honest and reliable. He did not ask for payment upfront. I was looking to install about 900 SF. of tile. Darren came over, gave me an estimate and we scheduled for about a month out so i could remove the old carpet and tile. He arrived as scheduled. We set aside 5 days to get it completed, it was done in 4. The whole time he was professional, took great care in setup, even worked around a few pieces of furniture we had no place to move.To address the few reviews that commented on no answer or delayed call back, Darren is working to complete the job, on his knee's doing layout, placement, cutting and grouting. Cut him a break, I did. I expected immediate response, when I did not receive it, I was impatient. I spoke to him about it, he was very concerned and we moved forward. His priority is getting your job done. After seeing him work, and the finished product, I'm very happy he did the job. We will be calling to do kitchen back splash, and bathrooms. Thanks again.
