On Feb 8th, I learned that P. had left HARP for points unknown. This was distressing because P had been helping resolve the serious problems relating to the installation of a new $14,000 boiler in my home's steam heating system in his role Sales Manager. In order dated June 8, 2021 intended to resolve these frustrating problems, P. l had directed HARP technicians to complete the insulation on the supply and return pipes, to complete repairs on two radiators which had become dysfunctional, and to take detailed steps to address the flooding that began after the boiler replacement after 24 years of no issues in that area. P. l was the first person at HARP to take a constructive approach to the problems after much frustration on my part and what I perceived to be incompetence and dissimulation from HARP. In this process, I had sent 33 emails to HARP technicians in an effort to get them to complete the installation of the boiler. It has also come to my attention that HARP's installation of a sump pump to address the flooding problems does not seem to be in compliance with the 2018 State of Connecticut Building Code. After learning of P's departure, I was finally able to get someone named R. on the phone to discuss the resolution of this problem moving forward, but neither he nor anyone else seemed to have any background information. R. said that he would get back to me in a day or two, but I haven't heard from him. I have also been unable to get his email address to contact him. I choose HARP to do the replacement because they had been maintaining my heating system since 1997 and since their sales presentation was based on detailed knowledge of my system and seemingly competent professional service. The HARP proposal was stated to be "all inclusive" covering "all accessories." The contract we executed again was "all inclusive," covered all necessary permits, and guaranteed "workmanship," "no surprises," and "100% satisfaction." No payment was required until completion. Things got off to a bad start when they dropped the 800 pound boiler on my basement stairs and sent it crashing through the wall. Since then it has seemed to me to be a sad story of incompetent work featuring delay, misinformation, and prevarication. I have tried to solve this problem in a friendly, reasonable manner, but have gotten nowhere. read more

Been a customer for over 10 years. Have had nothing but problems with my Heat Pump which has a major leak in it causing it to keep freezing up. Tech recommend I replace the unit as it's not worth it to fix at this point. I \ already had to replace the condenser coil at less than 8 years due to a leak. The comfort advisor came out a week later looks at my unit and says it should have been lifted due to snow and mulch/dirt. I remind him that HARP installed it in the first place 10 years ago. I'm given a hand written quote with lots of alleged discounts and math on it. Then came high pressure to sign an agreement right there including knocking other HVAC businesses in the area. I called and cancelled my priority partner plan and will he taking my business elsewhere. I've never had an issue with any of the techs sent to my home but the "comfort advisor" made me feel like I was buying a used car. read more

We had a small issue with our furnace when we bought the house and when they tuned up our furnace, they threw it in as maintenance. Install - 1st Week of February * Electrician ran line through ceiling joists well, but did not clean up insulation that had fallen during the job * Before getting the boiler installed, the salesman said that the servicemen would be clearing everything out of the boiler room and putting all new piping. While the piping is new, they didn't remove the plastic tubing that was somehow connected through the floor of the boiler room. Instead, they tucked it behind some stuff (washer and dryer) I had, now making it impossible to close the side doors of the boiler room (closet) Service 1 - 2nd Week of February * The first serviceman that came out seemed a bit inexperienced, but managed to fix the problem with the Aquastat. However, when asked if I should approach the company for a discount for having something break in less than 2 weeks from the install date, the guy told me that I should be happy it was fixed and that Harp may turn around and charge me an additional $1000 for replacing with a better Aquastat. This pissed me off. * When requesting backup, no one was available. All management were unresponsive as well. * In addition, it was one of the coldest days of the year. When the serviceman got to my house, he preceded to sit in his truck for over 30 minutes in my driveway, despite already being several minutes late. Pissed off, I went outside and knocked on his window and insisted that he come in and take a look. When asked, he said that the paperwork seemed to be done incorrectly and he was looking for someone to fix it. No one seemed to respond. Service 2 - 3rd week of February * The 2nd serviceman came out and told us that the boiler was boiling rich and that part of the installation was done wrong, causing soot to build up in the lines, making the flame seem like it was out. He spent nearly 2 hours replacing stuff and changing the settings so that the boiler would work properly. Service 3 - 4th week of February * 2 days of cold. No one available to come out on Friday. This being the 3rd incident in 3 weeks from install, the dispatcher said that no one would be available until Sunday and that a manager would be calling me around 8:15 pm on Friday night. * 3 hours later, I called back and a different dispatcher said that managers don't work nights and that the manager would call me first thing Saturday morning * Dispatch called me at 7:45 AM Saturday morning and told me they had a cancellation and were sending someone out. When asked if a manager would be calling me, they said that managers don't work the weekend and will call on Monday. * The boiler was having the same problem as before with no flame. The serviceman later told me that the work that the 2nd serviceman was complete and required tightening. I am not confident that this fixed the problem, only delaying another service. I don't see Kevin making a stupid mistake like that, given how long he was there on the 2nd service and how focused he was. * Then, to make matters worse, knowing that it was 18 degrees outside, the serviceman kept leaving the door open as he went in and out of the house. Our only heat was coming from our fireplace and it was in the low 50s inside as it was. He also left all the lights on and gave a poor explanation as to why everything wasn't tight Calling all managers * on 2/25, I called manager back about issues I have been having with boiler. Nicole (secretary) said that a manager will call me back within the next 24 hours. Apparently no managers work Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays. So if anyone has any issues, don't bother calling. They will just send an email and you'll get no response until they are good and ready. 2/28/2022 Still no response from the Windsor, CT service manager, Kaitlyn. My wife called her once more this afternoon and still no manager available. The $15,000 lemon is still unresolved and wouldn't wish this nightmare on anyone! My advice: RUN! Where's my W2? i had them come put in a gas line for me because oil was becoming much too inconvenient. They do okay work but their customer service is atrocious. It all started with scheduling the gas company to come out. Apparently that was my job...the customer. I called/emailed CNG for weeks to get it scheduled. I called during work hours and was placed on long holds that led me nowhere, until i eventually got hold of someone who was able to add me to their spring installation schedule. i coordinated them and HARP to get together by myself. If it was up to HARP i still wouldn't have natural gas right now. That's how lazy they are. My other issue with them involves their propane tank. They lent me a temporary propane tank to ease my transition to gas (how thoughtful). They offered to pay the first bill which they didn't. They just kept going back and forth with Stateline Propane passing the blame to each other; each telling me to take it up with the other company. And 1 week before they put in the gas line i ended up buying propane because no one was keeping me informed. Luckily i knew Spring was coming so i didn't fill the tank. I still wasted over $130 on propane because of their terrible customer service. When i reached out about a refund they do what they always do..."take it up with Stateline Propane." Of course Stateline tells me to ask them. Both companies sending me back and forth like 2 divorced parents. They're currently picking up the tank now and all the propane i bought as well. This honest review is the only solace i get out of this experience. What i'd really like is a W2 read more

I have used Harp to maintain the furnaces in my duplex for last 15 years. They have installed a furnace and two hot water heaters for me over the years. The technicians have always been very professional and done a good job. I've never had to call them up to come back and fix something that they did. I've been a customer of HARP Home Services for close to 7 years and have only good to say about them. Service is excellent from office to technicians. I've had normal maintenance, and installations of hot water tank, a/c replacement, and furnace. Courteous, informative, answer all questions and offer help to understand how to make sure you know how your systems work. Highly recommend them. read more

If there was a zero star rating, I would give that. I messaged "SolveIt" on Home Advisor to inquire about servicing my residential central air conditioner. It was a Sunday and I wasn't expecting a response until during the week. Immediately my phone rings and the "agent" spends 30 minutes on the phone with me convincing me to use their service. She said that HARP would be coming out to do the work, that they partner with them and they are closer. I told her I read the unfavorable reviews and had not contacted HARP directly because of that. She insisted I would have no issues, they do top notch work, they would come at the scheduled time and would see the job out from start to finish. I took 1/2 day off from work to be home for this scheduled appointment only to be called approximately 45minutes from the tail end of their 4-hour service window by the tech that said they're swamped and he's not coming. Obviously, I would not recommend this company. read more

I scheduled a maintenance tune up for my air conditioning unit in the month of May and they gave me tomorrow for the date of service. I understand that amount of time given the volume of calls they said they were receiving. This morning I get a phone call from the scheduler saying they have to reschedule my service date due to the high volume of emergency calls they're receiving. Now they want to push my tune up back to sometime mid July! I switched with someone at work to be off tomorrow for my tune up. What's to stop them from "rescheduling" again in July? I will not be going with Harp again. They have no regard for those of us who actually make appointments and wait our turn. read more

Had a water leak coming from A.C. unit and I called HARP on Saturday morning and was informed a technician could be out on Saturday between 2pm and 6pm. Jaime informed me that it was $89 for service call and $25 for fuel charge and HARP does not charge by the hour but by the job. At 12pm I received a phone call from HARP dispatcher and i am told that the tech finished up his job early and would like to come over to our home, I informed her that we were not home, she said no problem we will see you at your schedule timeframe. Dispatcher called again at 1pm and asked if tech could head our way and I said yes, we were home. Courtney Ivey came out and arrived at 1:45pm, was very professional, personable, clean, wore slippers over his shoes, uniform was sharp looking, wore a mask, provided me with some great helpful hints, turns out I needed I condensate tank pump. He replaced the pump, took the old one away and paid for the part and service. I later saw on HARP website that they offered military discounts, so I called and spoke to a wonderful person named Debbie. I explained that we had just paid for service and was wondering if it was too late for HARP to provide the military discount, she said absolutely we can. She sent an e-mail to HARP billing department and asked I be credited 10%. I have to say little shocked at all the negative reviews. My experience was 100% hands down. read more

Okay, this company messed with me and now they messed with my son. The place is made up of a bunch of opportunistic, money-grubbing slugs. They used to be good years ago until being bought out by a money mill. I cut them off when my yearly services turned into a sales pitch for anything and everything. Today, my son (who's fiancé is home after an injury) had an issue with his boiler burner and no heat on a very cold day. I went to the property to try and start the burner with no success and found out they had already scheduled these Bumbs to come out, I was apprehensive and told them so, but they said they could make it today and that is all he was concerned with.... until the charge came. Sure, he paid as $175. emergency fee and he was okay with that. The problem lies in the fact the technician spent 30 minutes at the house and replaced the transformer, checked the filter and handed them a bill for over $700.!!!! Really....let's see, $700. - the emergency fee of $175. = $525 plus 30 minutes @ $150 hr. (being generous) $75.00. So, $525 - $75 = $450. So, the part that can be bought retail at Home Depot for $50. bucks (and you know they get it for wholesale) he was charged $450. Nice.....with friendly service like that who needs enemies. These guys are sharks and opportunists and if you use them good luck as their next victim. There is a good reason they get such a poor overall ratings. Had Harp come for seasonal furnace maintenance, the worker told me furnace was too old & wouldn't start. They sent someone to sell me a new furnace the next day. I called a local HVAC contractor, Campbell Heating, he light the pilot, changed the filter, checked the connections & monitored for CO2. Saving me, albeit temporarily, a little over $5,200. Who would believe that Harp wouldn't try to light the pilot during a routine maintenance visit. Pretty sad. Proof to me that knowing how to light a furnace pilot is not in Harps wheelhouse. Had them come for a maintenance call. The only thing that needed to be done was to replace a trap which I told them had been leaking. They charged an outrageous $219 for this! I looked up the cost of the part on line and saw it only cost between $10 - $20. I never should have agreed to it. I felt on the spot. They were here already on the maintenance call, which cost an additional $80 so another $200 to replace a trap seems way out of line. I left message with the Service Manager to complain. Received an estimate for replacing my furnace and central air unit. The salesmen went over 3 different options that were all very much overpriced. Then he tried a high pressure sales tactic, saying if I bought a package today there would be an almost 3k discount, but that would dissappear if I didn't decide that day. He even went as far as showing me a stupid company video! I wanted to talk it over with my husband and get other estimates. Little did the salesman man know is that I'm in the property management business and know what a furnace and A/C should cost, I felt as if he was taking advantage because I'm a women and he figured I didn't know any better! I was completely turned off by this sales tactic, and went with a more affordable, honest and straightforward company that gave us an honest estimate which was $8,000 lower than what was quoted. We used harp to service our ac unit When the tech examined our unit it needed only to be cleaned which we told them before they arrived. No other work was necessary. When finished we were presented with a bill over $300 including a $95 diagnosis charge. The tech told us we would get a discount if we were on Angies list. My 89-year-old father lives in an over-55 community in Tolland; I help him with managing his home and finances. HARP Home Services has been doing his yearly furnace and air conditioning service calls for the past few years. This October, after servicing his furnace, the technician told us that his unit had a cracked heat exchanger and it was so damaged that the furnace was unsafe to run, so the tech shut it down on a night when it was 40 degrees. The next morning I met with HARP's sales rep to get a quote on a new unit. Th Sales Rep refused to give us a price; he just insisted that he would beat any other quote we could get. After I insisted on a cost he finally quoted a high end replacement unit for $6400. We then had two other companies come in to check and neither could find a crack in the heat exchanger. I then checked with my father's neighbors, and 10 other families reported the same storyline regarding HARP. This company is preying on a vulnerable community of elderly people who may not have the knowledge or resources to fight back. Please stay away from HARP Home Services. read more

Horrible customer service! I went online and selected a date for a service appointment. When they called back to confirm, they could not come on the date I selected and the next available was a few weeks out. Then, they had to cancel that appointment the day before due to high volume of emergency calls. Tried to reach them two times to reschedule and either couldn't get through or was put on hold to "check the schedule" for a very long time. On my third attempt to get through, they told me the next available would be 6 weeks from the date they had cancelled on me. Going to schedule with another company that is more dependable and better customer service. read more

We have used HARP Home Servies for HVAC upkeep for 5+ years. We recently had them replace our AC and furnace systems. We negotiated a price that we were happy with, and HARP performed exactly as they said they would. Called out Harp for problem with no fan or cooling when t-stat called for cooling. Tech came out and replaced the fan control center which he claimed was faulty. Tech told me the part cost was $360 but offered a $50 coupon so I went with it. After the part was replaced I still did not have fan or cooling. Tech was puzzled why the fan did not operate told me a supervisor would need to be consulted. Tech checked out condensing unit and was informed that was very low on refrigerant and that the evaporator coil had a leak and would need to be replace and most likely the low pressure switch was faulty as well He quoted me a new evap coil for $2,260 or $1,400 if under warranty as it was replaced three years ago. Tech left with a bill of $435 yet still the fan did not run. I regards to the system low on refrigerant I declined repair as I wanted a second opinion. Its been two days and no one from Harp has called me. I consulted with a friend who is a licensed heating and cooling tech. He came out and found that the only problem with the fan not coming on was the "Y" wire not connected to the fan control center and within a few minutes had it running. Thus the old fan control was perfectly fine and did not need to be replaced!! He checked the condenser and refrigerants were low and charged the system to see if low pressure switch was faulty and was not as the unit came on when he added refrigerant. He charged the system and all is well and I have cooling. location of leak will be determined at a later date. NOTE: Part that was installed that I was charged $360 and at most cost $30 at local supply house or online . I can see a making a profit and charging 50% or even doubling the cost but 10 times is purely taking advantage. Stay away from this company. read more

I still own a condo in East Hartford and my AC/heating unit blew during one of the cold spells we've had this winter. Hoping to keep my tenant happy I quickly called HARP and they were at the condo very quickly. They diagnosed the problem, gave me a solution over the phone and installed a new inside and outside AC/heating unit within a day or two. Everyone involved was very helpful and I would definitely recommend them to anyone. read more

I had to call because of no heat. Had to call in the middle of the night desperately hoping they could come out Sunday morning, and Super Bowl Sunday of all days. Jake was very nice and courteous on the phone and was so when I spoke to him in the morning again and then while at my home. He was quick, thorough and the price was reasonable especially given the emergency nature of the call. Now my heat is slowly coming back thanks to Jake. I have been looking for a new HVAC specialist because my last one wasn't going to work out despite many tries. I think I have found my new company. HARPE showed up when they said they would to install my central air but they were not sure the details of what they were doing (Asked me if they were using my old compressor when I did not even have air conditioning yet). There were zip ties, sawdust, and screws left on the floor of my basement when they were done and gone. I started having an intermittant problem with the thermostat a month later which they came right out and fixed. The guy who came out to fix it showed up early, was polite, very professional. The system was a little pricey in my mind but I went with HARPE because I know several people / companies who use them and they keep using them. My experience satisfaction was in the middle with them. read more

I have been a loyal customer for approx (12) years. Since it was sold, it has drastically gone downhill. First, I have a "Priority Partner" plan. They claim 24 hour emergency service which I tried twice and neither time got a call back. One was for heating and the other was for a plumbing emergency. I have had both my AC and heating system serviced every year by them. Then my boiler was labeled "Runs Great and clean " by the service tech in 2019. In 2020 a different service tech wrote up estimates to the tune of $1,800 and listed parts that I had recently replaced. I have been told by one of their service techs that that are required to write up at least (3) service items on every call. This makes me believe they are not interested in long term customer relationships based on good old fashioned trust and honesty. To reach the absolute end for me, I left a message for the Service Manager to call me and have not heard back. I also called on April 30th to have my AC tune up and got a date of August 2nd. AC needs will be just about over. I would not recommend this company to anyone and will find another HVAC contractor to partner with. No need to get a call from Charlie or whoever the Customer Relations Manager is. I'm done. read more

The service itself from HARP is excellent, however, the customer service is lacking. My 79 year old grandmother had an appointment window of 2 hours for her a/c unit to be checked today. The 'technician' called her home asking for directions. He was in the wrong part of town, on a completely different street, and despite myself and my aunt trying to give him directions, and giving him instructions on how to use his good GPS (and trying to explain how to switch from walking directions to driving directions) he still couldn't figure it out and said he'd call back. Which he didn't. So, we called the office to see if they could help, hoping that they'd be able to contact him and direct him to my grandmother's address. The representative on the phone was unhelpful, rude, and audibly annoyed that we had called for help. The service tech did *finally* get to her apartment, within the time limit, but my aunt and grandmother are extremely disappointed with the customer service. read more

The H.A.R.P. guys do good work but hang on to your wallet. They will take you for every cent you have. I knew they were expensive but, when my tenants gas burner, that they installed only 2 1/2 years ago, went on the fritz I had to call them again. It took them 2 days to get a correct diagnosis, obtain the proper part (after ordering the wrong part) and get the furnace fixed...to the tune of almost $500.00. 4 days later I was told by my tenants that they had been without hot water since the furnace repair. I called H.A.R.P. to come back and check to see if the furnace repair had affected the hot water heater. They said it did not and left having put in 10 minutes in the basement. I got billed over $100.00 for them to tell me that their work did not cause the hot water heater problem. Let's see...$100.00 dollars for 10 minutes...that comes to $600.00 and hour. I don't care if they do good work. Other furnace guys also do good work...at a much cheaper price. If you do not want to get financially screwed STAY AWAY. read more

Heat went out this morning. There was no sign of glowing igniter through the little view window as the gas furnace kept trying to start. Despite the very mixed reviews (either outstanding or poor) I decided to give HARP a call even though I was not a previous customer of theirs. The phone rep was courteous and said that they could send someone out the next afternoon; when I reminded her that we had no heat, she said she would try to get a serviceman out that day. After putting me a briefly on hold, she was able to confirm that someone would be out in about an hour; I consider that to be very good service. She told me that the charge for the diagnostic visit would be $98, payable at the time of the visit. I asked if that would be applied toward any required fix. She explained that it would pay for about 45 minutes of diagnostic and repair work; if the tech had the needed parts in the truck he would install them and that would preclude a second repair visit. A pleasant young man arrived as promised and put on shoe covers to keep from messing up the floors of house. I brought him to the furnace, explained what was happening and that there was no glowing ignitor visible. After he heard my diagnosis, he checked the ignitor and observed immediately that it had failed. He was pleased to see the type of ignitor, as it was very easy to remove and he had a replacement in his truck. The company policy is to quote the repair price BEFORE doing work; because he did not do that, I assumed it would be a reasonable cost. It took him all of five minutes to replace the ignitor (well within the 45 minute window of the diagnostic/labor charge). As we discussed the ease of the fix, he agreed that it was an easy fix but said that it would be pricey. I had no idea what he meant until he completed his electronic paperwork. I understood the $98 charge for the diagnosis/labor, but the price for the replacement part was quoted at $279, bringing the total charge to a shade over $400 after tax. My quick research indicated that the ignitor he used had a Mfg. Retail Price of $57, but was readily available online for less than half of that. When I expressed my dismay at the outrageous and surprise repair cost I was experiencing, he called the office on my behalf. When he got nowhere, I called the office myself and spoke with the manager (the owner was not available). I was able to make no progress in getting them to charge a reasonable amount (five times the retail price or ten times the actual price just seemed unreasonable to me - if they had quoted something like $80 [still three times the actual price and more than the retail price] I would have willingly paid it, understanding that they are in business to make a buck). So I had the technician remove the new ignitor, and then I thanked him and paid him the agreed-upon diagnostic/labor fee for his time. I will purchase the ignitor directly and install it myself in five minutes. I will also buy an extra ignitor as a spare and still be about $250 ahead. I received communication from the company owner essentially saying that the work should have been quoted up front and that a simple repair such as mine should have been done at a reduced rate or without the diagnostic fee. Based on this unreasonable pricing structure, I would just caution anyone using HARP to be an educated and cautious consumer. Their front line personnel were proficient and courteous, and their response time was excellent. The pricing was simply too outrageous to earn my full recommendation. read more

Had them service my furnace last year. They did a routine cleaning, leaving us all the ashes from the cleaning explaining it was our responsibility to get ride of it, suggesting my back yard as good place to dump them (I live in an inland wetland so didnt seem to wise). The next day our furnace wouldn't start, they said they would send another tech the next day. It was a cold night to the say least and the next day no one came, we called, they kept saying someone would be there by 8. Never happened, finally the next day someone came, recleaned it, and that was the only issue. read more

Horrible experience. I have spent over $15k with HARP and I am sweltering in an 85 degree house with no hope of relief for 5 days. They have sent one bad technician after another who have not been able to fix the system and installed a faulty part. They told me I should not expect the house to be cool on hot days which is baffling. Why would I have installed central air in the first place? Because of their ineptitude we will probably need to go pay for a hotel for the rest of the week. Do NOT use HARP. read more

Harp Mechanical came out to perform a gas conversion at our Restaurant property and it was not the experience we had hoped for. Shawn the technician was helpful up until we had no heat for the 1st floor, diagnosing no heat conditions not a strong suit. So to this day we still have no heat on the 1st floor and we have to find another company to come out to diagnos this because they think it might be the heater coil and would like 2400.00 to replace this part that may or may not take care of the problem...Is it me or does this sound ridiculous to spend 2400.00 on a maybe??? All I want is a diagnosis and a correction to the problem. they have responded 4 times and tried a couple things and still no heat on the 1st floor... My experience could not have been better. Our a/c went out recently on a hot humid weekend. HARP responded with a service call same day and had the problem diagnosed repaired and working within a few hours. Tech Paul was efficient prompt and knowledgeable.
