I rented a house on Harwich Lane in West Harford whose owners assured me it had no air-conditioned problems after my first complaint hours after I moved in, even though all the evidence was there! The week we moved in, August 9th, the state of CT was sending weather warning alerts. The landlord totally disregarded my complain saying she could do nothing about it because the problem was that we did not know how to use the thermostat. (really?) After 5 days in horrible weather, and us sleeping at friends houses because my son and I have asthma, I called HARP . They sent a technician, Joey, who was very professional and diagnosed the problem but had to come back because the unit needed a lot of work. He had been booked for the whole day but understood my son's condition and made the extra effort to include us in his calendar for the same day and returned. Joey resolved the problem in a bit over 24 hours because the unit was frozen and we had to shut it down and wait for it to unfreeze. Joey, who saw through the problems quickly, explained the owners the compressor was extremely dirty, it had a gas leak, the filter was in deplorable conditions, the unit needed regular maintenance that had not been done in a good while, etc. His knowledge and attitude were excellent, his commitment to help people was very clear, and while I still have different problems with the house, having Joey being professional, knowledgeable and understanding, made a real difference for us. I have never written a review on Yelp - but I wanted to give kudos to the entire team at Harp Mechanical! We called (on Valentine's Day) to have a heater tune-up completed since we have never had our furnace checked since moving into our home. We knew our furnace/AC unit was 26 years old but we hadn't had issues with it, that we knew of. We called for a tune up and we were given a same day appointment between 6p-8p. Barry showed up on time and was very knowledgeable and friendly. He explained to us - and showed us that we had leaks in our furnace that could cause a major hazard to our family (possible CO leaks). He helped us schedule a quote for the next morning. Matt came to the house and was also knowledgeable and very friendly. He explained everything in terms we could understand and really worked with us, financially. The next day (today) several techs came out to install our furnace/AC unit (headed up by Mike). Everyone was again, friendly and knowledgeable and kept us in the loop as to what they were doing the entire morning/afternoon they were in our home. My parents have been customers for 22 years with HARP and they came highly recommended - we are excited now to be HARP customers! We were very satisfied with the speed of the arrival of their plumber to fix what I thought was a major problem and turned out to be minor. I was expecting to need to have carpentry repair as I didn't know where the leak was coming from. It was accessible and not in anything needing cutting, and replacing--except some copper pipe due to pin hole leaks spraying up at the subfloor and then down onto ceiling tiles. The pipe section was replaced, as were the saturated ceiling tiles. Unfortunately in the process of the repair, the master vanity water was turned off to the faucets and for some weird reason, failed. I went to check and got sprayed. Vince had not left and came in and checked and found that they were a big box retailer's products. I had to get new ones, but went to a plumbing supply so I was sure of the inner quality. Once they were in, I called HARP and Vince returned to install the replacement faucets. We never really liked the original ones, so this was a blessing in disguise. HARP also graciously twice accepted their $50 off plumbing repair coupon. I will probably use them now as our go-to plumber. read more

I had HARP install a new ducted air conditioning system for my home and one mini split with cooling and heat for a guest room. The price was competitive, not the lowest, not the highest. The solution provided was the best fit for me and the reviews supported my decision to go ahead. The teams involved were knowledgeable, polite and professional. The work was completed in a timely manner and everything was cleaned up well. The above and beyond service from the individuals involved was fantastic. One guys built a great customized wooden frame for my new air filter access. Another member of the team even helped my mother in law with a big root she was removing in the garden as he walked by. The technician who came back afterwards to make sure all systems were up and running was perfect. Finally, HARP repaired and covered a few minor nicks etc. It's not a cheap upgrade, but it's hard to beat sitting in comfy AC during a major heat wave. I purchased my central air from HARP in 2003 and thankfully it is still going strong. I have recommended this company numerous times throughout the years. Those folks have trusted my recommendation and now trust this company. The office staff is always as accommodating as they can possibly be. The technicians are exceptional. Each one that has been to my home as not only done a great job in maintaining my unit, I swear they can 'see' into the future and have helped me in decision making when it comes to 'fix it now or you can wait a bit'. I know I can rely on their knowledge. I also had them look at a gas furnace and was extremely pleased with the outcome. Cost is always an issue, with any in home repair. We have owned a HARP A/C system for approximately 20 years. It was a backlit into our 42 year old 4 bedroom colonial home. It has worked reliably over the years, but was showing its signs of "old age". The HARP service staff who was performing our annual maintenance showed us the signs that the system was nearing its end of life and we agreed to have it replaced before the hot summer months. The replacement staff were very polite and worked efficiently; they did their best to keep the house clean as they transited in and out with the old and new equipment. They implemented all the little extras that I discussed with the sales representative the previous week. I am very pleased with HARP and will continue to use them as our annual service provider. I called Harp after another company in town blew me off and man am I glad I did! From my first call ever to the email report of my visit it was truly a professional experience. The technician was more than respectful with vast knowledge of his craft. His explanations and work were top notch. I asked a million questions and he answered them all without being made feeing like I was bothering him. Pricing was all gone over in extreme detail and in advance of work performed. I had never used them before as I had recently moved into town. I called first thing in the morning as our furnace went out on New Years Eve Night. Within 2 hours I received a text telling me a Harp technician is on the way, also had a picture of the technician that is coming which is a neat feature. All in all A++. read more

I made an appointment with harp to have my oil boiler serviced for an annual tune up. I made the appointment a month in advance. I called them two days before the appointment to confirm. I had to take the day off of work. The day of my appointment they called and said they were not coming. They said they had too many heat "emergency". The day of the appointment it is 50 degrees out so I don't know how many heat emergency they could be. I asked to talk to manger. She said when I called two days before to confirm they had hoped they keep the appointment. I wish they had told me that before I took the day off from work. Totally waste of time. They don't care about appointments and they don't care about customer service. read more

I was told by a previous water expert that it would cost 7 to 12 thousand to get our well and water filtration back on line as the system was unusable and could not be repaired. Two techs arrived and after trouble shooting the system told me the system needed servicing but should be fully usable afterward. they cleaned the tanks and water softener, reprogramed the regeneration, filled the tank with the proper media to remove iron and had it online in less than a day. After running it through the pipes we passed the water test with flying colors. They also informed me the system was under warrantee for another 2 years. We have been using HARP mechanical for four years as our annual maintenance to service out furnace, humidifier, and central AC. Although HARP didn't install our units, they service with prompt, polite, and efficient service. We especially love their electrician named Dan, he has been with the company for years and always goes beyond the call of duty. Recently HARP saved us over $2,000.00 from a competing company that wanted to replace a unit. We asked HARP to come for an estimate and they rewired a portion of the unit, and now it works perfectly. HARP did an outstanding job scheduling and then installing our Lennox heat pump and air handler. They were able to get it done for us when we needed it, and when an issue came up at the 11th hour, they went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied customers. My recent experience with Harp was my first one, and I found these people to be outstanding. To start with, this was the only company of 4 I called that was willing and able to come out on a Sunday to diagnose my AC failure. I've used 6 or 7 different HVAC companies in CT over the years and Harp proved, by far, to be the most competent, responsive and reasonably priced. I had a technician named Ivey show up today to service my AC which was not working. This gentleman showed up witha mask and gloves and got straight to work. He explained everything clearly to me and addressed the issue quickly. The unit is very old and he advised me on the different possibilities and let me know that the "fix'' for today could possibly be temporary as we have gotten a lot out of this older unit. Ivey is the best technician that I have had come to my home to service anything. I hope if I need help that I see him again. Kudos to Harp for hiring such professional staff. read more

I got the HARP flyer in my mail. Usually this is discarded but, my furnace is older, and really needed to be looked at. I took a chance and contacted HARP of whom I had no previous experience. What a pleasant surprise! The service tech arrived the next day. He thoroughly inspected my furnace and showed me what needed to be done. After explaining options, risk and cost. Called on a Friday evening due to the gas furnace not lighting, which meant no heat, or hot water. Set up an appointment for Saturday morning. Andrew arrived as scheduled, and had the problem diagnoses and fixed quickly and stuck around to make sure the unit would continue to light. Everything was explained thoroughly.
