Visited Harold's for the first time in a Saturday afternoon around 4pm. As you enter, it is noted that other than removing some tables from the dining room and changing some things where the bar used to be, it looks exactly the same inside as it did when it was Cozy Tavern. The same large mirrors are in the wall and the red vinyl booths still exist from the old bar. The plates that identified the location of the old beer wall remain, as well. There is no sign that says 'ORDER HERE' so you have to figure that part out by yourself. The staff member that eventually greeted us was polite and patient with us as she explained the menu. We were not sure about what sauces we wanted so she was able to give us a sample of the mild sauce. It tastes alot like Arby's sauce. We each ordered the 4 piece chicken tenders dinner that comes with fries, coleslaw, and a piece of bread. They have bottled drinks available such as soft drinks and PowerAde. A 20oz soft drink bottle costs $1.89. While we waited for our order, there were multiple people that showed up for Carry Out orders and they took multiple orders over the phone. Our food came out and in the sack included salt/pepper and a plastic fork/knife combo. There are napkins on the table butt no ketchup or other sauces. I looked, but did not ask, for ketchup and did not see it anywhere. Our chicken tenders portions were very large, thick and juicy. They are served on top of the fries and the bread. There was not a lot of sauce in the tenders n The slaw comes in a 2oz plastic cup. We both are two of our tenders and the fries. We saved the other two for a snack later because we were full. My wife wanted sauce to go for later. She asked the woman at the register and we were charge $0.55 for a cup to go. That seemed kind of much for sauce to go, but we paid it. Overall, the food was excellent and reheated well. An update to the inside of the restaurant is certainly needed, but other than the party of 10 that arrived to have a birthday party as we were leaving; most of the business was CARRY OUT. If you enter a fried chicken place and the first thing you see is something about their famous sauce, that is a major, major red flag. Fried chicken, (specifically non-breasts because yeah, breasts taste like nothing) should taste amazing with no sauce. Harold's chicken was cooked crispy and was good quality but tasted like nothing. Just nothing. I did get their hot sauce and that sauce is very good. Of course the chicken tasted good with hot sauce. The fries were just ok. I arrived a bit after normal lunch hours, so was not too upset I had to wait 20 minutes for them to fry my chicken. You may want to call ahead. The restaurant itself is pretty dumpy from its Cozy Tavern days. And it was about 60 degrees in there on a nice spring day. The AC was full blast and I could not eat in the restaurant. It may sound crazy, but if you want some really good fried chicken, try the Krispy Krunchy Chicken gas station restaurant chain. There's one in Dayton which I have not been to, but the one I had up north was 100% off the chain. read more

This place is a little tucked off and I drove pass it without realizing it. The inside is unique with dark colors and tinted windows but still pretty decent atmosphere. The service was okay. I did have questions and was a bit curious on the menu and the person moderately assisted me. The food was decent; just your standard fried chicken. I got the fried wings and gizzards with fries and it was decent just had a few too crispy to eat pieces. Never ate here before but chicken sounded good so looked up a few local places. The google reviews of this place were pretty bad, but they are recently opened and most the issues seemed to relate to order time, so I called at 1:10 for pick up at 2. I have class at 2:30 so figured that would work well. Arrived at 1:47, paid and waited. The owner was very busy answering the phone, as well as taking orders and handing them out. Hard to tell but seemed like one or two employees only in the kitchen. It is easy to see why some wait times are long. They make everything to order and doing that with fried food is tough. The google reviews saying it smelled bad are wrong. It smelled like delicious chicken. I was super excited to get my food. But 2:00 passed. It wasn't possible to ask the owner as she was very busy. At some point a customer (who I presume is an off duty employee) stepped up to help call out orders and hand them out. About 2:13 the owner gets a call about a wrong order. Looks like my order had been handed to someone else. Sadly I was unable to wait longer as I had to get to class. The staff was NOT "ghetto" as another reviewer stated. Nor did I find them unprofessional in any way. The owner seemed a bit frustrated given how busy they were, but I have worked in fast food my entire life and it is very normal (and valid) to be flustered and overwhelmed when you are swamped with orders and short staffed. Since I never got my food I can't say anything about it, but it did smell amazing and given how busy they are, I am sure it is great. They are a new business with the issues any new business has. New businesses don't have tons of money to buy lots of friers so ofc with less fry vats and cooking everything to order, it will take time. Also, with less money, you can't hire as many people. The owner is clearly working the positions of 3-4 people. If you want to eat here (and you should) I would 1) Call an hour ahead 2) Be prepared to wait a bit 3) Always check your order (which you should do anywhere) 4) Leave your outdated puritan view of "professionalism" at the door. People are not 'ghetto' for not using British english, nor are they rude for being flustered when there is a lunch rush. read more

food is good as any harolds chicken place. but customer service here is very unprofessional. very ghetto. employees need to be trained to speak proper english and need a script of what to say when taking orders over the phone. they shouldnt be saying "un huh" and "what you want" and "alright" as a form of goodbye or have a nice day. also, all essential employees should receive discounts, not just firefighters, ems and police. postal workers need to be added to that list as it is two businesses away from the establishment and would gain more business as the postal workers are very diverse and are very familiar with harolds chicken. read more

7 of us order chicken, catfish, pizza puffs, mozzarella sticks, fries, coleslaw...EVERYONE agreed that the food was incredible. So happy to have a MUCH better alternative to KFC and Popeyes. We'll be back. read more

We always look forward to new places opening in town, so decided to try this one. The place is a little grimy, dark, kind of unwelcoming. My husband really wanted to get chicken, so we ordered anyway. They were out of a few things, including dark meat. It took awhile to order, took even longer to get our food. We waited 45 minutes before my husband went and checked, give them another few. So 50 minutes later we finally settle in to eat, they gave me shrimp instead of catfish. I wasn't about to wait another 45 minutes, was just going to eat what I got. Went up to ask for ketchup, again waited. (The staff is inattentive and more focused on socializing.) The gal proceeds to ask me if I was missing my catfish. I tell her she gave me shrimp. She says "oh can I have that back?" I tell her I already opened it. "That's fine." So I go back to the table, wrap the shrimp up, hand it over, ask for ketchup again. She takes the food I had touched and puts it in a bag for someone else's order! At this point I don't even want to eat but forge ahead and was super disappointed. The fries were soggy, unseasoned, and barely warm. The catfish was a good portion size, but the breading was very thick and hard. The bread is just a slice of sad white bread, the coleslaw comes in a tiny condiment container. My husband said his wings were okay, not worth the price though. We won't be back. read more
