We were visiting from out of town where bbq rules. So we both are a bit of bbq snobs. This is a fast casual type of bbq. And it screams Texas style when you enter with the decor. I ordered the pulled pork with mac and cheese and green beans. The pork was good. I do prefer pulled chicken or smoked chicken. The only chicken they offer is wings, but they have turkey. It was already flavored with some of the bbq sauce and was sweeter than what I'm used to. Still smokey, but sweet. I didn't need to add additional sauce. Green beans were good as well as the Mac and cheese, but just average. What I really missed was a bread side with a plate. Every place I've been near our home serves plates with Texas toast, cornbread, a bun or hush puppies. They did have cornbread to purchase as a side. We ate outside. The tables had some sun damage and the plastic chairs were a little too casual for me. A table next to us had people smoking, so we ate quickly and left. Overall we'd try it again. It was very reasonably priced and I'd rather have this than fast food. read more

I was hopeful that this would be a great spot for my family but seems there was to much hype based on the reviews. It was overpriced, portions were to small for the price, and they did not have any family size platters. Don't get me wrong, the food was good and I would come back maybe for a date night just for the pulled pork. I could have gotten my kiddos the kids meal but didn't want to go to a BBQ place to just get them a hotdog. The cream corn and baked Mac and cheese were delicious. The restaurant itself could have used a good cleaning. Dust and cob webs on the walls were not pleasant to look at while eating. The staff was accommodating but they couldn't offer much guidance/advice on what to order for a family of 5. I believe if the restaurant had a reasonably priced platter it would have been a better experience. This restaurant has become a staple in my family over the past couple of years. The food is always excellent and the staff is always friendly. It's locally owned (shoutout John!) and you can tell they really care about what they do, as well as being a part of the community. Best Texas style food I've had outside of Texas. My husband and I decided to try Harmon's for the first time recently. Just walking in to the restaurant made us happy! The smell of smoked meats was glorious! We ordered a large meal that the 2 of us, and our 6 year old, could share. We ordered the ribs, brisket, mac 'n cheese, creamed corn, and the loaded baked potato. The ribs were juicy, and fall off the bone perfect. The brisket was tender, and moist. The bbq sauce was smooth and sweet, and really set off the meat. The creamed corn was super creamy, and loaded with plump kernels of sweet corn. The mac 'n cheese was cheesy, and gooey, just like you get in the South. Not dry, and mealy like others. And, the loaded potato...OMG!!! It was HUGE! It was full of sour cream, their melted butter, and tons of cheese. The potato was so big, we brought half of it home. Went to Harmons barbeque on a Thursday evening with about 10 people. It's an annual thing, part of a convention. As a Memphis-certified, and Kansas City certified barbeque judge, I am tasked with finding a barbeque spot wherever we are each year. I did not know Harmons, but based on a variety of recommendations, we went, and we were not, not, not disappointed... Not in the least! I had the rib and brisket combo. The hardwood smoke is in your nostrils the moment you walk through the front door, and it is carried through to every bite that you take. The ribs were meaty, tender, not quite fall off the bone, (which is a very good thing!) The brisket was tender, juicy, and for a restaurant, getting close to competition style - which, for me, is high praise, indeed. Perhaps my only disappointment was the banana pudding, which was more like a nice bowl of whipped cream, rather than a genuine putting. I mean, if you're going to have barbecue, and they're offering banana pudding, it's kind of mandatory! I was a visitor; I don't live anywhere near, but if I am back in that vicinity, I know where to go for barbecue! Not sure why I would bother to look anywhere else. read more

I really wanted to try someplace new and was driving by when I saw a big smoker outside of a restaurant. Now I have a weakness for BBQ and had to try basically everything with my friends. The Mac and cheese honestly wasn't anything special and really did not taste like anything. The beans were delicious. It was a lot of mixed beans with some yummy spices and stuff. The green beans were very flavorful and the wings and fries were delicious. The pulled pork sandwich was great since I put some bbq sauce and coleslaw on it and scooped up what fell out of the sandwich and ate it separately. So yummy! Harmon's is a great little family run place with awesome service and food. Seating is at big tables and you may have some new friends sit down at your table. You are just asked to sit wherever there is an opening. The food was delicious and very quick to get to us. If you need pickles or anything be sure to ask at the window at pick up. I work with USI, and they had a catered event which included this wonderful place. I never knew they existed, but I do now. Wow, this food was awesome. I think this Bar-B-Q was some of the best I've had in the Cincinnati area. I can't drive to St Louis all the time, so finally, some local BBQ that's worth talking about. Way to go!!! This local BBQ joint is one of the best I've been to. I'm always looking for local places that aren't chains and this is right at the top of my list of BBQ. First time going here as I was in the area for work, from South of Louisville. The location is right off 275, so it's very convenient and easy to get to. The BBQ was top notch, and whoever thought to pile it high on a giant spud, that person deserves an award. If I ever find myself in the area again, it'll definitely be my go to. Line moves fast and orders come out quick. It was a beautiful day, so we sat out on the patio. The smell of the smoker out back while we ate was just an added bonus. Best BBQ in the area by far! The wait was short for carryout, and the staff was very friendly. We got the Brisket Potato and a Two Meat Plate w/ Jalapeno Sausage and Brisket. Brisket was fantastic, had a great smoke flavor and the house made sauce complimented everything well. The Jalapeno Sausage was mild, had a great snap and those crispy edges from the end of the link. Brisket Potato was my wife's favorite, try it and you won't regret it. For the sides we had Mac and Cheese, Potato Salad, and Creamed Corn. All of the sides were great, you can tell someone really took the time to make sure everything tasted perfect. There are 4 main BBQ regions in America - Carolina, Texas, KC, and Memphis - each with their own style of producing delicious low and slow smoked meats. If there are any doubts as to which of these styles is in focus at Harmon's, look around the inside and you'll see plenty of bric-a-brac and decorations connected with the Lone Star State. While all 4 regional variants include various takes on Pork, in Texas, beef is king - and the beef brisket is indeed the very best of the meats available here. If you are getting just one meat here, make it the brisket. The slices (it is also available in shredded form) I got were so tender that the meat fell apart when simply I attempted to lift it. Very flavorful as well, with a healthy ribbon of luxuriously soft near-rendered cap fat. I am not certain I've had better smoked brisket anywhere in Greater Cincinnati. Pulled pork is solidly good, but comes pre-sauced by default. I recommend requesting no sauce so you can sample it unadorned; and there is a pump dispenser of warm BBQ sauce so you can add whatever amount you want afterwards The ribs - smoked, then held, then basted with sauce and finished for service on a grill - were also very good. Many folks talk about good ribs being "fall off the bone" tender, but these were done the way championship bbq judges seem to prefer - tender but yet firm enough that you leave a bite mark in the meat still clinging lightly to the bone. There are a lot of other details that honor the Texas bbq tradition, like --all meats sold by the pound --two varieties of smoked sausages are available. --sliced white bread, pickles, and sliced onion offered gratis to each diner as they pick up their completed order at the counter. --'que is presented simply on butcher paper or in paper bowls --humble surroundings --communal seating I think the one missing Texas 'que element is Shiner brand beer. But the fellow working the counter said they're working on that. A lot of Texas 'que joints refuse to offer sauce, firmly maintaining that good quality 'que needs no sauce. That said, here in Cincinnati, we expect to have a sauce, and Harmon's does provide us with a pretty good rendition. It is mostly sweet catsup-based sauce, with a just a hint of spice heat. It is a bit thinner than one usually expects from this style of sauce. I have a sneaking suspicion that meat drippings are part of the recipe for this sauce, but I didnt ask about it So "Tom", you say, "this reads like a 5 star review. Why only 4?" Glad you asked. I'd actually like to make it a 3.5, but alas, cant do half stars on Yelp, so I rounded up. So....good 'que is fairly costly, I get that, but the prices here are for the most part right at or a little beyond the priciest 'que available in our area. And they've raised some prices by as much as 25% since they opened just a few weeks ago. Bottom line....I think that if you like good BBQ, you will enjoy your meal here a lot.....except if you're the one paying the bill read more

I love BBQ. Grew up in Kansas City, am familiar with Gates, Bryant's, Joe's KC (formerly Oklahoma Joe's), Fiorella's, Zarda, Wyandotte, Woodyard.... Since then, I've sampled TX (not much, sadly, but did make it to Lockhart Smokehouse in Dallas, one of Texas Monthly's Top 50). We took a family trip to Memphis (Central, Bar-B-Q Shop, Payne's) and Nashville (Peg Leg Porker). I've tried North Carolina, but need to get back. Anyway, I like BBQ. In Cincinnati, we've had Eli's (tied for best pulled pork I've had anywhere, great turkey) and the lesser-known Velvet Smoke (competition team). There are others, but these are the best I've had in the area. Harmon's is in the conversation. I like to ask at the counter what wood is used in smoking the meat -- I figure legit BBQ folks should know and care. The pleasant young woman taking my order at Harmon's did not know -- but she quickly asked the man at the other register (the owner), who promptly said, "Oak. Red oak." Ah. A good sign. No wonder the place was redolent with smoke. I later saw the pit out back, with its adjacent rack of wood. The meat is smokey, more heavily than Eli's (oak vs hickory, after all). I like the meat to taste strongly of smoke, and this did. Turkey and pork a bit dry -- but I'll take that for smoke. The sliced brisket was excellent -- still fairly unctuous, very smokey. I heard the owner, at the next register, accepting an order specifying "lean" -- another sign of good BBQ, when such things matter enough to be included in the order. When I picked up my tray in the window, I was offered jalapenos (no thanks), pickles and onion (yes and yes), as well as sliced white bread. Definitely the TX approach, and I approve! All the meat was underseasoned, to our taste. With a bit of salt, the brisket was excellent. Not the best I've ever had (that, so far, was Lockhart Smokehouse, where they pulled the meat out of the pit to slice my order, then put it back in the pit), but still exceptional, based on my brisket-eating history. If only it had been seasoned more. We also tried mac and cheese (kids ate it all), creamed corn (good) and cornbread (fine taste, a bit try). Harmon's is definitely now in my list of places to keep visiting. Given that they only recently opened, as I understand it, I have high hopes! read more

We have seen this place being remodeled into a BBQ after driving by for quite a while and wanted to try it. It did not disappoint. The inside is completely open with long tables. It's counter service. They have a sign up front that lets you know they are family owned and operated and not affiliated with another restaurant or chain. I thought that was cool. The staff was very friendly and I noticed the owner out in the dining area observing everything and interacting with customers. The prices are a bit high, as everything comes ala carte including sides. Because of that, your total can add up quick. However, I felt the food was worth the price. Food = delicious. The creamed corn, cornbread, mac and cheese, and baked beans were very very tasty and flavorful. The pickles on the tray were even unique tasting. The brisket - sooo yummy. It was so tender, had this great smokey flavor, and the meat was falling apart. My husband commented that it was the best he'd ever had. Their BBQ sauce was unique and thinner in texture with a really good flavor to it. They also sell some non-traditional sodas in their fountain - vanilla cream soda, black cherry, and root beer. Will 100% be back. Seems like we found a new go-to BBQ place. read more

Food- ordered the chopped brisket sandwich, ribs, Mac and cheese, cornbread, creamed corn, baked beans. Only thing redeemable was the bbq sauce and cornbread. Meat tasted like it was cooked with lighter fluid rather than smoked/grilled. Service- the male cashier was very friendly and helpful! When we returned the sides to opt for something else to try he was very helpful and suggested other menu items. There was a kitchen worker who was less than pleasant. She snatched the sides we were returning and had a horrible attitude, no verbal communication happened between us and her so I'm not sure what caused the tension. Hopefully she has a better day!!! But unfortunately this wasn't a win for us. Some other options are Eli's, Just Qin BBQ, and Alabama Que is so good you've got to make it in before they sell out for the day! read more
