I enjoyed the ride and scenery so much I went with the second group of the day as well. Sidney was the guide for my second ride. We took a different trail and saw more beautiful CO scenery. The horses are well cared for at this ranch. That's important to me. The guides all worked well together to make everyone comfortable and happy. Chuck runs a smooth operation there. The horses were calm and capable. This was LEGIT backcountry riding. It was JUST US.... the trails were gnarly and the horses had to go over fallen timber, we ducked under branches etc. The scenery was PURE COLORADO Aspens and spruce/pines. Even though it was challenging, I felt like my son was in capable hands from the moment they fitted him to his saddle until we went down a series of steep switchbacks and Michael (our guide) told him that it was OK if he wanted his horse led down the slope... We are repeat customers and this year took a 3/4 day trip to Brown's Falls surrounded by golden aspen. Our Wrangler, KC, is amiable, a great story teller and terrific at managing horses and riders. My family has done a couple of full day rides with KC, and he'll do his best to get you an eyeful of scenery, rain or shine! I think our ride would be a great match for anyone, couples, singles, and families. Mt. Princeton Stables offers a BIG experience and it sure is a lot easier riding a horse up a mountain than going on foot carrying a 60 lb pack!

As an experienced rider, I was looking for a trail ride that would not be the stereotypical nose-to-tail walking trail ride that is so commonly offered, and this trail ride did not disappoint! We were able to ride in a pack, side-by-side each other. We rode from the ranch, out through a pasture, and up a hillside to the top of the butte. On the butte, they let us experienced riders do more than walk on our horses. Amy, Josh, and Josh were so warm and welcoming and shared some history about the area. Fantastic tour guides, and amazing humans. My friend and I were visiting Colorado for about a week, and Amy gave us some recommendations of additional things to do/see while we were in the area, as well. Next time I make it back to Colorado, I would absolutely go back and visit Platte Ranch again.
