The horses are great and while Randy is pretty quiet and unassuming, he works hard and loves his lifestyle.

You don't always need to stare death in the face to have a good time on the river. Sometimes, it's…read moreenough to get your whole crew -- including a skeptical five-year-old -- onto a raft, into a life jacket, and pointed downstream with someone who knows what the hell they're doing. Enter Adventure Outdoors. And more specifically, Willey -- river guide, amateur comedian, part-time philosopher, and full-time raft whisperer. We had a raft to ourselves, which is clutch when you're trying to make memories without having to small-talk with strangers who brought the wrong footwear. From the jump, Willey had the vibe dialed in -- calm, confident, funny without trying too hard. He read the room (er, raft?) like a pro: a little river trivia for the adults, some goofy banter for the kids, and enough calm assurance to win over our five-year-old, who wasn't exactly stoked at the put-in. But by the second bend in the river? She was grinning. Splashing. Living. The float itself? Smooth, scenic, just the right amount of thrill to make it feel like an adventure without triggering anyone's survival instincts. You glide through red rock canyons, wave at passing trains, and realize -- this is Colorado doing what Colorado does best. No stress. No drama. Just a perfectly executed family float with a guide who knew how to make it sing. If you're looking for a full-send whitewater experience, maybe save this for your off-day. But if you want something everyone from grandma to the grumpy preschooler can enjoy, this is the trip. And if you're lucky enough to get Willey? You're in for a good time. The man knows his river.

We had little ones that were rafting for the first time and this was absolutely the perfect speed. Becca was our guide and she was absolutely adorable and kept us all safe, laughing and educated. The views, smells and sounds were heavenly. The trip was over two hours. We stopped to swim at one area and then we went to a little beach. The kids could play and explore and we had lemonade. If you're looking for a very chill and no scary rapids you will love this experience. We all had a wonderful time and memories that will last forever!

This was our second favorite stay at the Red Barn Guest Ranch in New Castle Colorado. Just like our…read morefirst visit, we again experienced a beautiful stay surrounded by beauty and the tranquility that we needed. Our accommodation in the "Bridal Suite" was immaculate and so comfortable. Our hosts, Luis and Kristine, surprised us with a fresh organic breakfast every morning, along with piping hot coffee and tea. We relaxed and enjoyed walking the property and seeing the beautiful horses in their pasture. One morning wild turkeys ran past our door and I managed to get some great photos. The fall is stunning for great sunsets and aspen-glow. We will be back !

Unfortunately, due to the nearby fires there was heavy smoke everywhere. The owners realized it would be unbearable to stay there and offered us a bridal suite at their recently purchased ranch which is 15 minutes away. After a few rural roads we came upon their place... OMG what a ranch! It was how one would imagine a ranch to be... white fenced sections, horses, wildlife, stables, lots of well-kept acreage with many large shady trees also many apple trees. A beautiful huge main house to one side, the bridal suite across the driveway very privately surrounded by beautiful lawns and trees with lots of shade. One of the family members took us on a tour around the 21 acres and as the ranch name suggests, they have a huge red barn along with stables, corrals, ponds, more B&B suites, just amazing! It had a perfect reception hall that opens to a vast lawn, this with a complete bar, bandstand; this is a perfect place for a wedding. The entire place was super clean and well kept. Our mornings were very relaxing... peacefully quiet but for the soothing soft breeze through the trees. Breakfast on our private patio was a treat and did I mention the delicious coffee? Luis and Kristine along with their wonderful family were so welcoming and are the warmest of hosts, one and all. We really enjoyed their company. This ranch is a perfect place for a wedding, family reunion, retreat or whatever! We look forward to coming back very soon. We loved it and you will too!
