The Harbor Freight chain continues to be my favorite for tools... and at the same time they are some of the worst you can find customer service. It truly makes me wonder if they provide any training to their staff at all. To make the shopping experience even worse the local Harbor Freight sometimes plays rap music over the store speakers which I'm sure doesn't appeal to every one in the store. There have been multiple occasions when I've asked an employee where to find a product and they don't seem to know where things are in the store. This most recent visit I was looking for a magnified fluorescent light fixture that mounts to a tabletop. The person I asked pointed to a section and said that's where their all of their lighting is . I told him that's not where I found it last time and that I'd already looked there this time and it wasn't there. He ignored what I said and repeated that all of they're lighting Products are in that one section. I looked around the store some more and finally found the place where I had found it before- not in the lighting section. There was a tag for it on the Shelf but they were all sold out. At least I knew I wasn't crazy . And once again I knew that most of their employees are not interested in being helpful. Again I love Harbor Freights products and prices, but when you visit you're pretty much on your own. read more

Today I went to Harbor Freight in Dale City. It was a horrible experience. The "greeter" did not acknowledge me or look up from her phone. I was hoping to get a broken 3/8 ratchet replaced with there lifetime warranty harbor freight has on all hand tools. I was told if I could find the exact same ratchet it wouldn't be a problem. The lady did not offer to help me find it just said look in row 5. When I could not find the exact ratchet as the broken one I decided to get a similar one but when I got to the counter the lady told me I could not get a credit from the broken ratchet towards any other one then the exact same ratchet. She could not tell me when my ratchet would be in stock and was extremely rude about it. So my tools have lifetime warranty but you all make it impossible to use? That hardly seems fair. Maybe consider hiring some employees that don't bark at customers as well. I was prepared to purchase an expensive set of ratcheting wrenches today. $219 for the set, but if I have to jump thru hoops when I need to tool warrantied I am obviously better off spending the extra money at the snap on or Matco truck that stop by shop once a week even if their price is double Update: just left Harbor freight in falls church city. They where extremely helpful and had no problem crediting my broken ratchet towards a different one, attached is a receipt. Dale city Harbor Freight lost out on this sale and many more for years to come. I don't understand why they did not want to help me, arnt they in business to make money???? read more

They open at 9 on Sundays, but today they didn't open until almost 11 I don't know what happened l, but it was a waste of my time as I like ti get there before they open because I know they get crowded quick on sundays and I didn't want ti get caught up in the chaos. Terrible customer service from the supposed store manager. After being rude to a customer because he didn't speak fluent English, he tossed a very heavy box he was bringing to the car into the back with cero concern for damaging the vehicle or the item just purchased. Not sure what his problem was, but if that is the way Harbor Freight treats customers, I am taking my business elsewhere. read more

Eddie at Harbor Freights in Woodbridge is very rude and unhelpful. I came in before closing because the Harbor Freight's app said that it had a product in stock. Eddie walks around announcing that the store is closing in 5 minutes as I walk to the middle of the store looking for the wheelchair ramp. I ask for help and he was very off putting. I ask him if he wants to help and then aggressively expresses that he was basically social distancing; which is fine by the way, but I had the item open on my phone which looked like it was in the automotive section. He condescendingly says we are in the Automotive section. I show him my phone (holding it up) to show what I was looking for and he tells me they are in the front of the store and not in the automotive section. That's no problem. I head to the front, and see them on display. I get in line and asked the young lady at the cash register how to retrieve them, and Eddie comes to the front to say that they don't have them. If he had an ounce of professionalism in his body, he would have did this from the start. It took less than 60 seconds to walk to the front and see that the boxes weren't out. Not only did he waste my time, he was an unhelpful jerk who is best suited working with things that don't speak instead of paying customers who come in for assistance. Although the product is cheaper than Home Depot, I ordered a similar product using their app and received my military discount and free shipping with no issues. I do realize that good workers are hard to find in this day and age, but sheesh. This guy was really awful. It was worth paying more for the peace of mind and not dealing with such a lackluster associate. Customer service is still important. read more

This store epitomizes everything that is wrong with rogue consumerism. Good product designs are ripped off by Chinese companies and built out of the cheapest of the cheap materials and shipped over here on a boat and sold for pennies on the dollar compared to the original well-built products. Don't expect anything in this store to last very long. Some of their items have lifetime guarantees, but that just guarantees that you'll be bringing it back for a new one ever few months. Why waste your time when you can just buy something that will last. The store itself is well organized and has a huge selection, but the VOCs off-gassing from their products will give you a headache as soon as you set foot inside. Not for me! Sorry, HF. read more

I purchased a car battery charger from here 4 days ago. Straight out of the box, the charger didn't work . I took it back and exchanged it yesterday and asked if I could plug the new one in to ensure it worked before I left the store. I was informed that the company's policy stated they cannot allow items to be tested before purchase. I brought it home and low and behold, the new one didn't work either. I returned back to the store today for a complete refund. The cashier asked me if I would accept a gift card and I informed her that I just want the money put back on the credit card I used for the payment. After trying over and over again and getting assistance from the manager, he informed me that they had to put the refund on a gift card or give me half cash and half gift card. I didn't want that, I just wanted the refund put back on my original charge card. He said that because their system "flagged" this as a second return, they couldn't put it back on my card. This makes no sense! I could see if I was asking for cash but I wasn't, I just wanted it returned back to my card. Lesson learned: if you're going to exchange an item, get your money back and buy it again if you feel lucky. read more

Harbor Freight the store is unabashedly low-rent. These guys spend zero money or effort trying to make the place look pretty or seem fancy. The folks they have working there mostly know where things are in the store, but in talking to them it's obvious they have little experience with their product in a professional capacity. No master carpenters or ASE certified techs moonlighting here. Using a strategy reminiscent of Aldi, or IKEA, but applied to tools, most of their product is private label. American-y sounding names like "Chicago Electric" and "Pittsburgh Pro" abound throughout the store. Make no mistake though, Harbor Freight is about cheap tools from China, and lots of them! These are not heirloom-quality tools like old Craftsman stuff; Anyone who makes their living with their tools will be leery of using much of anything from this store. But it's a great place for a DIY'er to get obscure or specialist tools that won't get used often enough to justify the purchase of a first-tier piece. They have, in recent years, upped their game on their core product-lines: mechanic's hand tools, roll-away tool boxes, air tools, compressors and so forth are all as good if not better than the Chinese junk Sears defiles the Craftsman name on these days, and HF is pennies on the dollar in comparison. read more

I came in for some stuff for a wiring project; I feel like a grown up now that I'm obsessing over DIY projects on Pinterest and lusting after tools. I'm all about that "DYI life", but sometimes projects can get expensive and being a couponer, saving money is really important to me. If I had to make a comparison, I'd liken Harbor Freight Tools to a store like Aldi, but with tools of course. All items are private label, and selection is not a vast as the big-name Hardware stores, but for the most part you can find what you need at an insanely reasonable price. Percentage off coupons are frequently found in the newspaper and on the website which can generally be used on sale items and there's usually a coupon for a free handy item. Good place to shop for hardware basics. read more

I wish I could give Harbor Freight Tools of Potomac Mills a high rating, because I truly love the incredible deals they have on Tools. The reason I have to give a two (on the verge of an one) is because of the crude treatment of customers and the complete disregard of product care and placement. I get that you get what you pay for, but I believe this Harbor Freight is worse than what you pay for. The employees here are not helpful or knowledgeable of their products. They obviously don't care, because their products are poorly shelved and visibly damaged. Not only that, but they also seem to poorly categorize their products. The cashiers are slow and blatantly rude. They get very angry if you form more than two lines, even if there are four registers open. They obviously didn't get the memo of how every other business forms lines. The only good part of my visits are the unbelievable deals and fair product quality that Harbor Freight offers. I honestly would not recommend this location to others in the area, and I would only recommend other Harbor Freight locations or another hardware store in the area. read more

I had a good experience in their Woodbridge store. It certainly is not a fancy place as it is an extreme discount operation with minimal staff. I had several questions at different times during my shopping. Several employees were very helpful and did not act like I was annoying them. I obtained the items that I needed at a very low cost. Someone looking for extremely high quality, and expensive tools, should look beyond the "box" stores. I have used Harbor Freight tools since the mid-1980s. The tools I purchased were for an immediate project and the tools worked perfectly. I would not view these tools as items for daily use, but for occasional needs, they are well beyond adequate. I have plenty of high quality tools, but I occasionally need a tool that I do not own. Harbor Freight bales me out without me needlessly spending more than is required for a one or two time application. read more

We had a flat tire on our way to vacation in South Carolina. We met with the manager after showing him that the flat tire was on a harbor freight foldable trailer. He found us a tire in his inventory and inflated it to the proper pressure for us. He was very kind and courteous. Without his assistance we would not have been able to solve the problem because a tire of that size was not available anywhere else. We were quickly on the road again thanks to the manager! But the employees are extremely rude and lack of knowledge when it comes to tools ,my advice is to make sure you are not in a hurry when you go to the store as you will be looking for what you need, with no help from the employees read more

Customer service is horrible here. I asked 3 people for help searching for 2 products. Two sent me to a man named Dave. Dave was called over the intercom but never came. I went to the back of the store to find him. When I found him, he did not know what an inch/foot calculator was and simply gave me the number of the aisle to find my other item. I spent 30 minutes searching the store by myself. I would not recommend this store for anyone that needs customer service. read more

Employees went above and beyond to help with a Christmas gift for my husband! I didn't know what he wanted, but I knew that he had ripped 2 coupons out of a coupon booklet (and I couldn't find the coupons anywhere in the house - surely they were eaten by the dog or children). I took the coupon booklet to the store, an employee at the register found a copy of the complete coupon booklet, figured out the coupons that were missing, scanned them so that I could pay right then, and asked me to go get my car so that a manager could load it for me. I didn't even have to track down the items! It was so easy, and I really appreciated it! And, for what it's worth, my husband says Harbor Freight has great prices on their tools, especially if you're using one of their many coupons. I highly recommend this place, and apparently so do others -- as I was walking in, a man walking out looked at me and said, "GREAT store" (without a hint of sarcasm).
