I really like this place. Most Of the equipment and tools we need are here and comparable to the ones at competitors. The prices are very competitive. You can also get a warranty and usually there is a sale going on. The store is well lit and clean. No crap all in the aisle. And things are usually in stock. Customer service is very nice. Quality is comparable to any other store. Usually the same brands. Everything I've ever bought has not broken and been very reliable. Every other company brags about how good their tools are. Cheap decent tools... Harbor Freight was my go-to place for "throw away" tools for years but to be honest, the quality of their stuff has gone up and the prices have pretty much stayed the same. This particular store is well organized and clean, most things are pretty easy to find and if not, they have very helpful associates that can point you in the right direction. Over the years I've noticed they started stocking name brands like Lincoln, Duralast, Klein and others. The prices are obviously higher for bigger names but, still a lot less than places like Sears or any of the big hardware stores. My thought on HF - stop in if you need a decent tool you're only gonna use a handful of times and don't want to spend a whole lot. read more

Terrible customer service. HF originally messed up an online order. Links in their email were broken, and I never received a reply to my email requesting help. When I returned the item to the store, it took 4 employees and 25 minutes to resolve the issue. There was clearly no process in place, and they finally made up a solution to at least get my money back. In all I wasted about 4 hours of my life because of HF's mistake, and there was no apology or compensation. read more

This deserves five stars! For being a chain store, I always expect them to be less than ambitious to put in some effort in their work. Not like that here. The place is run like a family owned business, and the employees usually know what they're talking about except the cashiers; they're there for a reason. The selection? Almost everything had a lifetime warranty! Plus, they have the best prices! Now, they might not have everything, but they've got quite a good amount. read more

Nice selection of, well anything your imagination can take you. Their Pittsburgh tool warranties are for life. No questions and brand new replacements. Kind of like the old Craftsman tools we loved for that reason. I do a lot of heavy automotive repairs and have yet to have a tool malfunction or break. You can't beat the price anywhere. They also carry more top shelf tools for twice the amount, but I'll stick with what I've trusted for the last 5 years. Occasionally they were of stock on items that I needed asap, and that's what the 4 star rating comes in to play. I'm planning a trip this morning and hopefully I'm not disappointed. read more

Love harbor freight but the staff in the Schererville store is the worst. First I have to deal with "Jim the supervisor" (whos trying desperately to look busy while doing absolutely nothing) to retrieve some item from the back room because hes not bothered to restock the shelf. He seems insulted that I would ask him for help but after some whining he meanders into the back room for 10 mins and then appears with my item. Then I make my way to the front register to check out and are told twice by the clerk that I can't return this item if its broken. She then insists on highlighting the same instructions on the receipt. How condensing.. read more

I have only been to this store a few times. I have to say that I was very impressed with the amount of selection in the store. The staff I talked to about a few things was patient and informative. I bought several items and the quality of the items were just has the employee described. Very happy with the purchases and yes will return and have informed several friends as well. read more

Well, I drive over during the parking lot sale and the sign says any yellow tagged item on Sunday is 30% off. They have trailers on clearance (yellow tag) for $299. Cool, that's $100 off. I grab a ticket and wait in line. Of course they don't have any in stock. I bet they will tomorrow when the sale is over. I had other items to purchase but left with nothing. If you have tickets in the pouch to bring up to the cashier then have the damn merchandise available. read more
