This is a toy store, for bigger boys. I've heard people say "oh Harbor Freight Tools, they're no good." If you're do it yourselfer or a hobbyist; do you really need to buy a tool that you might only use once in a while, that costs a small fortune?! You also need a place to keep it. Think about that. The Sales people are also very helpful, and seem to know what they're selling. They can answer a question or two without getting a blank look on their face. That's reassuring. It happens every time; I stopped in to return a metal gas can for a refund. I couldn't help myself - I needed an ax that was not too heavy for me to swing occasionally. That led to another thing - tarps, batteries, odds and ends, etc. Since there was a great deal on a drill and drill bit set, yep. I picked that up too. Mind you, I'm not handy, but I do have a few small projects that need doing. So I returned to $60 item and walked out with almost $200 in my wagon. Oh my goodness. It's awesome to see a retail hardware store such as Harbor Freight, which is well stocked, has great deals, and staying on top of staying organized with recovery. Most of the departments are well categorized in an area with their products, with signs indicating which main items are there. They do a great job of organizing it, making it easy to find them. There are an endless amount of tools they carry, and it's impressive to see the many choices to offer. Great service is provided at Harbor and nothing beats that. read more

Was going to get a couple of lawn ornaments but when I stood there a LONG time, I gave up. I really want to be out in my community buying from locals 1st always, this just doesn't work. I give the store 5 stars but the way I found the bathroom was deplorable. I was in there minding my buissness buying some tools with some coupons so I could shut my wife up about projects at home when the 4 beers I had at buffalo wild wings came calling. I headed to the bathroom and when I opened that door I couldnt beleive my eyes, I think they actually were popping out of my head. I honestly feel like the person who commited this heinous act should be put in prison for the murder scene in this place. No joke when I say D E S T R O Y E D thats a understatement. Think of drinking a gallon of yahoo after eating a tuna fish sandwhich and then throwing it through a screen door. There was literally shit 3 feet on the walls, toilet and even the poor plunger got it. I dont know anyone could get shit on top of a toilet tank lid but this guy (or gal) deserves a world fucking record. They are going to need the fire department and a haz mat team to cleanup that situation. It was so bad I held my 4 beers and turned around. There was a guy standing behind me and I told him to hide his,wife hide his kid and get the hell out. Ive seen some truck stop bathrooms (ya know whith the little eye hole in the doors) and never seen anything like this. I'm sorry I'm a man who doesn't come into many tool stores, but I did find myself over the weekend needing something (that some other family member needed and found here within the last 6 weeks) that I couldn't find anywhere else within the Dutchess/Ulster county area. I was pleased with my visit - though the checkout process was really aggravating (and seemed to have gotten worse as I waited for the line (which wasn't moving very fast, even with two lanes open) to check people out. When I couldn't find the right types of items I was looking for (despite not knowing it's common name (but could describe it's actions) and went looking for an employee to give me directions, it didn't take too long to find one. When I asked them, they told me it could be in one of two aisles, but although the aisles were very close by (the other side of the center walkway divider), they told me the aisles but didn't try to help me much (apparently, their work stocking and cleaning was more important...but I was okay with that). However, what really aggravated me was that once I got up to the front of the line the first thing out of the employee's mouth was the question about the telephone number (for the rewards system) - even though I wanted my own - I gave them my family members phone number and they found it right away! I figured with a line growing as long as it was and at the speed things were moving, best not going that route. The person could've asked about signing up other members. (I really wasn't expecting them to send him an emailed receipt with the products in my order.) They scanned the item (even though they tore the plastic packaging slightly due to the nature of the plastic being so flimsy, handed me the product back (they are selling paper bags), gave me the receipt and out the door I went - pretty okay. Although I can't say the place was spotless, it wasn't overly dirty either. They were reshelving items and several aisles were packed at the ends with either employees or other items and navigating around was like a spider-web/maze. read more

I stopped by Harbour Freight after work to pick up a breaker bar for an ongoing battle with a stubborn serpentine belt. A few minutes later, an older male employee approached me, waving his arms, and demanded I give him my laptop backpack, because he "didn't like backpacks." He told me that he'd told me three times to surrender my bag (containing my work laptop, wallet, and various other electronics) and was quite upset that I hadn't immediately jumped to obey his patriarchal authority (I'd had my earbuds in, not expecting a wannabe TSA to ambush me in the HF automotive aisle). I suppose if you grew up in a time when women didn't do men's work, a mechanically inclined female might be too impossible to imagine. (Why would a woman enter a tool store? Clearly, they must be shoplifting!) I placed my breaker bar on the shelf and left the place, telling him not to worry about it: I would just order it on Amazon. I'm willing to pay for garbage tools; I'm not willing to pay to be treated like garbage. read more

Love this place. I true DIYers paradise. They have good quality tools for a fraction of the price compared to name brand tools. A lot of their tools come with a lifetime warranty so what do you have to loose? Needless to say if you snag a couple coupons from their monthly catalogs or off the app "retail me" you can pick up a free item with your purchase along with 20% off your purchase price. Decent store. Be prepared for the blast of "Asian" rubber smell when you open the door, though. I've shopped at this location since they've opened and they continue to go through managers like they're going out of style. A number of them have been absolute jerks, but some have been helpful. In my experience, If you have a problem with one and aren't getting anywhere, come back another time when someone else is on and try your luck then. As far as tool exchanges (swapping a broken one out with a new one) go, I've never really had a problem doing one there, but then again I ALWAYS save the box/literature that spells out the terms of the warranty and bring it with me. Relying on warranty info that's posted on their website might not get you anywhere. HF tools are easy to criticize but I own enough stuff to say that SOME of their stuff is really fantastic and sold at a very fair price. That said, some of it is junk, too, but may be fine for those who only need to use the tool for light duty applications. HF has made attempts to move more upscale (or give the appearance of it, anyway) recently on a lot of their tools (with made up 'brands' no ones ever heard of Hercules, Baur, etc). That's not a bad thing in itself, but the prices for some of it are not the deal HF is known for. Use your head when shopping and you might realize some of it isn't really that much cheaper than a name brand tool available elsewhere (which may also have a longer warranty, as well). read more

First of all they don't return things with an email receipt like they say. They can never find it in there computer so 3 trips to there store and still won't return it. I left it in there store and they can have the shit saw. I called corporate headquarters and I will be disputing my charges tomorrow. I will never in my life step foot inside that store ever again. Not happy right now with this location. Purchased toilet and when contractor opened it the lid was broken and the bolts were missing so they put it in my car and I went to exchange it. Needed help lifting it out of car but no male associates were responding the the call. Waited as they called over intercom 3 times for help. Finally a female associate and I went and got it. Then the return desks tells me "go get another one". I couldn't find a cart then had to ask, again, for help. Once all the paperwork was completed i, again, waited over 5 minutes as they called for help again. Frustrated, I left the store hoping to find someone in the parking lot to help me lift it into the car when a male associate finally came out. Not happy! read more

I have always been suspicious of HFT, the quality is on the low end, but if your not using the tool professionally, then it generally lasts for home use. I had a very good experience, that i did not expect. I had purchased a chipper at HFT, and thinking of the quality being questionable, got the extended warranty. Sure enough, 218 months later, 2 year warranty, the chipper woudl not start. 1 callt o HFT warranty, and I am given a code for a replacement. I take it to the store in Poughkeepsie. As soon as i walked in the staff is helping me with the return, and before I could say anything, they have brought a replacement out from the back room, and waited for me to finish the transaction, and then they loaded it into the car. could not have been more helpful. great experance. read more
