I placed a phone call to the store, in a desperate situation where my window stopped rolling up on the freeway, and the woman I spoke with assured me that as long as i arrived before 8pm, they would help me out. Well, I arrived a minute before they closed to the doors already locked. I look in the window, and there's a woman with a grin on her face as if she won some competition that only she was apart of. She could've just told me it was too late, I don't understand the point in misleading me. I've never had any issues with the store in the past, and they are always upfront about the restocking fee for returns. However, what they don't explain is that if an item is out of stock and you choose to return it instead of waiting for it to come back in stock or driving to another location, you are still charged the restocking fee. I don't think that's fair or reasonable.. The store manager refused to waive it and even said he couldn't even store the return unless I paid the restocking fee??? read more

This store has come a long way. It's always had it regular grumpy old people. And the one lady that is so loud and rude! But they've got new staff! It's been quite some time since I was there last I didn't like the customer service then but I was forced a few weeks ago and boy I am not disapointed. The girls at the registers. Are doo helpful and friendly. Moving things along in a got manner but not rude. There is a lady there. I think she must be manager of sorts going back and forth between registered. Keeping folks focused on things other that's the line and so friendly she seemed to know all of us. I like that. I've come here a couple of times with my Dad when he's needed tools, this time it was my turn to check out the gardening area. As usual they have pretty competitive rates compared to other places. I should have gotten my cordless hedge trimmer here instead of online. I would have saved about 20 dollars. I decided to buy some fiskars and gloves. I made a mental note to buy a tree pruner when it was time. All in all, great place to buy tools especially when comparing to other big name stores. read more

For the O2 sensor that I'm going to pull maybe three times, Harbor Freight has the perfect $5.99 socket that I'll use and will put away for a looooong time. That being said, returns are a cinch here, especially with a receipt. If you are looking for tools to use professionally, look elsewhere. Come on people- these are discount tools for the amateur wrencher. Don't be surprised if a tool breaks on you, but also don't throw away the receipt- they'll replace close to every tool you may break. read more

I had to find a cart with wheels for my firepit which did not have wheels; I checked prices at Home Depot, Lowes, Orchard, and Ace Hardware-all wanted charging more for the same product! I paid $12.00 minus a discount coupon of %15% for my cart with wheels whereas the other places wanted to charge me $18.00 to $25.00! I save a lot visiting here for sure! I'm the girl with the most tools, thus excited a FH was so close. Could this be my new candy shop? On a quest for a hammer drill, I was enticed by the $20 (I may use it twice) deal. Then came the old bait and switch. The internet showed stock, the "manager" gave me some lame excuse as he tried to upsell me. Saw me coming! The store was severely understaffed. A gentleman, who had patiently waited in the wrong aisle, was firmly told to go to aisle 5. Unless you were present when staff shouted out there was a queue on aisle 5, there was no way to know. Having just arrived, asked the staff to help him first. This is not the checkers fault, but the managers disorganization (see above). Unless you need a quick item and are on that street, stop on by. Otherwise, stick to Home Depot. The Home Depot in Fairfield is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure to do business with. read more

I went to purchase more than $200 of items today. At the cashier, I asked about the 20% off the previous customer had received. The manager informed me that there was no 20% discount was available. I pressed him about the previous customer. He said there was no 20% discount available. A third time I asked. Only then I was told about the 20% online coupon. He then chose to put my transaction on hold, asking me to step out of line. The checker was also amazed at the manager's behavior. Very rude. Honesty would have saved a lot of time. And then he walks away before I could respond. I then looked up the online discount, and had it on my phone. I received the discount and informed the cashier that I thought the manager was an a$$h013. He need to be educated about customers and customer service. Or go back to shipping and receiving, but they would find out he is unqualified for that position too. read more

I placed an order in November 2022. Was told it was on back order every month since then six months now I have been emailing inquiring about my order. Sometimes I get a reply sometimes I don't I basically get it's on back order. OK it's been six months twice now I received an email stating my item has been shipped. The problem is I didn't order that item. They had my order numbers mixed up with somebody else's. I called several times and I get oh we're sorry let me check on that and get back to you and then I don't hear anything we will not ever order online or purchase in store from Harbor freight again I understand mixups happen. After all this time, I finally set foot at a Harbor Freight Tools. Never had the need to as I've always gone to other hardware stores that were conveniently within reach. Many items are priced low, but I can't say for all. As for quality, only time will tell. I had this tendency to look for things that won't take any serious abuse. Picked up a clamp reader and tire chocks. I'm sure they many great quality products. Eventually I'll try more products they carry in the future when the opportunity arises. read more

I sent my 16 yr old son to buy a pressure washer, and being a 16yr old boy who doesn't know any better looses the receipt. I went back to the store and i was told that he could not get a refund without a receipt, and since he lost it they would not make an exception. Now, what kind of business now a days with all the technology in place can't pull up a receipt and refund a kid his money. Harbor freight tools should be call harbor freight stool because this is crap that a kid can't return something because he lost a receipt. Can't say i will be buying thing there anylonger. Yea, the stuff is made in China, but so are 95% of Sears Craftman tools. If you want made in the USA, you'll have to go to one of the vendors like Snap-On or Mac. But then you'll pay plenty for it and even then you better read the label. Harbor Freight has enabled me to purchase stuff I could only dream of in years past, like engine stands and hoists. Go to the Fairfield store on any given day and you'll find at least a dozen guys in there shopping. All the employees I've interacted with have been polite and helpful. I recently went to the store To purchase a workbench. I had a coupon and I carefully read it for the exclusions, The workbench was not excluded by brand name or by description, However they refused to honor the coupon. When I spoke to the manager Jay, He told me that he could not honor the coupon, Which I knew was not true. I ended up purchasing the same workbench with the couponAt the Vallejo store. I come one day with a coupon for a free tool, but the cashier refused it, saying that its been used already and I can't use it again. How do you know it was used already?, I asked. I, Had a order placed online and paid for the items in full on my debit card after waiting for two weeks for my paid items $1750.00 by the way. A call was made as to where my order was, in transit I was told from Calf: I advised the phone operator that the order was cancelled due to the fact the equipment was needed NOW! and to issue a refund. The rude operator advised me that the order had to be returned back to Cal: I live on the east coast and I could have driven to Cal: and back in the time that had elapsed NO REFUND. I've been through here a few times now shopping with the family and have come to expect a few things each time I come -- 1) Low prices 2) Lots of trash in the parking lot and 3) Friendly employees. Our most recent trip today didn't go quite as smooth as past visits though. While they had everything we needed, the cashier who helped us accused my boyfriend of lying when the cashier himself (a fellow by the name of Manuel) was too distracted with a phone call to pay attention. My boyfriend was admittedly being a bit tricky by having 3 transactions go through, each with 20% off coupons. One transaction with myself paying, one with our daughter and one with him. Each pulling out cash and coupons to pay for the specific items. Okay, so maybe it's a little not-so-sneaky doing that, but their 20% off coupons say limit 1 per person. Well, I'm a person, my guy's a person and our daughter is a little person. All people. But apparently, if you have a kid try to pay for anything with their coupons they question it. The guy refused to accept the coupon my daughter had and insisted that my boyfriend had put the cash on the counter when it was actually my daughter. Not only that, but when the phone rang with the distracting phone call he completely halted our transaction to talk on the phone, our cash still in his hand. This is a pet peeve of mine. We had to stand there for an extra few minutes while he chatted on the phone, apparently unable to provide change for a $10 bill while doing so. But, hey, I'm a reasonable human being. I know not everyone who works there is a sassy pants who can't multitask. It's coooool. The real issue I have with this place is that their products are cheaply made and best for short term use. Sure, they have some quality stuff here, but not a whole lot. Look at this place as a mega-discount hardware store because that's what it is. The low prices directly translate to the quality of the merchandise. Like i said though, not everything here is poorly made...just a large amount of it for one store. On another note, their parking lot is filthy. It would take an employee maybe 10-15 minutes with one of their own extended reach "pinchy-grabby" tools to clean the lot. It's not that big. Are we sensing a theme here? I would give it 2 stars but the majority of the employees have been friendly, helpful individuals and the inside of the store is kept much cleaner than the outside. read more

I've been shopping at Harbor Freight for 10 or 15 years. I remember the days when MADE IN JAPAN meant junk. Now they make the best devices and cars. It's the same with MADE IN CHINA. The people complaining about low quality tools are still living twenty years in the past. The Chinese are making great tools and supplies today. They are well designed, strong, long lasting and yet somehow still cheap. Their design features are as good or superior to American design. Yes, there can be problems. They discontinued a battery I needed for using a portable tool a year after I bought it. But they are helpful and full of discounts from their already cheap prices and it's easy to bring anything back. That one review that is griping because he was asked for an ID - what crap. This place is great. every time I need a tool they seem to have it. Never had a problem with any returns. The prices are good. They have some good quality china made tools. The warranty is as good as Sears. When the hand tools break just bring them back. I can always find a 20% discount when I go there. read more

Only thing I can say about Harbor Freight Tools is that they always have a perpetual sale. So their sale prices really aren't sale prices there every day prices. Tools are ok good for the average homeowner but terrible for the tradesmen. I called them throw away tools. read more

I am really tired of buying the cheap tarps. When I FIRST started buying them from Harbor Freight, the "good ones" were silver and would last a couple years. Gradually the quality has dropped. I just had my newest set of FOUR fail in 2 months. The price gets higher the quality sinks to unacceptable levels. YES, I HAVE purchased tarps from other suppliers, they are no better. They all come from offshore manufactures that don't give a darn about anything but profit. I don't understand how we put up with poor quality junk that ends up in landfills.
