Rockler Woodworking & Hardware

Rockler Woodworking & Hardware

They are good for power tool woodworkers. Some of the rocker branded tools are great, some (like…read moretheir chisels) are cheap for good reason.

I went to this store, in order to buy a piece of Mahogany that I need for a project…read more While I was there, the store was overwhelming staffed and patroned by older men who I found to be rude. The lumber section of the store is in a back corner, and isn't a very large area. While I was selecting my piece of wood, several men would just walk walk in front and around me, without saying excuse me nor being verbal at all. It was like I wasn't even there, to them. So as to not get touched or knocked over, I had to move away from the lumber twice, even though I wasn't finished making my selection, just so I wouldn't be "in the way." When I went to check out, I was standing in line, and the cashier, Don, called the gentleman who was behind me up to the register to check out. That gentleman let the cashier know that I was ahead of him and it was my turn to check out. I had actually been standing in line for a while before the customer behind me even got in line. Don then called me up- he offered no apology. As he checked me out, Don didn't ask if I had found everything ok. Didn't ask if I needed anything else. Generally unfriendly. I just generally noticed a certain theme in this store, and I don't like the vibe. Maybe some diversity, in gender and/or race, would help offset that vibe. I'm not sure, and don't really care because me nor my dollars will be returning.

Douglas County Master Gardeners Greenhouse - Stunning!

Douglas County Master Gardeners Greenhouse

I attended the Douglas County Master Gardeners Plant Sale for the first time this year. This…read moreannual plant sale is held the first Saturday in May. Initially I had mixed feelings but now that I am starting to really enjoy many of the plants I purchased, I can honestly say that it was definitely a trip worth taking. Here is what initially gave me pause about the experience : It was held in a small crowded wooded area with uneven terrain and plenty of bugs. This was a problem because it was difficult to get around with carts and wagons. If you are smart, you take your wagon. It could have been held in their very spacious parking lot which would have offered a much better experience. The volunteers who were hosting the sale were difficult to identify. It would have been nice if they had all been wearing matching fluorescent vests or name tags. This is a small town so there was a lot of "visiting' going on when more attention should have been given to customers who had many questions were often left searching for assistance. When it came to the plants, not all of them were accurately labeled or priced and this created an inconvenience at check-out. There should be a rule that before plants are put out on display, they must be correctly identified and priced. We purchased quite a few plants and now that I have been able to identify them and they are starting to bloom, I am quite excited. I purchased several plants that you won't find in a local garden center and they were extremely affordable. If you go, observe the following: Arrive early Use bug spray Wear comfortable shoes Take a wagon or cart for convenience. Most importantly, know what is a "must puchase " and get it first!
