" Wine Flights" We enjoyed the wine inside their wine barn. This early 1900's barn is now an air conditioned wine sampling wine barn. We paired our wine with a yummy charcuterie board. The bartender knew everything about the wines we sampled, and about the history of the Harbes family farm. After enjoying the wine, we headed out to pet the farm animals. Yes they have 2 Highland Cows. The baby goats were our favorite! Then MJ got lost in the Hedge Maze lol, see video below. We enjoyed roasted corn on the cob and some fresh lemonade. Harbes Family Farm is exactly as described, there's a farm to feed animals, a stand to shop for fresh veggies as well as unique ice cream flavors. My favorite was the Apple Cider Doughnut Ice Cream. Soooooo good! I also had to try the corn ice cream. I mean, I love local corn from our Long Island. If they can make vodka from Long Island potatoes, corn ice cream isn't a big stretch. This was a nice place to stop and enjoy the bounties of Long Island.

It's small, no frills and some of the apples were rotten. The peaches I bought and the apples we got were good. It's $10 a person per bag and each bag is allowed about 10 apples. I bought a bag of peaches for $15 and they were very good. We could pick them because they were out of season. Maybe next time.

Entrance was $4 per person, but you the first $4 worth of peaches back. And it was only $2/Lb thereafter. A bargain. Even with the loss of much fruit and some trees from the storm, we were able to find about 80 pounds of peaches after an hour. Most needed a few more days to soften. But, some of us enjoy their tartness and crunchiness anyway. And despite having large sections of the farm roped off, due to fallen trees, there was plenty of space for our family to roam without bumping into other people. There was also a stand selling grilled corn. And, there were plenty of portopotties, with anti bac available. Our family had a nice time and took home enough peaches to spread around a few families. And it was a bargain compared to other farms we've been to. Sweet! Made the hour drive from Queens worth it.

The farm is behind the stand and a tractor was going and signs were up to not pick the smaller plant section. Must have pick your own going on some things. Saw a super tall young farmer like 6'7" hop out of his pick up to do something by the stand then zip back to the field. hahaha. Farmers are all so cool. Young ones even nicer to see. What's not to love about a real farm stand? Just before the busy strip West of Riverhead's busy shopping hub on 58. Nice friendly people all said hi.

Not only was parking very difficult to navigate, there were barely any staff inside the children's play area. After paying $15 per child, you'd expect at least some employees keeping tabs on the play area. So many of the kids' toys/playgrounds were over capacity to the point of being dangerous. Additionally, the poor cows in the beginning of the animal area had wounds on their legs that were exposed. I hate to think that they are not being well taken care of. While we were excited to see a Mickey and Minnie to take photos with, the costumes were lacking the typical playful features. They were most definitely a step (or two) down from the real costumes. The kicker was that the $10 Mickey pretzel didn't even come warm. $20 for two cold pretzels is something else. Overall a pretty disappointing experience.

Wanted to try to strawberry short cake but it looked like half of a sheet cake ... my stomach can't take that much of fabulousness at one go so I opted not to eat any (they looked delish though). Seems like another Yelper had went the day after I did (I was there Saturday). Was told by the organizers that the strawberry crop was small this year and that the ones leading to the fair opening was destroyed by rainy days weeks before the festival. They were selling fresh strawberries but were secretly just re-packaging them from ones you can buy from supermarkets. But what the heck, it was for charity so we went ahead and got some anyways. Free admission for fathers on Father's Day. The LIRR will take you to the Mattituck station where shuttle buses will ferry you to and from the LIRR station (their site has a phone number u can call should you want to inquire more about the shuttles). TIP: If you are driving to the festival, be sure to park at the designated parking lot and take the shuttle to the fair grounds. Never park near the fair grounds unless you get there very early or else you'd be facing traffic the whole time. This is a great small town/local flavor festival. It's not a large festival but is definitely "charming".

Though there were vendors, not one of them had any strawberry related goods. What I did enjoy was the strawberry shortcake eating contest and the crowning of the strawberry queen (the only two events that made it feel like I was at a strawberry festival). There were also chocolate strawberries being sold as well as strawberry shortcake slices (but I got one for free because I was front row for the eating contest and there were many extra!). They have haystacks for the littlest to jump and play on. Make sure to check out the mini haunted house in the barn. They have lots of pumpkins ready to go or if you prefer to pick me cut your own pumpkins off the vine. Before leaving we paid for our pumpkins at the farm stand and bought some fresh produce and snacks.

We found ourselves in between tall weeds trying to pick some berries. It seemed as though there were not as many strawberries to be picked either. I hope these are just growing pains and will be cleaned up and expanded for next year. The swings on the tree and the little market were kept nice. I also loved the addition of the chairs and tables outside.

Prudence is a very creative and wonderful florist who has a great reputation and history out here on the North Fork. The family farm grows fruit, flowers and is home to beautiful doves as well. The 135 acre farm dates back to the 1600s when the land was gifted by King Charles II of England. Yes, pre-independence America. It's a fascinating story!
