Harbes Orchard has a number of points of interest inside. There is apple picking, a corn maze, concession stands, a wine gazebo, small local vendors, pony rides and much more. There is a fee to get in which includes many things depending on the package you choose. As 2 adults with no children, the cheapest package included more than we would have taken advantage of, as we only went for the apple picking and to get some snacks. One of the things we really like about Harbes, is that in your price of entry you are given small bags to pick apples. Other places charge an entry fee and then a fee for the weight of the apples you pick. Since our main purpose was to pick apples, we were a bit disappointed at the selection that was available. There were 4 kinds of apples available to pick. One of them was only a row or two and every apple on the trees was rotten which then left us with only 3 kinds to choose from. We walked the rows and then took the tractor ride out to the further rows but selection was still scarce. I think the thing that made us question the most, is that we were driven around to the back rows and passed a TON of rows with trees that were ripped off and they had the biggest and best looking apples on them. All of the closed off rows said they weren't ripe, but the apples on those trees in comparison to the ones we were able to pick were triple the size. All in all, it's a good experience, many photo worthy spots but probably best if you had children as a lot of the activities are geared for kids. read more

Having been to the Jamesport affiliate of Harbes, I was a little wary of how this one would turn out, but I was pleasantly surprised! Despite going during peak fall season for apple picking, they have really done a great job to make the whole getting in and out MUCH easier. Biggest gripe is that it feels a little pricey for the tiny little bag they give you for picking. Apple variety was quite good and the staff gave plenty of helpful tips and directions to find the best apples in the orchard. Despite hwo busy it was, it still didn't even really feel TOO crowded just with how large the space is. The place also has options for food, wine, pumpkin picking, a corn maze, kids activities and of course apple cider donuts that can't be missed! This place may have singlehandedly renewed my faith in Long Island apple picking. read more

Really great experience. We paid for access to the orchard along with the corn maze and the 12lb bag. Went during the week so it wasn't very crowded. Went to the Moonlight maze for a fun experience. dead totally disappointed. The fee was 25 per adult. Rather expensive. In previous years, they had enjoyable scary interactions throughout the maze making it fun. This year there was one poor guy running around the maze trying his best. Out East to Harbes Orchard to pick Apples on Labor day. Light flow of people on a rather hot day. They had a selection of apples to choose from and the tractor to bring you to the back area . It goes rather slow and makes a u turn and returns every 5 minutes or so. Seems there has been so little rain if it goes faster there is a lot of dust that kicks up from the dry ground. The trees are not supper high so you can reach out and pick them, though you do have the option of the apple stick picker for the higher chosen apples. Macs, Blondies, Honey Crisp and the like. A few bites into one or two and they are ok but not super sweet. Perhaps they are not quite ripe yet. As many others had listing and closure tapes with signs saying do not pick them yet. They have handicap parking and areas can be gotten to by a scooter or wheel chair. Today was what felt like a soft opening. Some of the vendors were not set up though they mention next week as up and running. Though they do have a corn maze a few activities, photo spots, outside picnic tables a bbq kitchen area and a man singing with a guitar very nicely. There is a wonderful lady named Chrissy Candles (see pix) there for a few dollars you get to pick a cup, various named colored smelling waxes and you make a candle. You even get sparkles, a little wax figurine to add and a sticker choice for your glass candle creation. Its not just for kids. I had fun and made something really nice. Once you pay - per credit card- you get a bag to pick apples. You get a paper bracelet which allows you access to go and return. Upon leaving crew mark the bags of apples with a black magic marker swipe. The lunch choices consist of grilled corn in butter, crisp hot dogs, a panini sandwich, apple straddle alamode with vanilla ice cream and a few other items for sale as pop corn and candied apples. Jayim the young lady behind the counter at the kitchen, was particularly helpful and kind when the heat was a bit too much for us. Very few places for shade. Told there was a produce farm area 1 and a half miles down we went. To my surprise there was very little to buy at higher than expected prices. They did not even sell fresh corn there. We had to go elsewhere and I hope what I bought is sweet like the grilled corn there. All in all it is a wonderful outing to go out East to this or one of the many farms out there for Apple picking and pumpkin picking to come. read more

I believe this would be the first and last time we visit this orchard. We were charged $29 per person to get in regardless if we wanted to buy apples and how many bags of apples. They had a "less expensive option" of $24, but it did not include the corn maze. Our family spent about $150 to get 5 small bags that fit less than 10 apples each along with all other experience in there. Other experience includes live music, hayride, a toss game and a small playground. My youngest boy wanted to do pony ride, but we had to pay separately for that. Pony ride cost $10 for 1 round, $15 for 2 rounds and $20 for 3 rounds. It is a very small area for pony ride and it took probably less than 1 minute for a round. They also had candle making, tie dyed shirts, tattoos around, but ALL of these were not included in the admissions. The pumpkin patch only had very limited amount of pumpkins and they were scattered around on muddy ground. Kids were not excited to go find their pumpkins at all. The corn maze was a joke & disappointing and I would not suggest to pay the extra $5 admission to do it here. This corn maze was really small and most people can finish walking through it in less than 10 minutes. And more important, regardless which direction (left or right) you turn at intersections, you would get to the same spot in a few steps. The only thing we enjoyed was apple picking due to the variety of apple we could choose from. They also had sticks for people to use to pick the apples up on the top of the trees. They did not open up all areas, so some trees in the front were already empty and we had to walk toward the end to find trees with more apples to be picked. There were plenty of staff there to answer questions and they seemed friendly. The actual hayride time was short, but it was a wait to get on either way. Wish they had an option to just walk from the apple trees to the main location. Lines everywhere, for bathroom, buy foods, wines, etc. Lots of traffic to get into the orchard, farms, etc. on Sound Avenue, so be prepared for the traffic if you are going mid-day on weekends. read more

Our family goes to Harbes Orchard ever single year to pick apples...it's always been our favorite. There's plenty to do for younger kids and the cider donuts are delicious (we always stock up). Removing a star simply for an occurrence this year that just rubbed us the wrong way. My father had walked in with an outside cup...nobody had said anything to him upon approaching the counter to pay for entry. Upon entering the property a man (I assume management or some sort of owner) YELLED from a distance for him to throw away the cup as it's not allowed. Embarassing? Extremely. I visited the Harbes Orchard a few weeks ago and I must say it was a very nice experience. The apples were nice and fresh. I am still eating apples from that trip. The food my group and I ordered was delicious. We had the hot dogs, corn, cold cider, apple cider donuts and ice cream with the apple pie. Everything was fresh and tasty. I enjoyed the corn. It was sweet and well prepared. The pumpkins were also very nice and affordable. My niece and nephew took them home and craved and decorated them. Apple picking is a wonderful fall activity for people of all ages and Harbes is well known for fall activities out on the North Fork. I was actually taken aback at the absurd prices because my boyfriend and I ended up paying $20 per person for about 5 apples each. There were barely any left on the trees when we went yesterday so for those who plan on going in the upcoming weekends- be aware of this and go sooner than later. The food and drinks are severely overpriced - $5 for corn on the cob... what a joke. Anyways if you're okay for over paying then this would be a good spot for a typical fall activity. read more

Let me tell you - NOT worth it. So lets calculate this, you come with a party of 3 people, that's $51, for apples rotting because you'll never eat them. They must be crazy. I've been to other picking orchards out east with free games and music, that were JUST as good, if not better. I got a 3 year old and 1 year old so one was free lol Tip: Parking is free!! We enjoyed it very much!!! They have various activities in the fall, including pumpkin picking in the pumpkin patch (this is a great area to take family pics too!), playground area for the kids, hayride, barnyard animals to feed, birds area (the birds can stand on your arms!) outdoor shows, and bounce play for the kids! The employee advertised when we bought our tickets (3) I even asked twice about hayride being part of our ticket. My child was upset that hayride was closed but we told him not to worry we're going to the Harbes "family" adventure Usually after Harbes Orchard we follow to Harbes family farm adventure When I got here I requested if we could please get Hay ride waive since that's charged additional. And told me I should go back to orchard and ride the Apple truck which we had already picked apples so why would I go through the trouble. This is as good as it gets when it comes to apple picking on Long Island. Granted, the perfect October weather didn't hurt, but this place had it all. Spacious grounds, food counter options, live music, and, of course, ample selection for apple picking. They even had some small shopping stands and other attractions (mazes, rides) that I didn't even use. Harbes Farm & Orchard was an unexpectedly fun experience! My first time apple picking. Long drive from Brooklyn but was well worth it. We chose this location for its apple varieties and the fact that they offered more than just apple picking. They offer corn maze, pumpkin patch and pony rides, they even had archery on site. For $18 per person you get a three (3) pound bag to carry your apples. This ticket also includes the corn maze. Pony rides are extra and only for people under 65lbs (definitely no pony ride for my group hahaha). Not sure what the cost of archery is as we were too cold to do much else. My one dissatisfaction with the entire experience was the cost for food and beverage. A small cup of cider for $7.50 seemed a bit too expensive but the cider donuts were good enough to justify their price. Overall a good place to experience at least once. Lots of scenic places to take great outdoor photos. A great place for families, groups or even a couple to enjoy a day of fun. read more

Spent a day here at Harbes Orchard yesterday with family and we had a wonderful time. While we were a little worried it would be jam packed because of the line on the road leading up to Harbes was about 3 miles backed up - the farm is plenty big and we were able to do everything the farm had to offer with little to no lines. The farm is extremely well organized and they take cash and card. Although some of the items for sale are card only such as the stand with popcorn/apple cider donuts. The apple picking was amazing! Some of the trees were pick cleaned such as the golden delicious. But there were other varieties that were plentiful and tasted great. If anyone says the apples are done for the season please don't listen to them it just may be one VARIETY- I would call for the most up to date information. It is a little bit pricey if you want to buy food/drinks/donuts/etc. We found the $24 combo option to be well worth it which included a round trip ride on the tractor pulled wagon, corn maze entry, and a 3lb bag for apple picking. We managed to fit 12 medium sized apples in each bag. The corn on the cob was delicious as were the apple cider donuts! They had so many activities for kids including a pony ride, candle making, tie dye shirt making, etc. It was a ton of fun! read more

$18 per person to pick apples in an orchard with 99% of their apples on the ground. You each get a bag that fits three pounds in it. There are so few apples to pick from that they have giant totes of apples to pick from to fill up your bags. The place is always packed out so good luck moving around. Getting there after 10 am on sound ave is like being in the worlds slowest funeral procession. And don't get me started on their port-a-potty's. Apple picking on Long Island is not that great anymore. Storms before picking season ruin the stock of apples and the single lane roads by the orchids are a total nightmare thanks to all the tourists. The admission fee charged is expensive for what you get. My family usually goes upstate but I figured this would be closer. I also thought there would be more activities due to the admission fee. My older son is getting bored with just apple picking so I was hoping there would be other things to do and on the website it mentioned a bunch of "barnyard activities," however that was at a different location. Harbes Orchard is great for a "fall festivities" atmosphere, however, it gets really crowded even on a Saturday in September. The traffic was dreadful and the parking lot closed around 10AM due to maximum capacity (check their social media/website for live-updates). We ended up going to a nearby brewery first and coming back around 2PM when they were letting more people in. Admission was $18 per person/bag and the available apples for the week were mainly on the ground. I realize that Covid has been a challenge for everyone, especially local businesses. That's why we decided today To literally go on a family day trip and visit a farm on LI...an effort to support a LI business. We were forced to leave because of the huge number of people who didn't wear masks. While I realize that we were outdoors, the lanes between the apple trees were tight and somewhat crowded. Entire families were not wearing masks, and many others were wearing masks under their noses. The Harbes employees were more concerned with people sneaking out an apple that complying with their own requirements... mask signage was all over the place. Almost $100 bucks and great apples but no thanks in the future. School opens this week...good luck! read more

Ok. So I show up with my kids and wife. A family of four. The business model is pay per person (over 2). So minimum is $17 for four people. That is almost $70. I asked if I could get just two bags of apples, the response was that each person needs to have a bag and pay to enter. I left. This should be a reasonable activity for a family. If they charged a small admission fee like $5 and then per pound of apples picked, I would be inclined to pick more and get some drinks etc. going to try another place that follows that model. First and last time going there. Not much to do with the kiddies....literally no apples left on the trees. It's overpriced as well. There is a minimum $17.00 admission fee with a small tiny bag for your apples that can barely hold a few. Husband and I are first responders...they do not offer any type of discount. Very disappointed! I know it's early in the season but they only had 4 rows of honeycrisp apples to pick from, for the thousands of people pouring into the farm! We purposely got there early because of all the reviews and nothing was open but the 4 rows of apples! We picked our 3 bags of apples with in 45 minutes and it cost us $50, not worth it at all. The hey ride was for 10 people max, for thousands of people??!!! SAFETY ALERT: Please be aware that anyone with small children should use extra caution around the hand sanitizer dispensers, as it's very watery and sprays out fast; we saw a child get splashed in the face. He screamed to his guardian to take him to the bathroom so that he could wash his face. During our first -and only- visit to Harbes Orchard, which we originally planned to visit multiple Harbes properties on that day, we had an unbelievably poor experience. Originally, we expected to make it an annual pilgrimage while bringing family and friends on subsequent visits. However, due to their actions, we wanted to share this experience with others. Perhaps it was due to their lack of caring, situational awareness, or simply indifference, Harbes saw fit to ruin the day. At a time when people are dealing with the effects of an ongoing pandemic, you would think that businesses would look to make customers who make the effort to risk the social exposure, and endure wearing masks outdoors amongst strangers by patronizing a business. Sadly Harbes Orchard doesn't understand, or even care. Harbes doesn't seem to appreciate their customers, and appears to take them for granted. Perhaps, they're too big and successful now, and have lost their down-home family mentality. Harbes encourages patrons to visit during the week, yet fails to open up all attractions, or even cook hotdogs during the week (though there are no signs or mention on their website readily visible). Additionally, the patrons who were entering the Orchard before us, that day, inquired about the discrepancy between the sign which says you pay for three pounds of apples, although they only provide you with a small two pound bag. It's not like you could even stack 50% more apples on top of the bag, without them falling out. The most disturbing encounter was towards the end of our visit. We were told at the onset of our visit that the pony rides would be open shortly, and when we asked about pumpkin picking, we were told where we could find the pumpkin patch. There was no mention that the pumpkin patch wasn't open, nor did I ever see any ponies to ride. We ate lunch there, then picked some apples from the scarce supply that was still available in the only open rows (it would have been nice if they would have opened at least one new row to apple picking). After picking a few apples, we brought the bags to our car and proceeded to the corn maze. Upon entering the maze, it began to unexpectedly drizzle, as rain wasn't forecasted for the day. By the time we were navigating the maze, the skies opened-up and it began to rain heavier. Fortunately, the maze isn't big, or difficult, and we were quickly out of the maze. On our way to our car, our little one wanted to pick a pumpkin so that we could all paint them together. So we walked through the muddy field and picked out the three pumpkins which were already cut from the vine (two were smaller than a softball, and the "large" pumpkin was approximately the size of a volleyball) - simply because our two year old toddler wanted to paint pumpkins with his Mom and Dad. We deliberately walked back to the entrance, rather than walk directly to the parking lot, so that we could pay for them. That's when a principal member of Harbes Orchard contacted the girl working at the entrance, to tell us that we couldn't buy the pumpkins, because it's not open until the weekend. Imagine our dismay, especially since she was the one who had told us earlier where the pumpkin patch was located. Additionally, there were no signs indicating that the pumpkin patch was closed. We figured that they were short-staffed because of the pandemic, and the current tough economic times. We offered to pay $20 for the three pumpkins, but were still told that they couldn't sell them to us. Obviously, our toddler couldn't understand why we couldn't buy them - quite frankly, I can't comprehend it myself. We ultimately stopped by another local farm, and picked up three volleyball sized pumpkins for ~$7. Next year we will find a farm that appreciates its visitors and knows how to treat them. read more

We have made this a staple for the end of fall. We usually go the last weekend it's open, which was October 28th this year. It was a bit cold, and had a surprisingly very very small selection of apples that were worth picking unless you were seven feet tall and could reach the top. I suggest going a little earlier, especially if it's a little colder because the apples won't be any good. Nonetheless, we had a great photoshoot, and enjoyed the farms wine selections. Cute date, good for groups, great for kids, just an all around good time. There's also a pumpkin picking option and hayride. I'd say don't waste tour money on the hayride unless you have young children. Also! Do not leave without getting Apple cider donuts! read more

Honestly don't know why the rating is so bad because when I went there the vibes were immaculate. In terms of apple picking, I got a good amount of really ripe red apples. I also got to do the corn maze and this was all for $20. The apple crisp a la mode was to die for (I'm still dreaming about it). The staff were really nice and everything was properly sanitized. It's a cute place for the little ones. They got to do face painting, pony rides, candle making, apple/pumpkin picking and the corn maze! It was fun but pricey, and not to mention a long drive. One thing I didn't like was that the parking was on the grass and by the time I returned to my black car it was literally brown!So don't wash ur car before going.
