I brought my niece and nephew, and we easily had one of the funnest afternoons! The Barnyard Adventure is a paid area ($28.95 per person on weekends), but with eight acres packed full of things to do, it's worth every penny. To put the size in perspective ... it's like exploring six football fields lined up together! The highlights for the kids included getting up close with a variety of farm animals, a trike track, sports zone, and multiple playgrounds, pig races, a musical hayride ... there truly is something for all ages. The atmosphere is lively, especially with those pig races and musical hayride tours. My niece and nephew were totally engaged from start to finish. There are plenty of food stands throughout the property with the classic farm favorites. Apple cider donuts (my personal fav), popcorn, ice cream, and coffee stands for the grown-ups. Speaking of adults, a huge bonus is the vineyard right on the property. I treated myself to a glass of rosé to enjoy while the kids played, which was a nice addition. It does get busy, but the whole setup is well organized that it does not feel too crowded. Barnyard Adventure is one of those rare places that charms both kids and adults, making it a perfect fall or weekend family destination. Great for a conversation piece to bring up at any cocktail hour. We booked the oyster tour as part of a bachelorette party. We came prepared with sneakers and hat. Dave and Ben greeted us at the entrance as we drove in. It was our private and another couple. It was very informative tour as they discussed the species of oysters found in different parts and took us through the algae growing greenhouse and oyster spawning area and discussed how they select oysters. Then they took us to the waterfront where they showed the process of farming the oysters in "bags" or large metal baskets and then eventually sort them. Afterwards Ben shucked lots of oysters for us and paired it with different local wines and sauces for the oysters. Delicious! There was also non-alcoholic beverages available too. Everything was very picturesque and great for photos with the dock and the waterfront. Ben and Dave were so friendly and great at making the whole tour entertaining and educational and answered all our questions. We also left with a goody bag :) Thanks so much for an awesome time!

As far as I know, it is not certified organic, but the prices are higher than organic at stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. A very small cabbage was over $4. A bunch of radishes was $5.50. A 10-oz tomato was $3.99. The prepared foods are equally pricy, and vary widely in quality. A small tub of their "schmear", a mix of dairy and scallions that I add to potato salad dressing (it works well) is $8.50. A very small (for 2) peach galette was $8.95, but delicious and perfectly baked. A berry scone ($4.50) was a heavy lump of underbaked dough, a huge difference from the light, flaky, golden scones I get from Dagmar's in Old Saybrook. A ginger-pecan scone was better. A raspberry thumbprint "cookie" fell into pieces when I placed it in my pastry box ($4.95) -- it tasted good, but the texture was more like a lump of cold oatmeal. A single slice of house pizza ($7) made me sad -- the concept was good, but the broccoli was burnt and chewy. Most of their baked goods are too heavy and underbaked. The staff is friendly, warm, and welcoming, as well they ought to be. The parking is hideous -- cramped and inadequate, with no handicapped that I could see. The actual farmstand building is small, hot, and crowded at peak times. To sum up: I think most people assume the produce is organic, but there are no signs to that effect. The refrigerated prepared foods are generally tasty. The baked goods are a crapshoot, and at the prices, it's not worth the risk of their not being worth the money.
