    Farm

Festival Farm is a fun, charming place for all ages. My four year old daughter loved petting the Pygmy goats, donkeys, llamas and sheep! The farm stand has great local gifts, eggs, and vegetables grown on sight. All the items were very reasonably priced as well! In addition, we loved that this farm offered a toddler small train ride and housed a small playground area. Jay and his staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome! Great little hidden gem!

What a fun place for the little ones! There's so much to do. It's a very unstructured space but embrace it and let your kids wander around. They have food you can buy to feed the animals, pony rides, hay rides, and a little store with some gifts and treats. There's a little space with a slide and a few toy tractors for the kiddos to ride on. They have a hand-washing station and a portable toilet on-site. There are these two little goats that walk around and beg for pets from everyone. Don't worry, they won't bite! The animals are well-taken care of and they love seeing all the people and getting some head rubs. A fun way to spend a fall morning or afternoon.

So glad I found this gem. Such a cute little farm, I was so excited to find a petting zoo where my 1-year-old can feed the animals, the baby goats come right out of the fence and write up to you. They have a cute little farm market, pumpkins, small little play area for the kids, a pony to ride on the weekends, and it was not crowded at all maybe two people when I was there. Highly recommend to go especially with your kiddos. My 1-year-old showed no fear. He walked around independently up to animals feeding them hay. Very proud mama

Had so much fun on the hay ride!

This place was awesome! We took our one year old on his first hay ride, fed all the animals and got to see the Emu. And ofcourse purchased a bunch of yummy treats. Can't wait to go back next year and take him to ride the pony!

What a great fun place to visit. They have a very nice FREE petting zoo with goats, a cow, sheep, rams, an emu, alpacas, a rabbit, some miniature donkeys and a few cats running around. For $1.00 you can buy an ice cream cone filled with feed that all of the animals will gladly eat all off, in one bite if you let them. Be aware of warning signs and probably leave the alpacas and the emu alone. Inside the farm stand they have an assortment of nice and super fresh veggies, eggs, cider, and seasonal products like flowers, pumpkins, etc. The staff is super friendly and treat you like family just coming to visit their home. Bring the kids and show them that food doesn't come from the grocery store. It come from hard working people that work the land and bust their backs to feed the world.

My partner and I have visited a lot of petting zoos, and this by far has been my favorite! First of all, they have a huge assortment of animals, and you can pet basically ALL OF THEM (except for the emu). They were all super friendly and adorable. There are various kinds of goats, sheep, bunnies, pheasants, very friendly barn cats, and of course the emu. The owner takes care of all of them by himself for the most part and is super friendly! Would definitely go again!

There are more than 300,000 Sunflowers to pick from and the it is three dollars per person for entry to the cutting field and three dollars per flower. My mother and I had a wonderful time at Buttonwood Farm. There were plenty of Sunflowers to choose from and it's definitely for a good cause. I would suggest wearing a hat because it can become very hot and there's not necessarily paths to get to the Sunflowers. You would have to through the Sunflowers to get to some the Sunflowers. It was definitely fun and we will definitely be back.

It's a $2 suggested donation to enter the field and $2 for each flower on your way out. As much as its a suggested donation, you must pay as you enter and they arm you with a plastic bag to help with your flowers. They also have a set of sheers there for you to borrow on your visit. Now- there aren't clear walking paths. It's just you fighting your way through the sunflowers and some will be taller than you! It's beautiful but hot in that field! I can share my 10 year old's allergies started bothering her out there and my Mom said it was too hot. We clipped our flowers, took a few photos and headed out. Upon exiting we simply paid (cash) for out cut flowers. They had a nice classic truck parked out front-awesome for photos. we did not cross the street but they said they had sunflowers that came in different colors but were probably picked over at that point. It was a nice family activity but be careful- easy to lose children in these tall flowers!

For…read morebackground I have a degree in sustainable agriculture and worked on farms including ones that offer CSAs for many years. If I had known that approximately a 3rd of the each weeks offerings were pick your own I would not have signed up. Nothing against this model but each week I had to rush over from work without a lot of extra time. I often had to forgo the pick your own which made the overall value of the CSA quite low for those weeks. This is my issue not Casey Farm's but I want other folks to be aware that PYO is a major part of their CSA. That aside the assortment was fairly subpar (yes I am aware they had a lot issues with pests so I'm being lenient on this point) and pick up in the barn was often unorganized with not enough scales or bag points to move through quickly. The prepicked veggies were consistently filthy, like fully covered in dirt. None of the CSAs I worked for would have allowed this. A lot of "seconds" quality veggies in the main pick up area as well. I have no problem with veggies that need to be used quickly or have cosmetic blemishes but for example I saw zucchini that was as hard and woody as a winter squash. Wildly unacceptable as it was inedible. Until the end of the season there was very little information about the pick your own fields. There was often little to no wayfinding information both in the barn or in the fields. Also very little educational information on how to pick these items. For things like ground cherry or tomatillos this is important as many folks might not be aware of what these items look like when ripe. Most folks in the field had to help each other find the right rows and provide picking advice. For example a poor fellow customer was picking very tough old snap peas because the green bean fields weren't marked and she was in the wrong place. The folks in the barn provided very little help in this regard. I have a feeling I wasn't the only person to experience frustration with this as around august they finally starting adding some (although still minimal) instructions in the barn. I fully understand a CSA is meant to support a farm in boom and bust but knowing that Casey Farm is bolstered by Historic New England and their popular children's camp programs I think there are a lot of local farms who deserve financial support over Casey. Overall the CSA felt lazy, disorganized and frankly a rip off. I continually felt like there was very little love for the produce they grew and provided. 0/5 stars would not recommend.

As far as I know, it is not certified organic, but the prices are higher than organic at stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. A very small cabbage was over $4. A bunch of radishes was $5.50. A 10-oz tomato was $3.99. The prepared foods are equally pricy, and vary widely in quality. A small tub of their "schmear", a mix of dairy and scallions that I add to potato salad dressing (it works well) is $8.50. A very small (for 2) peach galette was $8.95, but delicious and perfectly baked. A berry scone ($4.50) was a heavy lump of underbaked dough, a huge difference from the light, flaky, golden scones I get from Dagmar's in Old Saybrook. A ginger-pecan scone was better. A raspberry thumbprint "cookie" fell into pieces when I placed it in my pastry box ($4.95) -- it tasted good, but the texture was more like a lump of cold oatmeal. A single slice of house pizza ($7) made me sad -- the concept was good, but the broccoli was burnt and chewy. Most of their baked goods are too heavy and underbaked. The staff is friendly, warm, and welcoming, as well they ought to be. The parking is hideous -- cramped and inadequate, with no handicapped that I could see. The actual farmstand building is small, hot, and crowded at peak times. To sum up: I think most people assume the produce is organic, but there are no signs to that effect. The refrigerated prepared foods are generally tasty. The baked goods are a crapshoot, and at the prices, it's not worth the risk of their not being worth the money.
