Kingdom Of The Hawk Vineyard - Wine Selection

I had the pleasure of attending a preview gathering at Kingdom of the Hawk Vineyard. It is situated…read morea few miles away from the cluster of other wineries in the southeast corner of CT. Kingdom of the Hawk is the sister winery to Saltwater Vineyard. The event was wonderful, we were treated to complimentary glasses of wine and cider (the cider was from the New England Brewing Company) accompanied by delicious catered hors d'oeuvres. We were able to explore the grounds at our leisure. The owners were present and they kindly stopped to chat with the visitors. The vineyard's exterior design exudes a charming modern barn aesthetic. While the interior has an industrial contemporary aesthetic, with polished concrete floors, steel beams, and a loft area with tables. The ambiance is reminiscent of its sister winery, Saltwater Vineyard. The vineyard has 2 parking lots, gender stalled handicap-accessible restrooms, and a beautiful ceremonial lawn. In conversation with one of the employees, I discovered that the wine is currently produced at Saltwater Vineyard. However, they will eventually combine the yields from both wineries in the future, and create wines for both vineyards. Given its ambiance, amenities, and scenic setting, I can easily see this place becoming a sought-after wedding venue and popular stop along the Connecticut wine trail. I definitely recommend visiting when they open to the public.

The other four need some development to be truly drinkable. The price for the tasting was a bit steep and higher than market, at $18 for 5 pours, especially when considering the quality of the wine.

Also, there is some additional seating (booths) available in the bar area. Still classic bar-style / feel good foods available. I had the Philly Steak sandwich with waffle fries. It was a great choice. Our other dining partner had the Fish and Chips and it was gone before i could ask how it was. Another had a burger which was ordered as medium rare but came out medium (hence the 4 stars vs 5). We did not return it as the difference was subtle. The waiter did ask how our food was and we opted not to mention it. Overall, the portions were average, the prices were very good, the quality (taste) was also very good. What I loved the most was that although the place was packed, the acoustics were exceptional. We sat in the bar area and there was no need to lean in to converse. No shouting. Just your natural voice level was enough. To me - that's a huge win!

We got take out which automatically lowers expectations but of 5 orders, we were missing 4 sides: 2 Cole slaw, 1 fries, and a Caesar salad. Pretty disappointing. Additionally, literally everything was oversalted, per everyone's taste buds. We ordered 2 cold and 1 hot lobster rolls, 1 stuffed shrimp, 1 pork cutlet, and 1 lobster bisque. The buns for the lobster rolls were nice but not grilled. The pork cutlet was covered with hot peppers, advertised for sure as cherry peppers, but if you don't like very spicey, avoid this entree. The Haversham has a good bar scene and may have good bar food but entrees are priced on the higher side and they need to get the salt and service issues under control!
