Don't listen to the negative reviews, this place is really good. Since it was my first visit, I went for a staple, General Tso's. It was fantastic. It was tangy and a little sweet and properly spicy, the chicken was crispy and they put a good amount of broccoli in it and the white rice was fresh and fluffy. I think people just like to complain about every little thing. This is a good restaurant for Chinese food. In addition, the young woman who was manning the front desk is very sweet and kind and funny. Oh, and you can also eat in. Don't be fooled by the haters. read more

food was better than decent but ultimately felt like something was lacking. got the general tso chicken and at first glance looked like i received the wrong size (still can't confirm or deny this as the portion box they showed me was different than the box i was given). also, a huge bummer as the prices are not listed on the menu at the store or in their print menu. the fried rice was mediocre at best as they just mixed soy sauce with rice and nothing else. not sure if that's a rockford thing but if it is, y'all are seriously missing out. service was fast but took about 10 mins as it was busy and there was only one person working the phones. ambiance of the store looks like an old fast food joint that was refurbished for a fast food chinese restaurant and it kept all the old dirty details. that being said, i wouldn't eat there even tho they have a soda machine available. overall an ok experience but would look for another chinese restaurant to eat at. read more

TRULY DISGUSTING- If I could give zero stars- I would! We ordered Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoon, two different Chicken entrees and a Beef entree. Oddly enough- all three entrees had the EXACT same sauce and the meat tasted like it was old. The water chestnuts tasted like the can. I ordered soup, which has always been vegetarian because my 8 year old is allergic to shellfish. We have order hot and sour sour at these 9 times. Tonight it had shrimp and my daughter had an allergic reaction. Thankfully she is ok. When I called they would not say it's never been without shrimp (not true) and refused to refund me or even send something vegetarian, such as egg drop soup. That all I asked for. Out of all happy wok locations in the Rockford area, I feel this is the best one to go to. The food is consistent, it's quick, & reasonably priced. They're all reasonably priced, but Every time I order from here, the good tastes the same. Unlike the other ones. This one isn't within delivery area to my house, so we have to make a trip to it. My most recent visit was a to go with a friend of mine. We ordered appetizers such as the wings, small fried rice, & soups. In total, it was about $20. I love their oil chili too, they threw in a couple of them for us. Everything is made fresh & you can honestly feed the whole family for cheap. Their portions are big & they serve lunch size all day. This is definitely one of our go to spots when we are craving Asian food without breaking the bank. read more

Will never return. Horrible food. I ordered a dinner sized sweet and sour chicken and an order of crab rangoon for carry out. When I got home I had brown rice, which I did not ask for and NO sweet and sour sauce. I called the store and went back to pick up sauce and white rice. They were apologetic but that is the only thing they did right. When I opened the chicken I found basic tempura chicken, which I could buy at any grocery store. I had 2, yes TWO one inch pieces of green pepper, 2 of the same size onion pieces and 2 pineapple tidbits. Really??? Picture attached. When I opened the small container of sweet and sour sauce I was shocked. The container was half full but there was sauce up the sides of the container, like some was poured out! The crab rangoon (sorry no picture. I threw it our) was very undercooked. The inside was tough and chewy and it tasted like simply cream cheese and sugar. No way no how was there ANY crab in it. I took one bite and threw them all out. I ate some of the sweet and sour chicken simply because by this time I was starving. Threw out three quarters of it. It was terrible. Save your money. Go to the store and buy frozen stuff and make it yourself because ANYTHING would be better than this place. Honestly, I do not like everything here but what I love, I LOVE!!! In general, I do not like Happy Wok restaurants. However, this one is very good. I LOVE their Crab Rangoon! They know me just by my ordering food and getting then free Crab Rangoon. Sometimes I forget and say wontons, but when they know that it is me ordering, they correct me and give me the correct one. I love the red sauce that goes along with the PuPu Platter! On Christmas Eve my fiance and I did not celebrate much with food and thought that we were not going to be enjoying any special food on Christmas Day neither as there was hardly anything open when he came to see me on Christmas Eve. I called many places and nothing was open. On Christmas Day, there was nothing much open so I called my Happy Wok. They were open! They informed me that they were the only one open. Oh, Boy! Was I happy! We ended up with the PuPu Platter and Mongolian Beef! Yummy! We really celebrated because of them! Not even the grocery store, Schnuck's, was open near us. Thank you, Happy Wok on E. Ordered 2 shrimp dishes. Very bad. Shrimp was old and mushy. The same with the veggies. It was like they had been sitting in the fridge for 4 days. Nothing was fresh, or even close to it. I don't usually leave reviews but I don't appreciate how I was treated. If I could leave a zero I would. I picked up my food today and while I was eating it I noticed a hair in the food. I call to get a refund for the food I couldn't finish and I was told that it was not possible because the cooks don't have hair and blamed it on the cheese from the Crab Rangoons burning making it look like hair. They refused to refund the money for any of the food. I just asked for a refund on that one item I was not going to eat. I will never be going back to that place. read more

Very good! Polite customer service. Very respectful young man at the register, and I even loved how there were a couple children (probably family of one of the employees) helping out a little at the front of the store. They also had a little cardboard square cut out and put in the bottom of my small paper bag to help support the weight better. The chicken & mixed vegetables was delicious. Good, semi-greasy chicken fried rice. Ample soy sauce packets. Happy Wok fulfills my need for American Chinese food. No one will mistake this for authentic Chinese, but it is still delicious. The lo mien was decent, but the General Taos chicken is more breading than chicken. read more

On 8-21-2016 I order delivery from Happy Wok on east state, First I was on hold for 5 mins. And I hung up and called back. When my food finally came to my apartment like an hour later I noticed something strange and moving on my chicken broccoli, when I picked up the broccoli it had an maggot moving on it. I took photos and threw the food away I called back to tell them what I found, I was on hold for seven mins, and then they told me I had to dig the food out of the trash even tho I had already sent them photos of the maggots. It took awhile and after they gave me the run around they gave me a refund. That was the worst food experience I have ever had. If you like Americanized Chineese food and don't care about the environment (or opt for takeout) this is the place for you. Their fried wontons/crab rangoon/general tsos chicken/fried rice is all amazing. They make it all when you order it, and they are FAST. I put these guys head and shoulders in taste above panda express or any other chineese food place in the area. And although their prices are average, their portions are really big! I would simply reccomend getting takeout/delivery, as I would give them a 1* on their atmosphere. 4 stars on the food though and friendly staff. And hey, if you're going for Chinese food, that's really whats important anyway. read more

Happy Wok on East State is the best one, by far. I've never once had badly cooked food, or a misunderstanding with my order. And the delivery man is VERY exact. Hes always at my door after exactly 60 minutes. I've probably given a fortune to Happy Wok, with as much food as I bought there. And I'm really okay with that, because I love their food. Its been years that I've eaten there, and I think I still haven't tried everything on their menu, its so big~! Sure, its not a super fancy place with chandeliers and silk tablecloths. Horrible customer service. I did their online-app order around 10:50AM, and requested that my food come at 12 PM (my lunch break). At 11:10 my food comes in, 50 minutes early. I double checked my confirmation to see if I actually put down 12 and I did. I had tipped them extra and paid a $3 delivery fee for them to bring it at 12. I called the store back and politely let them know what happened. By the time I would go on break, my food would have been cold and gross. I was not going to be able to eat my food for 50 minutes so I was asking them if there was something we could do, either have some fresh food delivered back or just to get my money back. The first call, I was transferred to 3 different people then hung up on. I called again, and was told there was no manager to help me with my issue. I asked to speak to the delivery driver and they refused. They told me that it was my fault and they would not give me a refund or bring me fresh food at the correct time. Long story short, It took 3 phone calls and a total of 35 minutes on the phone just for them to finally say they would bring me back fresh food if I returned the old food. I understand that places can make mistakes, but the way I was treated by the guy on the phone, the manager who wouldn't get on the phone but I heard speaking in the background, and the delivery driver was not right. So much attitude and disrespect. Will not be ordering from here again. The Alpine location is much better than this. read more

Placed an order for delivery (North Main location), but they got one of the items I ordered wrong (sent spicy wings instead of mild wings). The woman I talked to was very nice and said they'd replace them and send them out right away. Then she called back and said management refused to send the correct order and told her to tell me "they're not all that hot so we're not replacing them". Woman on phone was very nice and apologized repeatedly, I could tell it upset her that they refused to correct their mistake, but the people running the place (she said it was new people) obviously have no business in the service industry if that is how they treat customers. Mistakes happen but for them to blatantly refuse to correct it is unacceptable. I was very excited to see lemon chicken on their menu online so headed to Happy Wok for dinner. Unlike traditional lemon chicken, theirs was in small bites rather than a full breast. Consequently the breading overwhelmed the chicken and in some cases there was only deep fried breading. The lemon sauce was great, the rice was greasy - I'm not quite sure how they managed that - and my fellow diner's orange chicken caused gastric upset.
