Thai Hut is great! You can't find nicer staff in Rockford. They are above and beyond friendly and I wish other restaurants would take notice of that level of customer service. The restaurant is kept clean and the atmosphere is very calm and peaceful. The menu has a lot of choices, so you can find something for everyone. Our family's favorites are the Panang curry (such good peanut flavor in the sauce), Thai Hut chicken (too sweet for me unfortunately, but my wife loves it), and cashew chicken. Their egg rolls are also great because they use a thinner rice paper to fry them in, so they have a great crunch and lightness to them. read more

This place was excellent! We're a 12 person group, speech and debate team, we almost went to Panera, but this place--we were seated, ordered and had our food within 20 minutes! I've known Thai Hut since they first opened in Rockford when they were on Sandy Hollow Rd. Back then Thai food was unique and exotic as well as inexpensive. The food was delicious and if you weren't sure what to order, the person serving you would take the time to explain certain dishes. That was over 20 years ago and although I have left Rockford, I occasionally return to see my son and grandkids. Even after they moved to their new location off of Perryville Rd. the quality of the food was excellent . That was also pre Covid. I don't know what happened since then but I suspect the epidemic had a lot to do with their plunge in quality. I went there with my son for dinner and I had chicken cashew and he had a tofu dish ( he's a vegetarian) with vegetables and cashew. We ordered our dishes and it had to be less than five minutes before the server returned with them which prompted us both to look at each other. (?) Well, the meals didn't look quite right. But we started to eat, and it was terrible. My chicken dish had a sweet sauce that was watery and super sweet and barely palatable. The chicken was too chewy and the taste was awful, like it was freezer burned. The vegetables look like they had taken out of a frozen package and they tasted like it. My son's dish was pretty much the same. We were both rather shocked because of the great experience we had with Thai Hut up to this time. I never complain about my meal at a restaurant, unless it's not what I ordered, or a hot meal that comes cold, or there's some sort of foreign material in the food. But what I do is write reviews like this on Yelp so I can either warn or recommend a business to other people. I found a number of restaurants who were financially stressed during Covid turned to shortcut methods in order to save money and stay in business. I think that's what happened here but like so many other eateries, they never bothered to re-introduce the quality they had previously. After all, what kept them afloat during Covid is making them a lot of money now. Well, they won't get my business again. It's terrible to see someplace that you really enjoyed go downhill. Unfortunately, I don't think this is a one off. Meaning that I don't think it was an isolated incident and that if I go back, things would be better. I rarely run into that happenstance.. And I usually say to people; if you've been there before, try it again and see if you agree with me. But at $16 a dish. it's almost a crime to put that in front of somebody and expect them to enjoy it. Very disappointed. One star for a good service. read more

Hidden Gem Alert! We discovered this spot while visiting family, and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is spacious, sparkling clean, and has such a welcoming vibe. I ordered the Panang curry lunch combo, my husband went for the Tom Yum noodle soup, and my MIL got the green curry lunch combo. Everything was so fresh and flavorful! The side salads that came with the combos were crisp and refreshing, and the curries were packed with delicious, perfectly balanced flavors. Tonight my husband and I decided to order takeout from Thai Hut. I ordered fried rice and my husband got orange chicken. Half way through our meal I discovered a grasshopper in my rice just staring at me! Being 7 months pregnant, my morning sickness kicked in immediately! I felt so so sick and couldn't stop dry heaving for about 10min. My husband was so disgusted he couldn't finish the rest of his meal. We called Thai hut and they offered either a refund or a remake of the dish. Obviously who trusts food from a restaurant after finding a whole grasshopper in your food!? We asked for a refund and the lady on the phone, who we believe is one of the owners, said she would refund the rice but not the chicken since there was nothing wrong with it! I couldn't believe my ears. How could we trust that my husband's dish, even though there were no visible grasshoppers in it, was even safe to eat! We were refunded for my grasshopper rice but not my husband's chicken. This is a shame because if a restaurant has a random grasshopper hopping into customer's food, what does that say about the cleanliness of the kitchen? Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

Great service and tasty food over every visit of mine for over a decade. The Perryville location has authentic decor from Thailand. The heat level of the hot spices typically goes from 1-5 stars, and I enjoy mine here at 15 stars. There is plenty of food to select here which can be served at any level of heat which you might desire, from "Northern-European mild" to "twice-burning hot," all without leaving out plenty of flavor to savor regardless of the desired level of heat. Green Curries (using coconut milk) are my favorite food here, as are the vegetarian Spring Rolls, which are not using translucent rice paper like the spring rolls served elsewhere (Thai Hut uses a spongy material instead) and are served warm with a tasty peanut sauce. Portions are not huge, but also are not tiny. Food here seems to be prepared to order. They no longer hold a liquor license, sadly, but I'm guessing they didn't sell enough booze or Thai beer over the years here to make it worth it to keep. No worries, though--they have very tasty tea to enjoy, aside from the typical tea with which you might be familiar, as well as soft drinks and smoothies. I was thrilled when they opened this location years ago so that I could more-easily eat here due to the location. This location offers nifty booths alongside a wall that resemble sitting on the floor for dining groups up to four people, but are actually cut out to accommodate human legs. They also have plenty of tables which can be moved to accommodate larger dining groups as necessary. The restaurant entrance is not easy to locate, nestled in the corner of the strip mall. Parking is in a large parking lot and is free. Restrooms have been clean and stocked when I've needed to use them. Thai Hut does carryout as well. Vegans and vegetarians will find plenty of options on the menu, as will meat eaters. "Secret"(?) bonus: they are open for lunch with a lunch menu as well if you want to try the food with a lower financial commitment than the already affordable dinner menu. Although I cannot vouch for the authenticity (or not?) of the served dishes because I've never been to Thailand, I wish I could eat here more often and have yet to have a negative experience here. I strongly think that you will also have positive experiences here as well, and you will wonder why you haven't eaten here before once you give it a try. I had an amazing lunch here today. The Thai Iced Tea was the best I've ever had. The waiters were so incredibly pleasant. But the best part was the Ginger Chicken. Not only because it was fantastic but because it tasted just like the Ginger Chicken Stir Fry my father used to make. It was one of my favorite dishes and he passed away more than 25 years ago. I've been to this restaurant a couple of times in summer 2017 with my partner and his Thai colleague. It's been two years since we've set feet in Rockford and Thai Hut is still the best restaurant there. Our order: pad Thai with beef, green curry with chicken. Regular spice levels with spice tray for additional zing. The flavor profile screamed familiarity, which was the comfort we needed after a grueling day of driving. The curry was more on the thin side (as it should), perfectly complementing the freshly steamed jasmine rice that came with the dish. Spice did not overwhelm the fragrance and sweetness of the vegetables and basil that went into the making. The pad Thai sauce coated every noodle evenly - not too dry, not too wet on the tongue. Difficult to not chomp down the entire plate in one go, especially with the extremely tender beef. Portions were generous like before. Walked out with our hearts and tummies full. The owners and servers were as kind and attentive as they were 2 years ago - thank you for the consistency in your establishment. From Chicago visiting the Rockford area and I gotta say this place is now the undisputed title holder for authentic Thai food. The basil fried rice with beef was unbelievably good. Very fresh and super hot with abundance flavor from the peppers to basil flavored rice. Pad Thai is probably the best I've had in a while. The succulent sweet flavor mixed in with noodles was to much for my taste buds as you can see by left overs in the photo below. I've been lucky enough to be able to travel far and wide and no thai restaurant compares to this one. The orange chicken is incredible and you'll never find anything like it anywhere else. Now i'm living in colorado and i have tried every thai restaurant i could find as well as while I lived in chicago. The crab ragoons are awesome, thai iced coffee is incredible, the curries are all flavorful and rich in texture. To be honest this place deserves to be on TV. The service is always so sweet and friendly. It also has a great atmosphere. Its comfortable enough to feel casual but still fancy enough to come for celebrations all dressed up. The food is very good, but the customer service doesn't deserve the same amount of credit.. The man on the phone with a STRONG accent (mind you,) misunderstood our order. When we called to get the situation fixed, he refused to replace the food, was very aggressive, yelled at us, and continuously told us we were wrong. We were very kind and asked him to just please make another dish, he refused. He had a hard time speaking English himself. We ended up going back to the restaurant and he reluctantly made us a new dish and still told us "I'm the owner, and you are wrong". Yikes, not the best way to introduce yourself! In Rockford to share Thanksgiving with my daughter. Got in late so we ordered pad tai, both vegan and chicken, and the vegan spring rolls. First, they do not have table service, take out only. That is what we wanted so no problem. The owner is very friendly but couldn't realy gage their customer service. Sine we couldn't eat in. Understandable given the uncertainty of the times. Hard to know what challenges a restaurant owner is facing. The spring rolls, steamed not fried, were perfect especially the cucumber with the peanut sauce. We ordered the pad Tai dishes a medium level and they were still spicy but not too much. Just enough bite. Noodles were well cooked but not gummy which is typical in other restaurants we've been to. Sauce was very tasty and the crushed peanuts added some crunchy texture. Tofu was a little dry but not too much. I hope the owners read this review. We have been regular customers for the last 10 years, but the quality has gone way down. The food used to be a bit inconsistent, but now is just consistently bad. The sauces on the stir fries are way too sweet (ginger, basil, etc) Green curry used to be a favorite, now it has horrible flavor and is usually swimming in grease. Vegetables are overcooked to the point the eggplants and peppers are like baby food mush. The fried rice is bland. So bad anymore, plus prices have gone up SO much (even more than other places in these current times). So unhappy, we used to get from here almost weekly, but not anymore. If i could give this place 10 stars i would. I love coming here. The staff is SO nice, and accommodating. They have so many unique drinks and appetizers to try I'll never get bored. My go to is the pad Thai with tofu, or the chicken fried rice which brings so much flavor to the table. Literally. They have a spice system 1-5 with how much spice you like which is convenient for people who enjoy more or less of the spice factor. They provide plenty of seating, service is always great, i don't think I've ever waited more than 10 minutes for my food. Great take out options, and dessert options. This time around, we had house specials, a seafood dish and a fried chicken, along with some fried rice ((I like leftovers, and there was plenty left over)). I asked for spice level 4 (of 5), liking it spicy and, for me, it was absolutely perfect. For the original order, I believe I played it conservative and had one of the dishes at 3. This time, I used 4 for all, even the fried rice. I like spicy food, not "hot". These dishes were the perfect level of mouthwatering, mouth tingling delight. I better start talking about how tasty, and well prepare, the dishes were. The Seafood Misting (SE1) was filled with great bits and bobs of shrimps, scallops, I thought clams, but perhaps I mistook those. There were great pieces of calamarie in there and as much as enjoyed all these, I was blown away by the seasoning/sauce and the mushrooms and other vegetables. It was the combined taste of everything together that really made this for me. Thai fried chicken has always been high on my list of favorites, this version, Crispy Chicken (TH3), at spice level 4 was really, really good. The chicken was fresh, moist, the coating had a great zing. I had to make a conscious effort to stop eating -- I wanted to eat it all. I can go on and on about the Combo Fried Rice (R3), it's just more of the same: plentiful fresh bits of shrimp, chicken, onions, carrots and the cucumbers on top too. Thai Hut is 2 for 2 on take out. I've got to get myself in the restaurant -- if takeout is this good, I REALLY want to see what it's like on the "home field". We decided we wanted to try something different and have never eaten Thai before so I took my entire family here for dinner. It has a wonderful atmosphere, nice and relaxed done in a South East Asian flair obviously. they have Thai style booths to sit in if you want. My kids wanted to, I did not. I explained we don't know anything about Thai food and that we wanted to try something that was uniquely Thai. She made a recommendation that for an appetizer we try the Chicken Satay. It came as four pieces of check on a stick that you dip into a peanut paste. There was enough for each member of the family to get their own. Good thing there was an even amount, I think it would have ended in a fight for any remainders! It came with a side of a cucumber salad that was incredible. Again, the entire family was enjoying it, even my 17 year old son who doesn't like cucumbers loved it. My wife ordered a Thai Iced Tea to try it and shared with the family. It was really good. A little sweet for my tastes, but I did end up drinking a quarter of it too. At this point we changed wait staff and a waiter came over to assist us. When he found out it was a first time not only there, but trying Thai food, he explained a lot of the menu items and took the time to answer our questions. He even explained in more detail the star system they use for spicy food. For the main course I ordered the chicken Panaeng 4 stars. I love hot and spicy food, but each place with spicy food has a different definition of hot and the waiter said that if it wasn't spicy enough he'd bring out the spice tray for me to add some heat. It had a good flavor, but it really wasn't as hot as I was hoping so he brought out the spice tray for me and explained what each spice was. I ended up adding a lot to it because I wanted more heat. I was in the mood for melt your taste-buds hot! I couldn't eat all that was put in front of me, not because it wasn't good or because of the spiciness; but because there was just so much of it! My wife ordered the Seafood Curry, 3 stars. It was good, but it wasn't her thing. She had issues with the texture of some of the seafood bits. It's not the restaurant's fault, because I tried some and it was just the way seafood is. Personally I would have liked it spicier, but I wasn't the one eating it. My oldest son ordered the Orange chicken. Which he raved about the entire time he ate. He let me try a small piece of his, and it was excellent. It had a good flavor. According to my son it was about perfect in every way. My youngest ordered the golden chicken with a sweet and sour sauce. I think the sweet and sour sauce is the same one they use in the Cucumber Salad. Overall we were extremely impressed with the meal. My oldest stated he had a new favorite restaurant. Let me first say that I love Thai food! Thai food is complex, not only in its taste but in color and aroma. There is great emphasis on detail. This restaurant, in my opinion, has the best Thai food in the greater Rockford area. I've been here multiple times and always enjoy my visits. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Many Thailand pictures and wooden carvings throughout the restaurant, even a table in the front with travel pamphlets on Thailand. The food is incredible! Rich, creamy curry dishes are my favorite here. My favorite dish, which I ordered almost always, is Penang Chicken Curry! The coconut and peanut curry is amazing! The scale on the spice is 1-5, one being lower spice (adding more coconut milk), 5 being "spicy". This is the "American Scale". They have a secret scale, which goes to about 50. This is for customers to like extra spicy. I definitley go for extra spicy and love it! The wait staff are extremely helpful if you are having difficulty deciding on what to order. They take their time and explain everything in detail, definitely 5 stars for those guys! It's not extremely fast service, if thats what you're used to, but I felt they took their time and wanted you to take your time and actually "enjoy" your meal instead of rushing you in and out! read more
