I drive past this location numerous times as I go to work every morning. I was curious to see what they had to offer. I know they have Thai food hence the name Thai Hut. I have been to the other location on Perryville and that's a bigger location so I thought I would give the smaller location a try. Growing up as a Laotian American, the food is very similar growing up so I kind of compare every type of Southeast Asian cooking to my moms and other family members. I happen to order the crab rangoon and the Pad See Iew, which is stir fried thick long noodles in a soy sauce. I have to say the crab rangoons aren't that bad, I would order them again and the noodles.Next time I would try something I haven't had before. Overall, its a small location but it has good traditional Thai food which many people won't be able try unless you have friends that make you try it or you grew up with it. I would say give it a try and explore your taste buds. I would come back again and go outside my comfort zone. read more

I almost drove right by even with gps on. Not much Thai food where I am from but some Navy wives have cooked for us so thought I'd try it. It was a cold day so I wanted some hot soup. I've also had red curry so thought I'd try theirs. I didn't want pad thai bc seems like the thing everone orders. I also ordered crab rangoon bc who doesn't love that? There's no dine in due to covid so i wait in the car. My order was $25. It's just for me but I ordered a ton and dinner tomorrow is done. Wow! Tom Yum Gai is a hot and sour soup you've never had like this. It was amazing. The spices were great, just the right blend of acid and savory and cilantro....so good. I had to blow my nose twice. (Sorry) Perfect on a cold day. I'll be back for that. I'm kind of a whimp for spice but this was perfect. The red curry was really good too. Flavors were amazing. I'm kind of a Chinese foodaholic so missed the thicker consistency you normally get with a gravy but once you put some rice in the curry you forget it's not thickened. I was brought to this restaurant with some colleagues from work while on travel. I wasn't impressed with the exterior or the interior of the location. The service was friendly and the food came out fast. I ordered the Robin Hood Ribs prepared medium spicy with fried rice and did not have any expectations. I was surprised that when they were dropped off on the table the portion was larger than expected. It wasn't a huge portion but bigger than I thought it would be. The ribs were actually pretty good but there were not spicy at all so I dumped some red chili flakes on them to wake them up. It turns out the spice was in the rice so when I started eating the rice after I finished the ribs, the red chili flakes plus the spice in the rice became too much so I pushed my plate away. I still can't get over the disgusting soy-sauced-pad-thai that I had here, so I can't rate the place any higher. However, this time I ordered the Robin Hood Ribs, which came with fried rice, which is not just any fried rice - it's oh-so-deliciously lightly buttery & garlicy, without crossing that line into being greasy and guilt-inducing. The ribs were also delicious, and came right off the bones. The Thai Crying Tiger was also good. The menu advertised it as thin-sliced beef, but eh, after craving galbi (Korean thin-sliced beef) all morning, this didn't cut it as nowhere near thin enough. read more

Wonderful Thai food and generous portions. The staff is very friendly. It's a nice, clean basic atmosphere. Lunch menu ends at 2 pm and is a bit less expensive than dinner menu. Dinner averages $11-13 per entree which is served in trendy boat shaped dishes. The Thai Hut Special with beef was flavorful, the Rama Noodles with chicken had a delicious peanut sauce but was just a tad dry and the cashew chicken was delicious. We also got the mushroom soup and it was yummy. The four star heat was fine and not too hot, the cashew chicken we ordered 5 start hot and was also not too hot at all. This is one of our regular restaurants. Really convenient location right off the highway. Every time I order take out they say it will be ready in 15 minutes, which is incredibly fast considering the quality. I've had a few items that have been disappointing (the red curry comes to mind) but our go-to dishes are the Crab Rangoon, Sweet/Sour Chicken and Green Curry with Pork. The SS chicken is not what like the Chinese takeout version - it is fried with some tasty spices and the sweet and sour contains a nice variety of vegetables so you can serve it a little more traditionally over rice. The green curry is absolutely my favorite curry ever. Fresh, piquant, and as spicy as you want it, loaded with awesome veggies like bamboo, eggplant and mushroom. They give you enough for two meals when you with enough rice but only give you a little container of rice. We usually start up a batch of rice in our cooker before I make the order so we have plenty. I've also tried the Tom Kha Gai soup which was weird and really good, though my wife thinks it smells bad. I've also heard very good things about the Robin Hood Ribs. The price is a bit higher than your average place of this type but the quality is consistently good and you can order it as spicy as you like. If you like curry, get it green - The only other place in Rockford that even competes is Sisters Thai. read more

This leans towards a 3.5 star review with really great service. They have these nice booths, but in order to sit in them, you have to take off your shoes. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs and kept on coming back to check up on us. Their appetizer platter included a shrimp eggroll, vegetarian spring roll, crab rangoon, gyoza, and a crab patty. Overall, not bad - just a fried appetizer platter. We ordered a couple dishes and it was a neat factor that they have different levels of spice for each dish. My friend enjoyed his duck curry while the husband had their chicken special which was decent. Nothing too spectacular but decent Thai food (we may be a bit spoiled with some of the Thai places in Chicago). Their desserts are huge and I would definitely recommend for you to share - their sticky rice with mango included a whole mango. And their fried banana included four large pieces of fried banana with a large scoop of ice cream. Overall, a satisfying meal but a bit on the pricey side. With the tea & iced coffee, appetizer platter, 3 dinner entrees, and dessert, the bill ran us about $90. read more

Traveling through Rockford I stumbled onto this place. I wasn't expecting much but I was hungry and all your basic fast food places wasn't appealing to me. I ordered the Green Curry with chicken a safe choice. I ordered it the spiciest you can because I have found in Caucasian America they dilute the spiciness. They didn't dilute here. It had a spiciness that was pleasant to the palette but would make your forehead develop beads of sweat. The whole dish was marvelous. So marvelous I decided to order another entree. I tried to order the Thai Crying Tiger but it was not on the menu. The server informed me that they offer that at the other location and not this one. She then quickly went to the kitchen and asked if they could make it. She came back and said they can. Awesome. The dish was decent but the effort made it taste a little better. read more

I have to agree with the previous poster...what is up with the soy sauce in the pad Thai? It's not supposed to be made like that. What is supposed to be a fresh, vibrant taste that just zings in your mouth...turns into a salty mush. Like other Thai restaurants in the Rockford area, it's also lacking in fresh ingredients. I just wasn't that impressed with it. Plus, it's on the expensive side for barely adequate taste. read more

A Rockford gem and favorite restaurant! This was my very first introduction to Thai food. I've tried many other places since, but haven't had any better. I prefer the original location on Sandy Hollow (an old Long John Silvers) to the fancier one off Perryville. Not sure why, it just feels homier. read more

The service here is fast and friendly. I have to agree with Jeanne, the pad thai was not too tasty. My husband and I are both fans of thai curry, theirs is not bad. The Basil Rice was on point and actually was Thai hot as I requested. With chopped up bits of those little Thai chilies that pack oh so much heat. I haven't tried other items, but I have a feeling that The Husband and I will return to get our Thai fix, unless we can find something closer and better. read more

Very tasty food and fast service! They now have a second location in Rockford on South Perryville Road which has a better-conditioned parking lot and loads of wood decorations brought stateside from Thailand. Although a bit pricey for what one gets, the food is _very_ tasty and filling at both locations. The new location is hidden in a strip mall near David's Bridal, Chipotle, Cold Stone, and other chain places and is easy to miss, difficult to locate, but hard to forget. This location (of the review) is in an old/converted Long John Silver's building not far off of Sandy Hollow Road and has a pothole-filled parking lot shared with a K-Mart and a Denny's; that said, this location on Sandy Hollow is easily accessible for OTR truckers passing through the area by exiting onto the 11th Street North Exit of US-20 (Bypass)/IL-251, and the parking lot frequently has semis in it, but I rarely see the drivers of said trucks eating here (they must like the greasy food of Denny's better? Their loss...). Knowing how bad food can be at places accessible for truck drivers, I am surprised that more drivers do not eat here, for what it's worth... This location is the one that gave this local "chain" their great reputation. Both Thai Hut locations are very clean and have delicious food, plus Thai beers. Spiciness is on a 5 point scale so you may make the food as native as you would like (or as wimpy as you like if you do not like it prepared natively styled for the hot dishes). I really like the curries and the vegetarian entrees they serve. Some of the tastiest Thai food in Rockford is served at Thai Hut; instead of eating the usual bland "Americanized Chinese" food again, slip into Thai Hut for Asian food with flavor!! read more

Thai Hut is an unassuming yet fantastic spot in Rockford. Situated in the middle of a shopping center's parking lot, Thai Hut comes to the rescue for diners in the Rockford Airport area. The food is served piping hot, is always fresh, and never leaves you to question the integrity of the food. The quick and efficient service makes this a great spot for business lunch or a quick, hot bite. The level of heat can vary quite a bit, but I suggest you go for Thai Hot (5 Stars) if you are at all a fan of hot foods. read more

We were driving home to Chicagoland from a wedding in Iowa and I didn't want another burger. I saw good reviews for this place and after eating the medium spicy beef pad Thai, I agree! The restaurant is nothing fancy, but the service is quick and the food is delicious. Highly recommend shrimp rolls, pad Thai, and the fresh lime juice. Orange chicken and egg rolls were also tasty. I have been to many, many Thai restaurants all over the world including many in Thailand and this is perhaps the second best (but most authentic outside Thailand) I've had. I came here a few times with friends and family. When I came here once after my cousins graduation, we ordered a bunch of dishes and just shared them all. But every single dish I tasted, all had the same flavor. These were 4 or 5 different dishes. Their red curry is incredibly sweet, It gave me a headache. I had the green curry with chicken and an order of crab rangoons. The curry was pretty good. Rangoon had actual meat, imitation or not. Handmade! The best part was the level of spiciness. I ordered a 3 on scale of 5. I like heat but like it to be flavorful. This was well done. Not sure how the place stays open as I've not seen anyone in there when Ive gotten takeout. The service is always great. They bring me a whole pitcher of water after they see my drinking habits. I'd avoid the spring rolls and have better ones for half the price at Pho Square. Family run and the dedication to the freshest vegetables, attention to achieving purrfectly fried foods with the crispest exteriors and authenticity apparent throughout. The Thai Hut egg rolls, baby egg rolls and shrimp pot stickers--with amazing dipping sauce--are worth dining in for the outstanding tactile wrappers fresh from the frying oil. When I gotta get my Thai food fix, this is where I go. Sure it's a pretty sketchy looking place, but the food is excellent. Most of the time I get carry out. It's always ready in like 10-15 min. Some of my favorite dishes are the Penang curry and pad Thai. Every time I go, I always have to get and bowl of tom yum...so good. The portions are large for the money so I always have a nice lunch the next day. If you're trying to get in for a quick lunch, that may not always work. It's a popular spot, especially on Friday so expect to take a longish lunch. Definitely worthy trying if you're looking for a good Asian meal. read more

I've been here a few times and tried a variety of their dishes. The service is great our waitress was so friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I like the drunken noodle dish the best. It has plenty of flavour. I had the red curry and it was ok. You have to like coconut to enjoy it. The Pad Thai was a good classic Thai dish. The crab rangoons were great and have a chunk of crab in them making them pretty unique compared to the average take out rangoons. I did not like the Thai hut roll they are too plain. The lovely chicken was not too lovely I think it was the bbq sauce that threw it off. It's more a teriyaki dish. Finally....the fried banana was a delish dessert. read more

My favorite place for Thai food! The nice thing is that you can choose how spicy you want your food and if it is not enough there is a carousel of spices and peppers they will bring to the table for you. The lunch deal is great with a salad or soup. I prefer the salad and do not like the soup much, but others really do. I recommend the Thai hut chicken, chicken fried rice, combo fried rice, or pineapple fried rice. Staff is very nice. read more

I had the crab Rangoon (highly recommend) and the Chicken Drunken noodles (medium spice) as well as the Orange Chicken and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The drunken noodles were awesome! They're kind of fajita like but seriously delicious. A bit more expensive than other Asian restaurants but I really liked it. I've never written a review but felt this place deserved one. Don't let appearances fool you! The outside of this restaurant is uninspiring, but the food...oh, the food was fantastic! I am well traveled and eat Thai food everywhere, as it's my favorite. When my parents picked me up from the Rockford airport and brought me to Thai Hut, I was dubious, at best. But, you-go-Rockford!...this Thai place surpassed almost every Thai place I'd eaten, save for a couple. As many reviews have mentioned, the boats in which the food was served were a nice, surprising touch. And the service was supremely attentive without any intrusion...my water was never empty. But, back to the food. I ordered the Rama (chicken) and the Panang (also chicken). Both were delicious, with intricate yet delicately balanced flavor profiles. My eyes actually rolled to the back of my head! Loved it, loved it! From now on, when I visit my parents near Beloit, WI, I will make the trip to Rockford, IL to eat at Thai Hut! Please Illinois residents, keep this place in business until I can return!! read more
