But my regular go to is pad Thai with either chicken(no extra charge) or beef (extra charge) Along with a Thai iced tea. You can choose your spice level. Lunch specials are a good portion and includes an appetizer. Can't go wrong with the crab rangoon or spring rolls. I always bounce back between the two. Spacious clean area, friendly attentive staff and you'll be able to hear the people you are talking to. So far I've never had to wait more than a minute to be seated, order taken within a few minutes after receiving menues and food comes out at a timely manner. Stop by and explore a wide variety of dishes from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam!

The papaya salad was very tasty, and we were able to choose between Thai style and Lao style which was nice to have the option. We chose Lao style, which was less sweet, and we all really enjoyed it. The shrimp tom kha soup was extremely flavorful and good, but a little too salty, so it was hard to finish the whole thing. The rest of the dishes we shared (green curry and pad see ew) were both cooked well and we have no complaints. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a Thai spot in the area.

The two daughters took over the business from their parents who opened Vientiane in 2001. It's wonderful to see family owned businesses stay in the family! We even learned more about Laos culture with trivia :) We were offered wine, Lao beer, Thai tea, or iced coffee. I had a white wine and Thai tea. It was my first time to try Thai Tea and I loved it! It's sweet, but delicious. I enjoyed everything I tried! From the apps, I loved their spring roll with sweet chili sauce! Their tofu pad tai was to die for. I would order that for dinner any day! I chose chicken for my Pho and the flavor overall was delicious. For dessert, we got mango sticky rice which was so good! Overall, Vientiane is a great authentic local Laotian restaurant! I have been to the other location on Perryville and that's a bigger location so I thought I would give the smaller location a try. Growing up as a Laotian American, the food is very similar growing up so I kind of compare every type of Southeast Asian cooking to my moms and other family members. I happen to order the crab rangoon and the Pad See Iew, which is stir fried thick long noodles in a soy sauce. I have to say the crab rangoons aren't that bad, I would order them again and the noodles.Next time I would try something I haven't had before. Overall, its a small location but it has good traditional Thai food which many people won't be able try unless you have friends that make you try it or you grew up with it. I would say give it a try and explore your taste buds. I would come back again and go outside my comfort zone.

They can get quite busy and the restaurant is not that big. They do have a full bar if you do have to wait.

I went with a small group, and although the place was packed the wood ceilings and dim lights help to foster an intimate and cozy aesthetic! For start we ordered two delicious appetizers (see photos below) and drinks! The drink menu was especially interesting offering several cocktails that I've never seen before! My cocktail, for example, included popping boba! Our entrees were flavorful! The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, giving recommendations and insights when asked. Overall this is a great addition to Madison, and I can't wait to go back!
