Very disappointed by how I was treated by the owner's wife after ordering Pad See Ew. I called about the food being overly salty, I was met with a rude and dismissive response instead of help. I was told by wife " she knew I was going to complain so she tasted it herself ," I was told not to eat the food, and wife hung up. The interaction felt disrespectful and unprofessional, it almost seemed like extra salt was added on purpose. I simply wanted to address a concern politely. Got this order off door dash. Waited the entire time and after 50 min the restaurant called and said the driver never came. We went to pick up the food because it was already paid for, it was late at night and I was hangry. Someone in the store explained that my name may have been the reason my order was canceled, so that was strange and off putting. We asked the restaurant if our food would still be fresh, they assured us it was. Obviously after sitting so long, none of the fried things were crispy. The flavor wasn't there. I got the green papaya salad; definitely not my top I've had. I got soup and was expecting a coconut base but it was not creamy at all (maybe my fault because it's northern Thai cuisine) but it was so spicy it was hard to eat. And I love spicy! The pad see yew noodles were very broken, like someone stirred them too much. Great tasting food! The portions are great. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the food they serve. There are 3 spice levels mild, medium and hot. Medium was spicy for me but it was manageable. The thai iced tea was overly sweet and had a weird taste to it, the pad see ewe noodles weren't wide, and just not my favorite, and the wings did not have much flavor to them. I did ask about having a side of sticky rice but i'm assuming it's the same from the mango sticky rice and not the usual khao niew i'm used to. I paid $28 for all of this and sadly threw it away. We absolutely love this place. New to the area, tried it on a whim and have been back at least 6 times after. It's a husband/wife run business, and she knows what she is doing in that kitchen! What an amazing experience. I'm married to a Lao man and I'm a Thai/Lao food lover and we were lucky enough to find a Lao restaurant in Chicago. It was dead inside and I don't know why. This place does need a makeover but the food is amazing. Service was also great. We started with some apps, crab Rangoon, Beef Larb, beef jerky and beef jerky. We stuck to appetizers and It was so delicious. The good things about this place is that you can get your food mild, spicy and very spicy. What an amazing way for costumers to pick their spicy level. You may have a bit of a what on the food but just understand it's just him and his wife running the place. And for us it was better because we had more time to catch up. There's absolutely nothing spectacular about this strip mall in Burbank near Ford City Mall. However, when a small family-owned restaurant like "Spicy Thai Lao" surfaced on the Yelp radar with 4.5 stars, I couldn't help but remained curious why many people loved this place. "We are Thai, not Chinese," which was the first thing hubby and I noticed when we walked in. Haha, I totally felt for that because I was always mistaken as "Thai," not "Taiwanese," as I was born in Taiwan. With that being said, Thai food and anything about Thailand were quite foreign to me. The Caucasian gentleman, a.k.a., the owner, was really cool and showed great hospitality. There was a small portion of menu listed under "Northern Thailand/Lao specialities." Hubby ordered the "beef pad tamin." It appeared to be a beef/carrots/bamboos/green beans type of stir fry. Whatever the spices they used, there was some "zest" to it and had an amazing flavor! My "Kaeng Kua pineapple" had just right amount of kick to it (I chose the medium spice level). The portions were very generous. Many of their regulars were the neighborhood parents who sent their children to the Tae Kwom Do class next door. We engaged fun and intellectual conversations with the owner and another patron. The topics ranged from interracial marriages, religions, family values, and ethnic food. The owner even treated us a sample of their homemade coconut ice cream. They updated their table cloth, which is something I had suggested and the place looked a lot more inviting and cleaner. Even the bathroom was nicer. The changes really made the restaurant look a lot better. I had the spicy green chicken curry and it taste different than the one I ordered last time so I'm thinking maybe they changed chefs? So authentic and fresh - this is a must if you have a desire to taste true Thai that has not been domesticated. Decided to try a new place tonight, and we were not at all disappointed.. tried both the Sesame Chicken (with brown rice) and the Orange Chicken (with noodles), they were both absolutely delicious as they were, added a bit of the red (Thai) sauce - kicked it up a few notches without destroying the flavor. Added on the chicken wontons (fried) also amazing ... George's recommendations on food, as well as his apologies for the wait (it is well worth it) has added to my list of reasons to come back ... We stopped by here for lunch on a weekday afternoon. The place was fairly clean and nicely decorated. It was also empty, so service was quick. It seemed to be a family owned restaurant and our waitress was very friendly and stopped by often to check on us and refill our water glasses. We received our food within 10-15 minutes of ordering. This restaurant serves halal chicken. I ordered the Spicy Green Curry w/ chicken which I ordered with white rice. The curry was spicy and flavorful with plenty of chicken pieces instead of being overloaded with vegetables. The chicken pieces also didn't contain any bones. The portions were very filling, although my entire meal amounted to less than $10. Unlike most Asian restaurants, this place did not skimp on the rice!
